I thought the answer to three was nothing like Rebellion but there were ways of getting planets to join or help you without conquring them.
-
will there be and what are the attack move commands for EAW(especially space)?
-
In homeworld the gravity well was designed to stop missiles but In X-wing Alliance, in the mission with Luke, the only way to get rid of the interdictor was for the squadron to fire it's missiles at the thing.

thank you, popcorn. I've been here since this forum started. I've been a moderator on IRC channels and let's just say I wasn't the best of them. I'm glad you undestand, I hope there aren't hard feelings.

maybe the gravity wells have to be turned off if you want your ships to retreat. It would make sense. you come out of hyperspace and the rebels are too powerful and you have to click off the gravity wells before you can escape yourself.
-
Now to get back to my question about the interdictors, I was discussing whether the Interdictor gravity wells will act like they did in Rebellion where they kept the enitre system locked up or if there will be a ring, like the ring that appears here http://www.eaw-fr.com/screen/eaw/137.jpg around the planet and hyperspace travel within that ring is restricted. Also, will the gravity wells be targetable, allowing for the simple disabling of the wells without having to blow the entire ship up. any comments on this?

What this game really needs.

if I may say something, I just wanted an attack-move command like all other RTSs had and thought the Homeworld attack box could be used for space missions. Even in homeworld you aren't required to use it, but it is an option. if you want to micromanage your ships and come up with all kinds of complex strategies noone may even actually use, go ahead. -
Act of War has a CNN type of ticker that goes by saying things like "US Marine KIA". It worked for that game.

I agree. -
Acclamators and Venators are movie cannon Destroyers that regularly enter the atmosphere. But there must have been a limit to repuslorlift echnology and the ISD class was built too big and needed transports.

Planetary Shield Generators?
Deadeye31_pff replied to MasterTactician's topic in EAW General Discussion
I doubt there will be planetary shields. In Rebellion if you put 2 planetary generators on a planet. It would take no less than a fleet of ISDs to break through. Add in an ion cannon or hypervelocity gun in this game and can you say turtling? -

I am very concerned with the way battles in the videos are faught. I have yet to see them use even the attack-move command let alone any general orders like rebellion had. I just don't want to have to micromanage men who should know what they're doing. -
anyone else notice what looked like a giant ion bolt being fired at that Vic in the space battle portion? I'd swear it looked like the space based Ion Cannon.

Planetary Shield Generators?
Deadeye31_pff replied to MasterTactician's topic in EAW General Discussion
shields work only in a limited range around a generator which will usually be in the middle of the base on the planet. -
i swear to you, if I see 100% accuracy like troops in 99% of other RTSs have, I'll not only not play EAW but I'll break the frigging disk in half and picket Petroglyph. I HATE  !!! games where everybody's got 100% accuracy.

if you had a fusion reactor the size of Manhattan, I would think you could do anything. -
Planets With A Deathwish

Yavin IV was the name of the Moon. It was the fourth moon so it was called Yavin IV. The planet was just Yavin. Who knows what would happen if you blew up a gas giant? -
if there's going to be an expansion/expansions the first is going to extend the tech tree to Endor and make this game, in essence, Rebellion 2.
-
I think the VSD will likely be what it really was in rebellion: a cheaper, albeit little bit weaker, alternative to the ISD. In Rebellion it was faster to just build an escort carrier to have the fighters of the ISD and build a VSD to have the guns.

How to take out Mon Cal Cruisers and Loads of Rebel Fighters
Deadeye31_pff replied to Foshjedi2004's topic in Slag Heap
That is assuming your fighters live long enough to impliment that strategy. Ties fighters are a hell of a lot weaker than X-wings and will get pawned in this game. If the Rebels have even 2 corvettes, it's all over for your fighters. The thing about Tie fighters is that it costs about 3 time as much to build Ties as it does for X-wings. You may be asking "how is that?!". Well it's quite simple, for a couple of squadrons of X-wings you need just one ship and if the ship hold 3 or 4 fighter squadrons you can add on bombers or A-wings. For a tie force to combat that you need, for 2 squadrons of X-wings 3 to one odds. Add A-wings and you probably will need 4 to one odds to have anything left after the battle. Throw in corvettes and you need a good 5 to one fighters to anti-fighter. a corvette is likely worth 2 or three 3 squadrons. Now you have to transport all of those Ties to the front line. That means you need destroyers and that costs money too. So to build enough fighters for space superiority, you need about 3 to one in just fighters for every X-wing Squadron. 5:1 corvettes. 6+:1 for combos. And even then you're looking at 50-75% losses if not the whole group. Ties just don't make it in space combat. Rebellion was the same way. If there is one way to bring the odds down significantly, you can bring corvettes too however if the rebels make an effort to hit those, you could lose them too. in the end it takes more money to take down rebel fighters, than imperial ones. It was like this in Rebellion, it'll likely be like this now. -
Those can't possibly be from the same graphics level as the videos on the site. They, quite frankly, suck. I personally believe those Plastic looking acclamators are what the lower end will look like. I just doesn't look as good the movies and I prefer realistic to blocky.

What will immerse you most into the SW universe? Part II
Deadeye31_pff replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
All my favorite ships are in the game, the cruisers, Y-wings, Nebulon Bs and gallofrees. I also worship John Williams, he is the mozart of our time. I especially love that the Mon Calamari are in the game. They should help the rebels repel the Imps on Mon Calamari and it would be just cool seeing them. -

actually, the attack box allows you to get a grip on what's going on. It's far too tedious to have to click on each kind of fighter or each individual squadron and tell them to attack. That is why they created the attack-move command for 2-D games. In a space battle with dozens of squadrons of fighters, frigates and Capital ships, you need to look at the grand strategy more than the individual dogfights. Here's a senario involving EAW if it had the attack box command. I have a cruiser, 2 Nebulons, 1 Mk2, 2 corvettes and a gunboat. Fighters are 3 Y-wings squadrons and 4 X-wing squads. I see a fleet of 1 ISD, 2 Vics, a venator and an Acclamator as well as 4 squadrons of bombers and 4 squadrons of Ties. I first use the attack-box and all my ships go into battle. My cruiser goes to the left of the ISD so it can get a broadside going. Meanwhile my frigates and Mk2 will take on the other side's frigate. Bombers and fighters duke it out. During the battle, While I watch and pray for a victory, I see the cruiser needs to retreat. At a glance, thanks to the control panel, I see that 2 squadrons of Y-wings are still here. I click on them by themselves and order them to hit the ISD. I can then go back to observing the action. You can still do strategies even if the attack box is in. The reason there is an attack box is so that you can spend more time putting out little fires inside the chaos knowing your troops know who to attack while you micro manage a few little areas like a real general does. It also prioritizes attacks. If the enemy has a reserve fleet by, let's say a Space station then your ships will fight only those inside the box out by the rim of the system. Then they will reform and await new orders unless attacked again. by utilizing the attack box I also don't give the enemy a chance to attack my ships one at a time as all of their ships will be engaged. besides, if you could crush the enemy's fleet either way would you rather just draw a box and unleash the dogs? The attack box doesn't take away strategy it makes it more manageable to have multi-type ships in a fleet. The alternative is: click on corvette one and go after this fighter group. then click x-wings and they go after that fighter group. then click a frigate and click on enemy frigate to attack that. It's just so much more user friendly to have the attack box and spend the battle filling the breaks in the line. Generals have been using a type of attack box since the dawn of warfare, they tell their troops attack the men here and those men know to attack that position and no other. the issue is ease of use, not strategy. if you still want to micro-manage go ahead, I'd rather actually enjoy the battle. -
I also wonder what will happen to facilites not destroyed during the battle. For instance, can the rebels capture a planet that's equiped with a hypervelocity gun and use it against the empire? Can the imperials do the same? This could also lead to a kind of scortched earth retreat. like you know you're losing the planet so you turn your guns on your own buildings so that the Imps don't get them. Could be a damning tactic. as for the cantina, I read that that may be the place your pilots come from. I guess everyone could use a drink after they staired down an ISD and lived to tell about it.
