  1. Don't worry, I'm still working on it At least 3-4 hours every day as well. I was hoping to have something done sooner but boy, the interface sure has been a real challenge! I've posted a new update on the blog: http://swrebellion2.blogspot.com/ As it stands now, I'm very close to having something releasable. Nothing with any real gameplay to it but that's to come once this interface is like 20% done. Hey, that rhymed! Hot damn.
  2. Wow. If I ever had that kind of fleet show up at my door, I'd quit the game for life lol. What happens when you hit fleet group 1? Does half the screen light up? Sweet Jesus lol.
  3. Hey guys! Just wanted to update you all. Game is still in the works. I've spent almost all my spare time on the game. I'm getting to the point where I'll soon be able to release a good part of the game. It'll just be the interface (along with the source code finally) but hey! The interface is looking really sweet so far so get excited. I know I am! Some sweet animation with this!
  4. You probably clicked on this hoping to see new artwork for our game console. I wish that was the case. I am actually writing this post in hopes someone here has the ability to help us construct one. Simply put, what we need is an interface much like the one in either Rebellion or Empire at War. Something we can stick our buttons into, really. You'd think it'd be very simple to do, but because we are all artistically challenged, we cannot. And it's become difficult to program without one. On the bright (or maybe light?) side, however, we are hiring someone to do the character photos and such. The development of the game has slowed down a bit (I spend maybe 2 hours a day programming versus 12) but nevertheless, we're going strong and should have the source code and some basic features ready soon
  5. Heh. Well, I do Q.A. Testing at the Electronic Arts building in Fairfax (Virginia). Bioware did just become an EA Affiliate, so maybe I can find a way to get my manager to mention something to them and have Bioware mention something to Obsidian (Knights of the Old Repubic) who could then mention something to LucasArts who could then mention something to Lucas himself I'm only kidding, of course. Besides the fact that it probably wouldn't work... We only work with MMORPGs sadly, and I don't think my boss would appreciate that sort of favor
  6. Well, all these things are true. And indeed, if we get pressed, we'll simply change the names and the characters and let you mod them back in or something close to legal. But yanno... none of us would mind working with LucasArts to get this game out. It seems like a lot of companies are making these free to play games nowadays (of course, with in game ads, which would not be fun) but still. I like to think that something could be worked out with them. It's not like we're trying to damage their reputation or anything.

  8. Hey guys! I've got a question to ask. Is there anyone here who might be interested in building us a new interface? Or, better yet, drawing us one. Currently we're using parts of the previous display -- the old "view from the bridge" that Rebellion used. We're not too inclined to draw something as spiffy ourselves, and we'd rather not use the old one. Anyone interested?

I mean we certainly have someone who I hope will sketch for us (the Mara Jade picture was drawn by her) but still. If that doesn't work out, we could use them. If not though, I'm sure we'll survive Just let me know! Always looking for new team members as well.
  12. Why haven't I responded to this thread yet? My apologies Please continue to post more though! You guys have some great ideas Jahled, we could always use someone with photoshop (CS3) skills. If you ever want to donate them let me know! I mean, I can't even get Mara Jade into the Imperial background heh. And yes, AI will be smarter lol. The logic of it is something that'll take me a while but random battles will be based on ship and Admiral stats for sure. Also, as for the gravity wells, we will have exactly what DarthTex suggested: toggles. I'd like the game itself to have very little difference from the old save for tweaks and bug fixes, but it'll come with a damn large list of toggles! If you want, I'll throw no-gravity wells into it. I will still look into better balancing gravity wells. Perhaps put a timer/charger on them or give them some sort of range. DarthTex, I've read through that post as well. Most of the things listed in the "Top 5..." thread I indeed have on my mind. Most will be delivered via the game editor (such as planet ownership). As for planetary battles, I may not change much, but I will add a system to help you make better choices. For instance, you'll be able to select which units will take part in a planetary invasion (as you likely don't want to send down units better suited for defense). Thoughts? Also, your idea for ship upgrades is fantastic! If you want, make me a list of different ship items/upgrades and whatnot, and I'll totally work those in. Very Homeworld 2 / Starfleet Command like! RenegadeMax, I hope to have a "normal" and "advanced" mode to let you decide how much micromanaging you want to do. Now as for the missions you suggested, that'd be quite a lot to micromanage with. However, we'll have an event creator as part of our RebEd2, so you'll be able to add those events if you wish to. Exp for all units will be one feature, I hope. Ship capture is one issue I'm still debating though. There's a significant balance issue there, mainly with the Imperials who have very powerful fleets. If all you needed to do was disable a ship to capture it *and of course win the battle*, the Imperials would have a field day. I'm deciding on that still.[/color]
  13. Well, advancing rapidly for one person anyway I reads up the characters and planetary info and has a fancy display and music, but a lot more to do still. Especially once we hit the 3D parts. That's gonna get rough, but with a bunch of new guys on board, this might not be so bad!! And we're always looking for help too! I wish everyone the best of luck though and hope that we can get something for the community before too awful long.
  14. w00t! I'm very pleased to announce that two of my good friends have joined me on the project! One is a Computer Science major at Princeton, New Jersey and the other is also a Computer Science major attending a local college (both graduate Spring 2009). Obviously, I cannot keep them as well... it's not my work to use I will use them only to finish that part of the game. When finished, the only thing I'll need to do is swap them with new ones and be set. I'm hoping that at least one of you can make these new ships or maybe I can get the guys behind the Reloaded project to donate theirs if they want? I'm not sure. Still, just something to be thinking about Still. Looks pretty intense huh? Damn awesome!
  17. Well to be honest, it'll have the original screen until I've finished all the classes and methods I've only recently gotten myself familiar with building 3D models. Loading 3D environments will take me extra long. I might as well put my focus on finishing this part of the game first. Then, as I learn the 3D stuff, maybe the community can take what I have and add better images

  19. Ha! Now there's a good idea. I like it I've finally reached the point where this stuff has become difficult, I should add. Nothing I can't handle, and I am certainly enjoying the learning process here, but damn! I never thought it'd be so hard to get a right-click menu going! I'm trying to post my code, but it really needs to be cleaned up first heh.

  21. If someone wants to help me though I really need a collection of thumbs for each character in the original game. I need to test out the JList icon feature and make sure I can paint each portrait to each character. To make a long story short, Rebellion isn't working right with screenshots heh. The characters will be re-drawn in the new game I hope, but for now...
  22. I am trying to be I just hope LucasArts can forgive me... Honestly, I've got a tremendous amount of respect for them, and even though I may not be a huge fan of the recent 3, I mean no harm heh.   24. Jython looks interesting. I like it, might help me make this with a bit more celerity Scripting will be difficult. I'll have to see -- I'm not really familiar with making script makers. Making scripts sure! Hehe. Basically, all the character information is done. A lot more is finished than is shown here but hey! It's something. And no, the game wont look like that (the "character" button heh). It'll have something much more flashy. Just there for testing purposes.
  25. Sorry for the delay of updates. I've mainly been applying for jobs, but I have still been working on the game quite hard. So I have good news, though. I have 3D models now! They include a TIE-Fighter, TIE-Bomber, TIE-Interceptor, TIE-Defender, a Victory Class Star Destroyer, and an Imperial Class Star Destroyer. ((Hopefully, I'll post pictures of these soon. They look quite awesome!)) I also have a few character portraits that were hand-drawn for me and very soon I will be recording voices for each character. My biggest goal here right now is to set up an environment for fleet battles similar to the one in Rebellion. Once I can get each craft to show up on a 3D plain, it will take off from there, and I will have everything needed to complete space battles (save for the rest of the 3D models, but we'll get those heh). w00t!
