  1. wow, I heard borg cubes were twice the size of an ISD but I'll be damned. It never seemed that big in Next Generation.
  2. I would have made it Rebellion 2. Everyship from that game, no matter how similar to another it was, would have been in this game. I would have scrapped the ISD 2 and Vic 2 for the Acclamator and Venator, though, if we wanted Episode 3 ships. I also would have likely scrapped the Liberator cruiser and the Bulkwalk battlecruiser and maybe the SSD for the timeline, but there deffinitely would have been no tartan(it would be the lancer and the IMP 1, that other ship, would have been the carrack) nor the Mark 2 assault frigate (It would have been the well known regualr assault frigate that appears in many games) Heck, Activision, in Star Trek: Armada 2, appealed more to its fanoys. They put in the Intrepid class (Voyager was a ship of this class) and made it unique from the Akira, which was a better ship, by giving it phasers that never stopped firing. Other ships had a fire, stop, fire, the Intrepid didn't. They made it work and didn't settle for just one frigate. They had 2,the akira and intrepid, a light escort (the defiant class) and a scout ship. rather than make excuses for why a ship didn't work, I would have found a way to make it (any ship from rebellion) work. now that I think about it, Armada had a lot more ships than here. You can say they needed planets and ground forces too, but if they weren't ready or didn't have the foresight for all of this, that is no excuse. This was an ambitious project ot say the least and though I don't think they pulled it off, they did do enough that the expansion packs, and mods, can put in all this stuff. I prefer official expansion packs though.
  3. this is really turning into a fiasco with all these changes. There had better be an expansion out by June the latest or heads are going to roll. First they made up that stupid Tartan and that Mk2 assault frigate. Then they said there would be no B-wings, interceptors or SSD 9the last I could live without but the other, what the hell?). now they go and cut a ship that we all concieved of as some sort of consolation for all this. god damn it. This is getting worse by the day. I don't care if all the ships do almost the same thing, In rebellion they made it work. Here they're just appealing to the regular RTS hobos and screwing those of us who were waiting for this game for the last 10 years. I swear, if they make one more major change like this, I'm not buying the game. The unit list is already crap compared to Rebellion's, don't make it worse.
  4. that screenshot is from gamespot's designer diary #2 which is dated today. There are 4 screenshots besides that one and they all look current. Therefore, they either submitted the diary and shots before they scrapped the Venator or they are leaving it for a surprise or expansion. That model looks too far along to be simply cut.
  5. I don't mind the Empire having twice as much fighter capacity, as they had in Rebellion (ISD held 6, Cruisers held 3) because rebel fighters were twice as good as Imperial ones and it balanced very nicely. If you take away the Rebel fighter advantage you are pretty much handing the imperial players the game. Look at the fighter advantage the Empire has so far. Rebel fighter squadrons cost 1 population cap point each, imperials none. And now they want the Empire to be able to spam Fighters? Are rebel fighters really going to go through ties so easily that the Empire needs both to keep up? If so, the Rebels might as well build corvettes because I haven't heard whether they take up population points either. This could be the reason we don't actually see many rebel fighters in Screenshots or movies, they might not be worth it. I mean, all an Imperial officer has to do is get a few ISDs together and just keep all the fighters in back while he just keeps building more and when he grossly outnumbers the enemy fighters, do a wave attack. Unless the timer is going to be long, this is what I believe will happen in multiplayer games.
  6. Why take out the Venator? it happens to be the best design I've ever seen for a Star Destroyer. In fact, it's coolness surpasses even the ISD and SSD. It just looked to perfect for Episode 3. The guy who drew it deserves a bonus.

    What if

if the empire doesn't have interdictors, then I'd just do hit and runs with the fighters. Primary targets would be troop transports and tie fighters, if they are the computer's ships they probably will have the transports with them. If the ISDs turned to try to attack my fleet, I'd go as long as possible, maybe do a couple of shield generator runs if I got the transports and get out of there. Besides, most fleets, both rebel and Imperial will likely not have whole groups of ISDs. With ISDs and Cruisers being the top ships and thus very expensive, there will likely be more support ships than capital ships in any engagement. I think a fleet of ISDs vs a fleet of Cruisers is not likely to happen till way into the game, if you let your enemy build up that fleet.
  8. It gives you a new appreciation for the clones and the original fett. Now we know why he's so good.
  9. You know what the assault frigate reminds me of? those landing craft the Aliens had in Independence day. It looks like they took the top of those ships, made it oval in stead of sharp and put the Nebulon B forward bottom hull on it. Now that I think about it. It's actually a pretty cool ship. It's not the Mark 1 but it look very cool.
  10. Not really, the Gunship fits that role a little better. the gunships are still corvette class, just given another name. And yeah, they were better. I usually sent in my gunships first to clear out enemy fighters if I didn't feel like wasting ships.
  11. riddle me this: Delphi, why did you guys put in dagobah if you didn't think Yoda should be in the game? I mean, come on, who thinks up this stuff?

    Question

The blockade tactic acted more like a check. For instance when you send your troops on an espionage mission the computer does a check to see if their espionage rating was as good as the detection rating of those forces on the planet. when you blockade the system your troops, in essence became the forces that the character had to get through in order to get to the planet. If the check failed then the troops were captured during the try. If you had an ion canon on the planet it made getting through the blockade a lot easier. So having one ship blockade a planet wasn't actually very feasible. But you could it for the recon instead. if you don't get pounded before getting away.

    Question

I've incited many an uprising but when the computer uses diplomacy, it uses diplomacy. It was rare, if ever, that you'd find a planet with even a hint of inclining toward your side.

    Question

In Rebellion, because diplomacy and popular support were important in maintaning control of a planet, Often, unless you had 6 trooper regiments and a good diplomat with the fleet, all you could do was blockade the planet and at least deny the enemy the resources from those mines and refineries on the planet.
  15. The rebels have better fighters, true, but the Empire has the better capital ships. That's how it works in the Star Wars Universe.

    Question

yeah, I think that's how it's going to be but one at a time.
  17. the anti-fighter ship for the Imps but the rebels have been using corvettes for antifighter work since Rebellion. Even in the X-wing games they pawned fighters.
  18. I just built my computer and went a for a bargain one so I built: Athlon 3500+ 1 Geforce 6600GT 1 gig of ram 160GB hard drive as for you, if you're going to go above the 3700+ get a dual core processor. newegg.com (where you should buy everything unless zipzoomfly.com has it for cheaper) has dual core Athlon 3800+ for less than the 4000 and that second processor will do wonders. Also, if you go Athlon get a socket 939 board, the 939s go all the way to the Athlon 4800+ dual core so upgrading will be as easy as pie. just my suggestions.
  19. I wonder if that is Leia. It sounds too old. I'm under the impression it's actually Mon Mothma. she would be old enough to know where Obi-wan went.
  20. he doesn't mean a clone wars expansion. Do you really think they'd go through all the trouble of building up to Yavin just to go backwards with the expansion packs? For god's sake, men, get a grip. This is an Original Trilogy game, not a clone wars game.
  21. this all begs the question, though if upgrades will be for just one planet's built units or if the upgrade will be for the entire galaxy and thus take quite a while to do.
  22. IT IS CONFIRMED!!! GRAVITY GENERATORS ARE TARGETABLE!! if you watch the ISD movie right at the beginning a deep voice clearly stats "our gravity well generators have been destroyed". So here's to all the rebel strategists who need to get away.
  23. well, guys, it seems the Star Destroyer movie confirms that shield generators on at least the ISD and Interdictor, (and therefore probably the Victory-class ones too) are targetable. If you watch the Interdictor's tower explodes right between two little lumps on the top where the generators are typically placed on destroyers and I think you can hear them say "our shield generators have been destroyed". at the very tail end of the movie you can see someone take a pot shot at the ISD's generators too so in any strategy against the empire, just mass your Y-wings and hit the generators.
  24. I concur, does the guy have to spell it out? Jeez, when I made my first text based C++ game for class, I had to almost spell out the programming too. luckily I got an A on it. Damn right I should have, too, because everyone else did crappy blackjack and I did a 3 level dungeons and Dragons type game.
  25. I still think there'll be an expansion showing at least the rest of the original trilogy. It's almost guaranteed since there is a demand for the ships. As to why I don't care much for mods here's a list of reasons: 1) balance. If someone built the SSD they'll give it the weapons of the SSD even if it means nothing except a fleet of cruisers could destroy it and even then there would be huge loses for the rebels. Sometimes realism isn't necessary. 2) looks. If you made any ship with too many or too few polygons it will show up instantly and I like my ships to all look like they're from the same universe. 3) you get more than just added ships in an expansion. You get more characters, missions, and planets, too. 4) the casual gamer doesn't like to have to scrounge around for mods and it's just easier to get an expansion. 5) an expansion is more than just an add-on. it shows that the makers are dedicated to giving the gamers more and typically all they ask for when they add all this stuff is just another $30.
