I thought about this months ago but kept forgetting to say that it needed to be in. Delphi, if you see this either suggest this to the crew or let us know it's already in, it could be important. I have had one great respect for Homeworld and it was the way you could fight a battle. Unlike a regular RTS where you used the move-attack order and click behind your enemy's base to get your army to automatically attack everything in its path, Homeworld's makers took the idea to space and came up with a ground breaking version of this old command: the attack box. if you've ever played Homeworld or Homeworld 2 you know that if you held the control button and dragged a box around the enemy, your ships would go after anyone in that box based on who they wee good against. Here's an example: I have a fleet of fighters, frigates and capital ships in formation moving toward an enemy fleet with the same configuration. In Homeworld, to ensure ease of use, they allowed me to just hold control and drag a box around the enemy and let go. Boom, the battle began. fighters would automatically go after fighters they were good against, corvettes would attack other corvettes or fighter based on their specialty. Bombers would hit frigates and caps and frigates could slug it out. The best part of the attack box was that the computer set the targets and your ships sort of knew who to go up against. It was just an incredible and realistic system and It really needs to be in this game. please, Delphi, if this isn't ingame, suggest it as a last thing to code. I heard petroglyph wanted players to also enjoy the battle scenes and gave us that cinematic camera for that. With the attack box command from homeworld it would be so much easier to control huge multi-type fleets and with a single simple drag of the box we can then just sit back and actually enjoy our fleets pummelling each other. I hope Petroglyph did this. The old style attack-move command just isn't suited to space warfare. what do you guys think?

if a planet was destroyed its moons would fling out into space. Since the Forest moon is still there, the planet is too.

are those people coming out of the blown up ships? I can't really make it out. It happens so quickly and the things look more like mutated jacks than people.

The lancer was the ship I was really hoping for. It is sleek, and great at taking down those pesky starfighters. sorry, Nevets I screwed up. I meant the Liberator not lancer. I wanted to see the lancer too.

but Delphi, if you had looked at Rebellion's unit list you would have seen the ships everyone was waiting for. take out the ISD 2 and Vic 2, and put in the Venator and Acclamator. skip over all the transports except the rebel Medium transport and probably the Star Galleon for the imps. you could leave out the Liberator, Dauntless, and SSD and there you go, you've got all the ships you needed. when you guys come back for an epansion, e-mail me, I'll tell you what to put in if you can't decide. here's the list after my modifications: Imperials: Tie Fighter Tie Bomber Tie interceptor Tie scout Caps: carrack for light anti-fighter work. Lancer for heavy anti-fighter work Imperial Dreadnaught for cheap escort frigate acclamator for heavy transport Victor-class for light-medium assault + fighters Venator for medium-heavy assault, mainly fighter carrier. Imperial-Class is the big boy Rebels: Z-95 (if you really want the player to steal the X-wing) A-wing B-wing X-wing Y-wing correllian corvette for light, fast anti-fighter work correllian gunship (cigar shaped corvette) for heavier anti-fighter work plus anti-cap turbos (think heavy corvette from homeworld). Rebel medium transport for transport Nebulon-B frigate for heavy escort, multi-role ship Rebel Dreadnaught for the same reason as imperial assault Mark 1 to combat the Venator and Victory's guns. MC-80a to hold fighters (this class is similar, if smaller, to Home One) Liberty-class winged cruiser to combat the guns of the ISD. that should be the unit list. Noone, I truly believe would mind the absense of the SSD. besides, what are you giving the rebels to combat the Venator? It does seem like a big gap in the firepower of the Rebels. However, to balance this, the cruiser could be given more fighter capacity and the Rebel fighters could be worth 2 to 3 Ties, eliminating the need for the 80a to be built.

How to defeat an Enemy ISD/ SSD Blockade.
Deadeye31_pff replied to Foshjedi2004's topic in Slag Heap
don't count your Star Destroyer turbolasers before they fire. A squadron of Y-wings hitting the shield generators and that cruiser just got a power boost. if you look at the movie featuring the Star Destroyer, on the main site, you see 2 Imperial ships, one an interdictor go down in about 5 seconds. If those cruisers were to turn on the ISD, it would have no hope. -
perhaps you can only shoot at a target with the hypervelocity gun when you are in tactical mode. Therefore, he sent in a destroyer and it launched its fighters when it came out of hyperspace (this is an ingame feature as there is a movie showing a Destroyer vs a cruiser) and he just selected one after the gun fired. Maybe there were more ships that needed dealing with or they just selected it.

In most games the range of the artillery was bigger than its view. In Generals you could link the patriot missile launchers so that a forward one would make it look like a weak defense but when the enemy came the rear could fire too thanks to the help of the foreward launcher's sight range.

Will ships repair instantly after battle?
Deadeye31_pff replied to Deadeye31_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
oh god noooooo, it's like C&C and RTW. As a fan of both, I know what it's like being stuck at one end of the map or on the other end of the world and have to go all the way back to base where your repair yards are, or to that stupid 1 city that can repair your advanced units( You RTW fans know what i'm talking about). there better be some level of self-repair or at least a lower level station can at least repair ships if not build them. -
I guess it allows locals within a certain range to become Imperial slaves. for the rebels, at least against an imperial computer player, maybe there'll be mini-missions on the planetary map. Like you land your troops on Endor and it pans to a group of imperials shooting Ewoks. If you save the ewoks, you get an army of them to help you. that could be one way of wooing the natives to your side.

the hypervelocity gun is a weapon of death the Ion cannon isn't. It almost fits the doctrines of the two sides. Imperials kill all in their way. The rebels kill only those they have to.

they're putting in a few classes of what I think will be "minor" heros. for instance, they have a field commander unit and a fleet commander unit. Perhaps they won't be as prominent as the "Major" heroes but they will be heroes. Here's my theory on the difference between major and minor hero. Major hero: Huge boosts to abilities special attacks lotta hitpoints once lost, gone forever Minor hero: good enough boosts less hitpoints abilities may be limited to accuracy bonuses for a few seconds and the like. can build lots of them

Will ships repair instantly after battle?
Deadeye31_pff replied to Deadeye31_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
I meant the repair system not the whole frigging game and, actually, yes, if this isn't the rebellion remake we've all been waiting for then rebellion never existed. -

please, Delphi, just this once, is it like Rebellion? -
I don't know if this belongs here or in a new topic but if you listen closely to the Star Destroyer video it sort of confirmed that the docking bay will be a targetable hardpoint because in the movie someone lost theirs. whether this means until it's fixed ships can't dock or you can't launch fighters or possibly even lose docled ones along with the bay is another topic but bays are in so they must have some significance.

Will ships repair instantly after battle?
Deadeye31_pff replied to Deadeye31_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
in linear RTS games that go map by map you never had the same units in any two missions. In games where you did, like Homeworld, there was a huge amount of "time" between jumps and theoretically ships could be repaired during that time. In a game like this it's much more realistic to have to repair your ships. Rome Total war had a version of this where even if you won a lot of battles and kept your companies intact you may have lost a lot of men in the companies and although it's still a unit it's damaged and should be repaired. I hope they coded repair there was no reason not to. -
I don't know if this has been finalized yet but did Petroglyph ever finalize whether ships will instantly fully repair after a battle or if they will have to repair it alla Rebellion style? In Rebellion it could take a long time for a ship to repair if it suffered serious damage in a battle. For the rebels this might be a worthwhile and cheaper tactic than to be forced to either destroy the enemy or leave them alone.

sorry about posting it in the wrong area, I didn't really look at the whole list of forums available. Well, I hope they sort it out quickly, the discussion there seem a little more casual than the average topic here.

This may just be me but for some reason I can't connect to the Lucasart EAW forum. In fact I can't connect to any forums at their site. Could there be something wrong or is it just me?

Gamestop.com says it's not being released till 1/31/06 which is only like 3 weeks before launch.

Attacks on the ground (by the x-wing?)
Deadeye31_pff replied to Jmaster3265's topic in EAW General Discussion
if you could just mod in the B-wing, Interceptor, lancer, carrack and Dreadnaught, I think that's all most people will want. I enjoy the books but I don't much care for living them. -
then why does screenshot after screenshot and video after video show cruisers, in large numbers, standing up to ISDs?
-
Who's to say the rebels won't have interdictors? That assault frigate Mk 2 could be the interdictor for the rebels. The Rebels had that CC7700 frigate in Rebellion for interdiction. no there won't be yanking out of hyperspace, there may be the ability to keep them there once the battle starts but not the ability to intercept a fleet. In Rebellion and, indeed, Star Wars lore, once in Hyperspace there's nothing you can do till you get there. That's why in the books they usually make a few short jumps rather than one long one. as to you, Fosh, you shouldn't leave yourself open to attack when attacking unless it's of dire importance. if you can't even protect the planets you have right now, how do you intend to hold a planet in enemy space?

Capital ships or fighters?
Deadeye31_pff replied to General Ackbar's topic in EAW General Discussion
to make a long story short, My capital ships will not go into the battle with anything less than a full compliment of fighters.
