The way I see it, the 2D plane(especially in the asteroid maps) is more to create better flow to a battle than anything. In HW2 you could fly around an asteroid field for quite awhile looking for the enemy in the 3D plane. The 2D plane creates a more predictable playing field, creating choke points and strategic approaches. This can make battle predictable and repetitive, but a good commander will bypass this. Sneaking his bombers through the asteroids and hitting the flank of the enemies ambush, or finding a thin spot in the field where he can get his larger ships through with minimal damage. in conclusion, while a 3D playing field is more realistic, it isn't feasible for a large scale tactical management game. The reason it may work in real life is that all the commanders do is observe, the actual "pieces" move themselves. It becomes far too chaotic when the commander must observe, plan, and coordinate in real-time on a full 3D battlefield.

I vote for a one week delay from the release of the game to give people a chance to get the game, and learn what they need to survive.

Re: Official Topic - Warlord Total Expansion

I had this problem on Corellia as well, i simply retreated, and sent in a probe droid, couldn't see any units, so I landed my troops again and won the planet without conflict. Apparently Zaarin isn't telling the game that all his men are dead, so the battle doesn't end. -
Vader's private fortress is a planet known as Vjun. Several years after the battle of Endor Luke went there and used the force to rebuild Vader's castle, which had an ingenious camoflage system. Once inside he recieved a vision of Vader through the Force. This has been your random fact for the day, have a nice day.

Re: Engines destroyed, movement still?
Mistrider replied to Jmaster3265's topic in EAW General Discussion
Jmaster: You may have learned about it in Biology, but it is a theory of Physics. Raydude: Manuevering Jets. Even todays space craft use these to make course corrections, rotation, full turns, and braking. -
well, NBEF would be the something-something-Escort Frigat. CC is the Carrack-Class Cruiser

Chr0n1x, will your next release utilise the de-asteroided maps that were posted on these forums?

they move slower, what it is is their momentum(no friction in space to stop them) and they use manueverying just to turn. -
the planet from KotOR2 isn't Taris. Taris was the first world in KotOR1, which the Sith bombarded. I can't remember the name of the KotOR 2 planet, but it was Carth's homeworld.

SSD, Without Lights - Legacy of War
Mistrider replied to Juggernaut1985's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
I'm going to have to disagree with that, Wasn't Leia using an ISD(Rebel Dream I think was the name) as her flagship for awhile during the books that involved the SSD Iron Fist(I can't remember the warlord's name) Also, the rebels used an Interdictor Cruiser that had defected(Corusca something) in their attack on Coruscant. -

hehehe, I want a Rebel Lusankya version. They painted the entire thing white and than painted two huge Rebel Insignia on the top and bottom in Red. Iceheart commented something like, "How do they expect to hide that in space now?" -
Ok, now, I know that the stations above lvl 1 don't have models ingame, BUT when you zoom in on a planet with an advanced space station, you see a textured model of the space station. Would it be possible for someone to find this "mini-model" and scale it up to be used in the actual tactical battles?

they are very old, powerful, and influential. Think 1920's Chicago Mafia and you get the basic jist of Black Sun. The leader of Black Sun, Prince Xizor was the one who master minded the trap set for the Rebels at Endor. He told his entire plan to the Emperor, and the Emperor put it into action. Xizor did this because he wanted to take Darth Vader's place at the emperor's side, Huge rivalry between the two. Taken from Wikipedia: The line about Xizor trying to kill Luke goes so far in SotE that in several books it is alluded to that Xizor tips off the Imperial stormtroopers to the location of the Lars Homestead. In one book Boba Fett(I think it was Boba...) find an actual recording of the killing of Owen and Beru Lars and in the distance of the recording he sees a Falleen heat signature.

you must be tech 4 with a (I believe) level 4 station to build ISDs. You can currently build them anywhere, Chr0n1x will be putting in the planet requirements in 1.3 along with adding Mon Calamari.
-
the Empire mod does in fact have it, you must be tech 4 I believe, with a lvl 3 or 4 space station.

speaking of the ship tactics used in Star Wars, I'd like to see them add an Ackbar Slash special ability. It basically sends a capital ship or starfighter squadron directly between two opposing enemy capital ships, firing the entire time. The best part of this is that any missed shots by the enemy ships hit the OTHER enemy ship. For other awesome Star Wars tactics: http://boards.theforce.net/Literature/b10003/15031990/

The Rebels still have an invisible ground unit, I believe it may be the snowspeeder or possibly one of their heroes(Obi-Wan perhaps)

Experiments and prototypes
Mistrider replied to Ghostly_Substance's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
I don't know, what would be more valuable to them, maintaining their old broken down crap, or stealing a prime piece of state-of-the-art military equipment, than turning it on the people that made it? -

I'd like Chewie to keep the vehicles he steals after the battle if they aren't destroyed. I mean, come on, what do you think he's gonna do with that AT-AT? Make a bonfire? -
They aren't regular pirates. The default pirate faction in the game is Black Sun. if anyone needs explanation of who they are, toss me a PM or ask here.

Re: Bryant's Mod: 2.0 Featuring Rebel AI
Mistrider replied to Bryant_pff's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
no, vergesso is the default map for the asteroid location in the demo campaign, the tutorial space map is different, but I don't know what it is. -
just to illustrate how easy it is to kill Y-Wings with-out Tartans, I will tell you an experience I had while defending Coruscant with the Empire Mod for the demo. OK, So the rebels come knocking, space battle loads I immediately group all my units, and I send them towards the rebel spawn point(stupid me, I have no Tartans). I get about halfway to the central asteroid cluster with my ISDs when a group of 8 squadrons of Y-Wings comes into view flying in a V formation. I immediately think, "Oh Shit" than I remember that I have Boba Fett with me. I send him in, and as he passes the front sqaudron, I lay down a seismic charge and it killed every single Y-Wing in that V formation. I than proceeded to 3 shot Home One with my Hyper Velocity Cannon =)
