  1. I think it has to do with either the palette issue, or vakundok's program itself. It seems to me that increasing the size gives better results than reducing-it. That might be just me, though. I'll make another planet just for kick and we'll see if size helps the issue. I'll describe the procedure here: -Get a good ref pic. -Extract the .bin I am about to replace and the associated palette. -Use RH to save these respectively to their .bin and .pal extentions (though I don't use the palette, because I can't get Photoshop to open the .pal extracted from tacticall.dll) -Use vakundok's program to convert the .bin file to a .bmp file (opt 1) -Use his program to add the palette to the bmp (option 4) -Use PS to resize the ref pic, select the planet and paste-it right on top of the .bmp, effectively converting-it to the Rebellion somewhat restricted palette. -Resize this bmp to a power of 2, if applicable. -Rotate the planet if applicable. -Save this bmp. -Then, I use vakundok's option 5, effectively converting the new.bmp to a .bin and a .pal. -To verify my work, I convert back the .bin to a bmp with a diferent name, not to override the new.bmp. -This other bmp, like the first, is like a big pink blob and using opt4 with the new .pal shows me the picture with its color. However, this is where we see that there has been a loss of color information. Wether the same pic is bigger of smaller does not seem to change the issue. I'll test the size theory again, just to be sure, but I don believe that this is-it.
  2. I tought so. Still, my problem is a little bit more technical. It seems that to picture the tactical planet pictures, Rebellion only use 80 colors, instead of their regular 256. On the palette, these colors are represented in a big block, that you may see while looking at the color table of a .bin planet converted to bmp. I tried very hard to reduce the number of color used by my pictures. To do so, I used the pictures that had lost color information and used only the color on these. To no avail. There were still loss of color information. I think the problem come at least partly from the palette shit. But I am convinced your Z-buffer has something to do with-it too. So I've been working on the Brentaal planet for a few hours now, to get-it in-game. What got me the best result in that there were less loss of color was to use a pic from my planet icons. But still, there was a loss that I did not like, so I decided to take the same pic and paste-it inside a 512px template. Strangely enough, rotating the planet 180 degrees gave better results. There's less holes. See for yourself: http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/Brentaal.jpg I'll keep on working on this aspect of the game, but I'm afraid this is going to be even more shit than planet pic in strategy.
  3. I did not test-it. I'm too caught in my own mod, which you may test if you wish, though it is not complete yet.
  4. You could also put specialised planets that are the sole producer or produce the ships faster. For example, Koensayr would be specialist of Y-Wings and K-Wings, Fresia would be specialist of X-Wings, Loronar Strike Cruiser, Bothawui for Bothan Cruiser, if available...
  5. Wrong place to send, as you noticed. At any rate; welcome!
  6. Ramikin... you may be suprised Karpyshyn is quite neat to read!
  7. Okay, I found a way to work this out with vakundok's program. Still pisses me off on some account though. Rundown of what I can do: -Extract the planet bins and their palettes. -Use the program to add color information on the pink planet pics. -Put the thing back in game. Now doing a space battle, I ran accross a darned problem: some colors are interpreted as black. Of course, I knew about this issue, but I tought that taking the original bin (now converted into bmp and using the same palette) and pasting my new pic on-it would convert the pic with the new palette (which it partially did, I mean, I'm using indexed colors and the planet loss some color informations...). And of course, I did the required operation to get the thing in-game correctly: using the program to put the palette and the bmp together to form the correct bin. Maybe I have to save a new palette, when my bmp is done?
  8. So I've been working on this since may 2011. So six month later, the map project is almost done. All that remains is to create the description of 4 systems, and then add 5 sectors in-game. The cherry on the top would be if I could get Darth Tex to make the same wonderful work he did for the Coruscant sector for the whole 20 sectors and it would be amazing! And of course, there is the matter of tactical pics
  9. Well, there is one mod that is already done out there. DarthTex's galaxy new config: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3813 I'm also working on a mod of larger scope. One of it is making my own version of a galaxy that would be more accurate. I am almost done doing so. On the plus side, where Darth Tex had a new galaxy pic and an asteroid icon to replace one of the planet pictures, I modified all of the in game planet pictures along with their encyclopedia pic. I have redone most of the encyclopedia entry text too, with a few exceptions and there is a ton of new planet including the Faleen homeworld. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28010 However, I did not include Dagobah because when Luke goes to Dagobah, in Rebellion, there is no possible way to interact with him. I think it would just be weird to have the planet but him not able to be reached, or the planet being captured meanwhile not to mention that if he goes to Dagobah from extreme east of the galaxy whereas Dagobah would be on extreme west, it would still take him but a few days to come back instead of all the time it actually should take... So if you wish to make your own modification, you will probably need RebEd and assuringly Ressource Hacker. RebEd will let you change the planet pictures (but not replace the original pics by new ones, if that is also your wish...) and move the sectors inside the galaxy, while RessourceHacker will let you change names of sectors and systems (textstra.dll, string table) and the encyclopedia entries (encytext.dll). You'll require some organization to know what planet is wheere and with what you wish to replace-it. I usually work with 4 things at a time: a screenshot of the sector I need to change, a draw of the new planet positions and indicating which planets they should replace, texstra open at the system names of the planets that needs to be replaced and encytext at the entries that have to be replaced. Simple, but tricky. Also, to get better in-sector positionning, DarthTex is the man that will help the poor lost soul I am when it comes to hex-edit.
  10. Yeah, Murphy's always there for you, reminding you that it CAN always go worse.
  11. Hey, I need all you guys help. I am trying to change these images. I know it is possible to change the space battle versions of planet images. Rebellion Reloaded did-it for their Wayland planet and the process is similar with the death star/eclipse pic. So can anybody please send-me a walkthrough of how I can make-it? I already have the Bmp converter program, but the readme is not clear enough on the topic of the planets. It is particularly not clear what I have to do about the palette. If I understood correctly, Each planets have 2 files. One for the actual bin, one for its palette. Let's picture this situation: -I have a new picture for the Coruscant type planet. How do I import-it in game? -Keep in mind that I'll be using PS 6.0 to work on this. -What files has to be modified? Only the converted planet bin, or also its palette? -Why do all the converted bins look like a big chunk of pink?
  12. Do you have Zonju V ?
  13. Yup, they are included
  14. Ah, search for princeps in this forum, you'll find him for sure. He has like 12 post made. However, his pictures were de-hosted. Fortunately, I did save them in the hope of making the changes myself one day. If you look in my older posts, I managed to make some changes myself earlier. However, I did my own version of the changes he did. It is not the same, but it is near perfect and I can tell you that I'm very satisfied with my results now. I only did the fleet interface, by the way. This is one pic of his version: http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/flottenfenster2.jpg Here's mine: http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/FleetWindowImpfinal.jpg That one is imperial fleet in movement, which I know, has to be improved...: http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/FleetWindowImpMove.jpg I did not work on planetary window, but it seems the top of the window is shared with that of the fleet. Litle subtelty: when fleet window is selected, it should be light and dark when unselected. It does not seem to work. I can't get the dark to appear while fleet is not selected, so I inverted them. The dark version is display as a pale one and the light (selected) version appears more clear. There are consequences on the planetary top though, which actually displays selected as dark, because I inverted them. I guess if not pictures, beta testing will speak what I mean more clearly. http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/PlanetPicwip.jpg There's the rebellion fleet window: http://i1027.photobucket.com/albums/y339/Mr_Phil_/Rebellion/FleetWindowReb.jpg Still need to work on project top though!
  15. Only when my mod is done and a person want to play against-me with-it
  16. Recently, I've had crashes to desktop a few times, but no total freeze as you mention. No fix for me so far.
  17. Well I'd say pretty much everything has been changed, though not all the changes were made by me. First thing you need to know is this mod's base is Star Wars Reloaded, which already modified a lot. The GUI has been changed by their team, although I profundly dislike their alliance version and can't seem to change-it... There is the intro video which is reloaded's. Then, I've changed the load screen, but it is rather colored and disformed, so I bet some peeps won't like-it. I've reworked the fleet windows to something that look way better than vanilla and Reloaded, though no screenshots have been requested by anyone thus far... As you can see, my main working focus is working on my own version of the galaxy. However, the Characters are being reworked over and over again. A lot of new ones and new pictures for the old ones. There will be no phoney custom characters in my mod, only real actual EU and regular SW characters. The description lenght are quite lenghty too. Also, all ship models are new ones (not mine) with better textures, altough rebellion's engine limit quality. All vessels have their own cards and I've worked very hard to make the mod balanced. The planet icons have been worked upon extensively, so there's actually only one old picture left: saturn like planet, it is very hard to put a new one in-game... Down sides: -I can't seem to find a way to change the tactical pictures for planets. -I am not abe to move planets inside the sectors and Coruscant, Yavin and Tatooine are misplaced. -I still have C'Boath and Thrawn's voice, for Palpy and Vader's voices (annoying, since C'Baoth sound's more like Dooku...). -Briefing display Wayland for Coruscant and Coruscant for Yavin. I think that's it for now. Let us not forget that I'll probably have made a lot of spelling mistakes, as english is not my first spoken/written language... Edit: I feel like expanding on this issue. It feels to me like the Reloaded team (no offense to anyone in the team) sekked to involve themselves in the game. Their Plokoon-like advisor bothers because he does not sound loud enough and so does a crap load of sounds you guys did. Honestly, I'll look into just restoring vanilla sounds, I think. That was a good try, but not enough. I'll see.
  18. There you go. I know I did a very rough job on the extra pic, but still, that is what you should aim for for better in game visuals. I'm going to test this now myself http://www.mediafire.com/?505vw92pdkhgkg8
  19. I'm currently in the process of correcting the Dorja card. When I'm over, I'll send you the corrected pictures so that you know what I mean!
  20. Some more progress with galactic map: Corporate sector: 99% Hapes Cluster: 99% Kashyyyk Sector: 99% Yavin sector: 99% Coruscant sector: 99% Modell subsector: 99% Mon Calamari/Centrality: 99% Hutt Space: 99% Spice Triangle: 99% Unknown Regions: 99% Anoat Sector: 99% Deep Core: 99%% Alderaan/Kuat Sector: 99% Expansion east: 99% Corellian: 99% Chommell: 99% Wild Space: 99% Pentastar: 99% BactaSec: 99% Senex-Juvex-Eriadu: 99% When I'm done, I'm going to make good re-positionning pics so that Darth Tex may be able to make a better placement and I'll be done with this! All descriptions are done! All sectors are integrated in game! All that remains is for Darth Tex to modify the position of planets within the sectors. Edit: Percentages has been adjusted. -95% means position still need to be adjusted by Darth Tex but I have no ref pic to sent him yet. -97% means the same, but that I do have the required screenshots to send him, though I'll only send him when I have all of them, to prevent misplacing of some planets in adjacent sectors. 99% will mean that they are sent to Darth Tex
  21. Okay, I'll show you how when I've got the time.
  22. So I changed a lot of imperial characters. Bad new is I'll have to work on all of these cars to get rid of the blue aura and other problems. I also had to re-adjust a lot of stats, but in the end, it's going to be good. I've changed the Planetary offensive defense (LNR's for N's artilery and turbolasers). Still progressing with the planets. I've finished gathering the descriptions for 2 sectors: Corellian and expansion east. All I have to do is maps to approximate the planet positions and the actual placing. So yup, after these, only 5 sectors remaining. I've almost done 3/4 of the galaxy! Yay!
  23. Okay, I took a few of your cards to test and had a problem. Did you ever test your cards yourself? I'm sure you must have noticed how they are sometime surrounded by a "blue aura", didn't you? Worse, right-click on a character such as Dorja and click status. There's a lot of blue there too. And you should also test your characters in a battle, you'll see it gets worse. Basically, you have to learn about the blue corner transparency technique and work some more to remove the blue around your characters that are not the same as the transparent blue, which makes them surrounded with blue. If you don't understand, I'll make an example sometimes.
  24. Bah, that's fine in my book. It is hard enough to get good enough ref pics...
  25. Yeah, that's cool, because I kind of don't have time to work on cards for the moment, so it's fortunate someone else has time to do it.
