  1. yeah, but you'd probably lose more if you had gone through all the trouble of landing the force and fighting on the ground just to end up losing the planet again. the invasion force though should be kept at least as close as one planet away. Unless you're going to go deep and risk a behind the lines type of invasion and massed the needed troops for something like that. You should only invade planets that you are sure you can take and can reinforce quickly.
  2. Now that we know that transports will be part of the fleet, it's important to discuss their role when invading planets and how to best protect them. Of course, the best way to protect them is to not put them into the fleet in the first place. Instead, a new type of fleet will have to be created. This "Invasion fleet" will likely consist of no more than the transports and a light escort. Light compared to that of the "spearhead fleet". In an invasion the first fleet to arrive on the scene will be the "spearhead fleet" consisting of no ground troops because, otherwise, it would have transports it would have to protect. This fleet will consist of several capital ships, escort frigates and all their fighters. Once that fleet has secured the space around the planet the "Invasion fleet" will jump in. The invasion fleet will not have huge capital ships but just enough backup to protect it from fighters while it flees. The troops on board the transports are too valuable to stay where capital ships are duking it out as they may end up in the crossfire or the crosshairs of the bombers. Therefore, the invasion fleet will stay at a well protected planet and once the new planet's space section is controlled, will jump in to complete the invasion. with only a squadron of fighters able to easily take down a transport, this is the safest way to use transports and eliminates the enemy's ability to stave off an invasion just by shooting the transports. comments?
  3. there should only be a couple of instances where transports are seen: 1) you orderred a retreat but there aren't enough capital ships for the troops and they stay on transports. 2) transports have to be launched (maybe with a launch/recover button and the computer decides the number and load for them) and they have to either reach the planet or reach some kind of window zone over the planet, much like how the shuttle needs a window in order to launch or land in the right spot. when the battle ends, you either hit an end button or the launch button and order your transports to the rondevous zone. other than that, imperial transports, at least, shouldn't be seen. Maybe the rebel would have to be housed in Gallofree medium tansports but at least that would fit.
  4. Somethings about transports don't add up though. Why don't we see the transport ships in any videos or screenshots where all the battles are taking place? Could this mean that they do stay inside the caps till your ready to begin the actual invasion? also, if transports stay outside, won't battles degenerate into who can kill the transports faster? One tactic to really hurt an enemy is not to take out the 1 or 2 ISDs they have in front but that entire battalion of troops that costs as much as an ISD but, in space, have the hitpoints of a squadron of loley transports.
  5. It oculd be a radiator or a bussard ramscoop like those from Star Trek or maybe it's not the engine but the launcher for the bigger missiles it can carry.
  6. They were in ROTJ. when Wedge gives his customary order "lock s-foils in attack possitions" it jumps to a rear view of the X-wings and B-wings doing just that.
  7. Wow, Juggernaut, you hit the nail on the head. Man, I can't believe the accuracy of that Lancer and Dreadnaught.
  8. Don't forget the B-wings, interceptors and all the cool frigate level ships like the Dreadnaught, Carrack and Lancers. There just aren't enough classes of frigate in this game.
  9. These are not unnecessary ships. They knew from the beggining people would want to use all of them and to claim ignorance or to claim they ran out of time is bull at this point. I told them last february that I was expecting nothing less than every ship seen in Rebellion and so did the rest of the community. They have no excuse for not having all the ships. The game is done. It is. look at the second trailer, everything is there, basic gameplay is done. They can at least add the B-wing and Interceptor before Frebruary. I can understand balancing for the SSD but what the hell did they add between E3 and now that took up too much time put in these two advanced, necessary, fighters? It better have NOT been that crappy TIE scout! if they can add the TIE scout, they can add the B-wing and interceptor.
  10. I don't think there will be planetary bombardment. It just gives too much of an advantage to the invaders. I think they will be sticking to just bomber attacks.
  11. I would be extremely disappointed if they didn't go all the way to ROTJ. I love Star Wars but I do not like half-assed games that give us no pleasure. Do they really expect us to be content conquering the galaxy and, in effect, living out Episodes 4 to 6 without the ships that were in them? if I don't see a reviewer mention Interceptors, B-wings or SSDs, I may seriously consider passing up this game.
  12. AA-gun could be made more realistic by doing something very simple: Letting them miss and letting fighters take evasive maneuvers. I have only one strategy game where anything missed it's target but really did try to hit it: Cavedog's "Total Annihilation". That is, to me, the best strategy game of all time because of the sheer diversity of the mechs, the true 3D terrain environments, and the fact that a battle could take more than seconds because bombs, rockets and missiles could actually miss their target.
  13. I agree. the 4 most important ships left out in this game are the Dreadnaughts, Lancers, Carracks, and Bulk cruisers. In Star Wars Rebellion/Supremacy they served as the back bone of many of my fleets because they were cheap, easy-to-build ships that allowed you to have some kind of starting ships and later served as great support vessels. The Lancer and Carrack classes are renowned for thier anti-fighter capabilities. I certainly hope they do not leave out these ships, there aren't many ships and to leave out frigates force people to build nothing but big cruisers and destroyers, which, for the rebellion side at least, is completely off timeline.
  14. for the major characters like Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca They could use voice clips straight out of the movies or they could rip off Rebellion. I think the former would be more likely.
  15. I think you've all forgotten a couple of the most important things about Rebellion: IT IS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE VIDEO GAME EVER MADE BASED ON A POPULAR MOVIE/TV SHOW. The game has every character you could possibly want from Garm Bel Iblis to Thrawn and even some very lesser known characters. there are over 50 characters for recruitment. there are also over 38 different ships to choose from when waging you war. EVERYTHING from quasars, to corvettes, to nebulons, lancers, carracks, dreadnaughts, SSDs, ISD 2s, and Vic 2s. they even have EVERY important system you ever heard of from pre-new trilogy. Even Adegon, the place where Lightsaber crystals are mined. if this game is nothing else it's a virtual encyclopedia AND EVEN COMES WITH AN INGAME ENCYCLOPEDIA for the old trilogy. here's 2 links to the alliance and Imperial ships. I took this screenshot from the Editor for the game, Rebed. http://www.hyperjump.net/deadeye141/Alliance%20ships.bmp http://www.hyperjump.net/deadeye141/Imperial%20ships.bmp
  16. but where's the big yellow fireballs we all know and love from ROTJ?
  17. As for the new video, I thought it was ok for the amount of time they've been working on it. The Ships do seem a little bit squished and boxy in the video when switched to that cinematic camera and I would have liked a bit more Homeworld type destructions for the fighters. I think they might not have had a lot of death scenes for the ships yet because it's still early. yeah, blown off parts should be floating around and not falling, as well as the smoke. Ships should take more time to be killed but they stated it was an accelerated game and likely they sped up the action so we can see what happened. I didn't like the little ball explosions when a ship died either; that just didn't seem very realistic at all. If you watch ROTJ, you'll see an ISD blow up above the SSD when Ackbar tells his crew to focus all firepower on the SSD. It blew up along the same line as the ISDs in the game but it didn't have those ball explosions at the hardpoints. One major thing I see is that all the explosions look like they were in blue. Fighters blew up and a little blue cloud of dust took their place. nothing blows up in blue. If they do the map like Rome: Total War's I'd like to see ships able to go anywhere but if they go Rebellion style (which is what it looks like) you should not be able to bypass huges fleets on the front lines to attack the light defended area in the back. that's all for now, I'll post again if I have any further comments.
