A lot of people have mentioned scary movies and scary villians/monsters and such, but ... the main point is horror movie icon.

 

Icon: An important and enduring symbol

 

So, for an old fart like me, a horror movie icon would be someone like Bela Lugosi's Dracula or Boris Karloff's Frankenstein. As soon as you see them (monster or actor), it justs pops into your mind ... horror movie. Now that's an icon

This bit from the Exorcist is memorable, not that it's an icon or anything, but just because it's in the film for less than a second, and completely throws you. I guess what Tex is on about is more or less right right in my mind how I rate horror, not on Freddies etc, but the quality of the horror.

 

Having said that, I still sometimes watch the Exorcist if I can't sleep..

I don't know why but I never found The Exorcist to be that scary. Disturbing though, that scene with the chick and the cross? Yikes...

 

I think the best(/worst?) horror movie icon is the clown as represented in IT. I mean I cannot go to a circus in case a clown came after me with a balloon saying/screaming "don't you wan' it?"

Clowns are perticularly disturbing to some. There is actually an official phobia of clowns know as Coulrophobia I have only seen the beginning of the exorcist but it seemed rather spooky.

 

I found this to be creepy even though it didn't really scare me.

Yeah but the Clown got some of his own medicine in the film "Scary Movie 2", when the Character Ray kind of...erm...you know if you've seen the film.

The cerebral kind? In that case I recomend Kafka. He is a freaky dude.

 

If the bloody, drippy type, Stephen King.

 

A horror icon for me would have to be Frankenstien's monster. Few other monster are portrayed as so human and misguided as he/it was. (At least in the book he was)

I resent the fact that I'm the benchmark for spamming. Not because I find it in any way degrading, but because Mad is the rightful owner of the "Most PPD" award, followed by Mitth, followed by me. I have never beat their ridiculous records for it.
