I just thought up of a list of new planets I think could be used.

Do you think adding planets is as easy as typing in their names? Not to be rude, but seriously...That's a long list.

well you seem never to run out of stuff to add but what are you doing to get it in? I highly doubt anyone here has the time to model and map and such everything you have listed but if you DL/Buy the software and use some turtorials you could start work yourself. Sorry if i seem unhelpful but I think you should start modding yourself.

Not everyone can make great art with that tool right away like you did.

 

It takes practice. note that until recently, all my models were comprised of blocks stuck together, resulting in unneccesary polys.

I just used the same principles as i did in photshop and word draw. Not until just recently did end up with only a couple objects instead of the average 40 objects. :P

It's Ok, I appreciate the advice.  To you, it may sound unhelpful, but to me it is just one of the many pointers I need.  Thank you all.  Also, I have a quick question.  Does anyone know if they could make the tripods from the new War of the World's movie for the Zann Consortium?  That would be cool. that was a good movie.  ;D

hhhmm well to make the tri-pods you would first need to create a model of it, give it "bones" and a mesh and such. Next you would have to animate its legs. Lastly you would need to skin it. The process is more complicated and i prolly left out some things. Hmm i really should start skinning things. Something i feel is in my realm of comprehension. lol

Ewww to Wing's 3D. Blender is so much more user friendly. And good for starters who can't afford Max...Since most can't.

 

Both are trash. Take it from a 3DS Max user. Nothing can compare except Maya.

Not really. It's 3DS Max (I think 6 or something, before Gmax got pulled) stripped down of all the best features. No rendering capability, and no export options outside of .GMAX (unless you're using some illegal third-party plugins :P) really eliminate any usefulness except as a free practice program.

They exported to stuff..

they also made imporers for those same formats for max..

Exporting abilities...

 

Yeah you are right though.. its quite a messy route to take.. normal smoothing gets all messed up.. textures may change names..scale.. exporter/importer accuracy...

 

Max just makes things soo much easier..

Dude, didn't you read "almost everything in the game"?!

 

Or do you want a detailed information, like:

- Factions stuff => Factions.xml and Expansion_Factions.xml

- Land vehicles => GroundVehicles.xml

- Infantry => GroundInfantry.xml

- Spaceships => SpaceUnitsCorvettes.xml, SpaceUnitsFrigates.xml, SpaceUnitsCapital.xml, SpaceUnitsFighters, Squadrons.xml...

- Starbases => StarBases.xml and StarBases_Underworld.xml

???

 

Also, the DAT Editor and the String Editor are almost the same thing... ;)

Basically HK-47, I would like to know how to add/ modify units, add/modify planets and modify almost everything else.

 

you can do all of that with notepad/wordpad and a string editor, but to add new art content (models, textures, icons, etc...) you'll need a bunch of other software. Luckily you can make new maps for your new planets with the map editor.

I recommend you to start with space stuff. Like, try to make another version of some unit already in-game, like the Acclamator, since it's code is 'basic' and it has just a few hardpoints, all different to each other. Then, I suggest to take a look at the Projectiles.xml to see how they work... Then, after you get how the space thing works, move to land stuff...

There are many tutorials around the EaW community... You can find many of them here at PFF.  ;)

Thanks HK-47.  Also, I edited some units with Notepad/Wordpad, and the game still worked.  It's that the changes I made didn't do anything.  Help?

Don't be vauge with us now.  ;) What did you change? Post the code. BUT put it in the code tags. The icon for it looks like this #. Its above the crying face in the Post Reply area.
