The station is used for everything because you only have one station in space battles. (Except your mining asteroids and little defence satellites)

This thread is not about Supreme Commander! If you want to talk about the game then do it in a special thread. Please get back to the thread topic. Anything not related to the topic will be deleted.

This week I installed X-Wing Alliance again and while playing I noticed that you can play it online. Something I totaly forgot over the years. Perhaps anybody in here wants to fly around a bit? We could use the given missions or create our own... If anybody is interessted simply drop a line

Thanks Delphi. I hope this post has helped to calm down some of our blood-hounds We all want this game to be a big success so it is best to wait and see what we will get in the demo and final game. And then start helping to remove the last small "issues". Until then: keep calm, lean back and let's keep it real There has been a lot of "böses Blut" (as we say in German. Sorry I simply don't know the English term ) the last days. So lets forget about it and start again. At least, try!

Did I say that? I don't think so. Right. I prefer a RTS game which is well balanced but perhaps has to face some "setbacks" refering to the SW fluff. You know, I want to play this game in multiplayer. I want to play it in leagues and want to compete with others. If Petro leaves out units or has to invent some to give it a good balance I am pleased with this decission. Maybe others don't but I accept this. In return they should accept Petros decission.

Strong objection to arbitrary post deletion censorship here.

There are still two threads open in which this "current quarrel" can be discussed. It was just getting annoying that every day two (or more) new threads were created which dealt with the same topic. You are still free to discuss those things but please on a normal level. Many of those threads were nothing more then flame topics and have therefore been deleted. We support an open exchange of thoughts but we do not support flames which are not based on any rational argument. This is not about censorship but about keeping this forum "clean" and the discussion on a friendly and objective level. -
The Broadside and Gunship have torpedos. Other units don't. Of course this is not very close to the SW fluff but torpedos are very, very powerfull in EaW (from what I saw at the Games Convention). So this weapons are restricted to smaller, fragile units which have to be handled with care. I like the idea behind this.
-
Exactly. The Boradside is a very fragile ship. All other "replacements" mentioned for this ship can take a lot more damage then the Broadside can. Torpedos/Missiles are very powerfull in EaW (referring to what I saw at the Games Convention) and a Missile Cruiser with good armour could surely be called "uber". And if they would take an existing unit but give it less hitpoints? Guess what, people would complain that it has to little hitpoints for being this and that unit. I think thats why they made up the Broadside.

Venator is out... Officially

What information do you have to judge the game this way? Ok. Perhaps I have... exaggerated a bit. But I am simply pissed off seeing people saying bad things about the game for the last months. I simply recall threads were people complained that the SDs do not seem to have the right amount of turbolaser batteries. I'm sorry but many people wanted this game to be a second Rebellion. But we all knew that it is not. Many people say that the are not juding the game, but be honest, they are. You are pissed of that the game does not have the content you hoped it will have. Thats okay. But just wait for the game. You will have the demo this month and then we can begin to judge. Right now we can only say that we do not like the decision but we should stop here. There is no need to blame anybody for something we have no proof that they did it. Just keep calm... I also don't like that B-Wings and TIE-Is arent in but perhaps I do not miss them in the final game. Who knows? I don't. We do not even know if this were Lucas Arts decisions. I'm quiet sure that many were decisions made by Petroglyph. Why should LA force Petro to take content out of the game? They simply tell Petro what they can use of their ideas (those which do not offense the license) and Petro uses what they want to have in. So if you want to know why this and that unit is not in you should simply ask Petro, not LA. /IMHO -
The information has proven as a mistake. The official date ist the 16th of February.

These pages quote an Activision Press Release. I could not find or get it somewhere. I keep on trying but I can't promiss anything...

Venator is out... Officially
Little.B replied to Grand Admiral Thrawn 889's topic in EAW General Discussion
Yes... I can imagine the developer meeting: A: "Hey. Lets create a game, whichs development process will cost thousands of dollars but which in the end only attracts a small amount of people!" B: "...." Right! It is for everybody! This game is also made for people that love to play RTS games and not only for those that now the exact numer of the SSD turbolasers, the length of C3-POs right arm and the color of Lukes underwear when fighting Vader in episode 5... All succesfull RTS out there could also have more units. But why havent they all more then 100 units? Because there is no need for it. If you want to create a game that is fun to play and not to complex (so that it is easy to learn) you have to take away content. Every game starts with more content and gets rid off a lot of content in the development process. If they would have never told about the Venetor you wouldn't miss it. I promiss. The only thing you are pissed off is that it was in before and has been taken out. ? Did they change Imperials to Orcs? Are X-Wings now Galactica Vipers? I don't get the point on "changing everything". They left out a unit. Indeed, that nearly everything. There are surely more then 50 favorite units which did not make it into the game... I mean: I dont like the Venator that much, so I don't miss it. Does it make me a bad person? Am I not a valid Star Wars fan? Does leaving out the Venator really ruin the game? What info do you have to be able to judge this? EDIT All I want to say: They wont bring the Venator back in just because of a vote. Even if I think they simply run out of time. Why don't you just sit back and wait for the release. When you have bought the game and don't like it you have all the right to complain. But right know we don't know anything. So I think, to discuss a matter of gameplay we actually should have had played the final game. Perhaps the Venator is in, perhaps the Interceptor is. This would not be the first case of false information over the last months... -
At first we thought it was a Liberator. But as we see on the Tartan Cruiser Petro used existing designs as basis for the new ships. I think it's good this way because so they just fit into the Star Wars style.
-
You don't get it do you... I did not say that anybody should use these models directly.
-
As I wrote in the other thread: They had it in, they saw that it does not fit the needs of the game and so they decited to take it out. Thats it. We cannot judge if the Venator would have fitted in. The developers at Petroglyph can. They decited it does not and so we have to live with it. Do you really think they will throw away the work of the devs which are responsible for game balancing because some fans want the Venator back in? Be realistic... You have two choices: 1) Accept the devs decision or 2) don't buy the game.
-
I love it. I like the design, I like what it is used for. I think I will build a lot of these

Venator is out... Officially
Little.B replied to Grand Admiral Thrawn 889's topic in EAW General Discussion
All I have to say: OMG! Guys simply keep calm. They had the Venator in, they dicited that it does not fit to the needs of the game and so they decited to take it out again. This game is about being a good game and not about having every unit in someone wants to have in. Such complexity will destroy balance and this is something I don't want to see happen because my personal (and I hope others agree) focus is on the multiplayer mode which has to be balanced to be playable. I have seen the downfall of "Earth 2160" which is already dead, but only a few months old. The community quited because it is a very, very, very complex game, which is fun in singleplayer, but simply unplayable in multiplayer. I'm very glad that this game seems to be more about being balanced then including the whole universe. -
But they could still be used as basic models. Would save the team time in case of the units proportions etc.
-
RTS demos are very small. At least most of them are. I think it will be somewhat around 300 MB (and that's big for an RTS demo). But of course I can be wrong.... but I don't hope so
-
This kind of information policy is kind of annoying. It does not make the game worse but this is definitely something LA has to work on!

I will buy the magazine tomorrow and will have a look at it and correct the translation if necessary.

So if you have an insider in the publishing area ask him pls. about other ships and stuff that we don't know about. A carrier for example. At the Games Convention me and Junker talked to the Brand Manager of Activision Germany and if anything new is released it is published by/via Lucas Arts. Other sources are not allowed to published anything if they do not have the approval of LA. Even Activision, as the german publisher, is not allowed to reveal and even talk about content of the game that has not been revealed yet. If they do, they are in deeeeeeeep trouble...
