Gonna lock it now, though if you ask me nicely I might move it to outside interests to let you see where the rpg goes.

 

In answer to the original question. The AI as the Empire will control the DS in the battle, which guaruntees that one capital ship will be taken out. I can't remember whether it was your fighters or his that will have taken out the DS. However, as the Rebels you can blow up planets with your DS, just make sure you never go to a planet that has even 1 fighter left!

 

Also worthy of note. Under no circumstances whatsoever will the AI let you have more than 1 DS in a system. Unless your playing Galactic Battlegrounds with the Clone Wars expansion and use the cheat "that's no moon" several times, though you can only do it a few times before you have to move the screen a little. But it does mean you can have a fleet of 50 DS1's floating around. There are also cheats to let you do the same with an ISD and a Blockade Runner. PM me if you want them, or use Google.
