Well, that's basically all that there is of the interface at the moment There's a significant part of this that is functioning (such as the space combat part I am still working on) it's just not displayed yet. All the game does at the moment is display the icons and all I've created. Give it a bit of time though. You'll soon be able to build on these and enact missions on targets. Just need to get the display set up. But if you hear music and you saw a loading screen -- then it's working as planned

So I am making a new batch of Exceptions specifically for the game. I get done with the invalid mission target exception, and it dawns on me. There's a bug in Rebellion. When the player captures an enemy, he can ensure that the captured unit can never escape by having him and an agent constantly planet hopping. For instance, if I am an Imperial and I capture Han Solo, I could train up a new Commando and have them constantly in transit by moving them between planets 90 turns away. So what can we do to fix this? Let me have some ideas here please

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/8766/rebellion2zo5.th.jpghttp://img145.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif Those look fantastic, don't they? Granted, when all is said and done I'd like this to be a Rebellion 2 not a Rebellion remake, so it might be changed. For now, though, they look beautiful! Hopefully, it gives you guys a bit of confidence in me. If not, hopefully it just brings back fond memories

Sweet! Thanks for posting Stratus. I just joined the server. Didn't even realize we had one. I'll chill out there as often as possible. If anyone has Rebellion 2-related questions feel free to join!

Oh DarthTofu, you have no idea. A long while ago my friends and I were trying to play System Shock 2 co-op. Well, push came to shove. After 3 days of trying we found this wonderful program called Hamachi which simulates a private network (or LAN). It's probably one of the most under-appreciated programs I have ever encountered. I fully, FULLY support it!

10 Year Celebration XvT
DavidAdas replied to xgmx's topic in Old Star Wars games nobody plays anymore -JI
Has it been 10 years? I am only 21 and I feel old as can be! I must have been 11 when I first played that game. Good grief! -
Wow. Yeah actually. That was exactly it! Thanks Slocket! Also, the new loyalty bars will be posted soon. Oh and uh yeah. Uh huh. They are awesome. It makes the game suddenly seem more like the old Rebellion. My ego is kinda here right now *Raises hands* Get ready for it. Oh yeah!

Alright it was finally posted! (Check the first post of this thread) Right now there is a lot we need, though. An interface is needed badly so if you have any background ideas or menu bar ideas or anything you can whip together, we could use it. Coding-wise, I'm working on the planets so I'll be okay there. I could use help with the missions class (equations?), figuring out how to determine resources, organizing the code altogether with comments, the AI, et cetera. Music is another thing. I whipped up some stuff that'll work I suppose but if you could find a way to create the originals it'd be fantastic! There's a million things we could use. And if you don't know what to do just list your talents and I'll work with you gladly!

Yes aragnis we certainly could use help I'll post all the things that still need to be done very shortly. And thank you! Hopefully, though, it'll look better with a much neater interface. But sorry for the delay. Random trip to Canada. College and all. Will get this up soon. I promise. *Sighs* I never give up though. Best thing about me.

That's hilarious, actually. I actually checked out that ad too finally. One of my friends is actually a huge Boba Fett fan. I am thinking of getting her the hoodie. Yes it's a she. And yes, she's pretty cute

Thank you, Eagle I really appreciate the support. Without it I probably would have given up a while ago. But I'm still working on it. The bar is such a pain. Having to now disguise part of it has become a huge hassle. I should have that done soon, though. In the meanwhile, I need to set up a much better screen management system ASAP. I just loaded the game on a 20" monitor and realized that my screen adjustments are all preset. That, and I realized I still hate my interface but I can work on that later I will post what I have up here tonight when I get back from work (at 9:00) so be looking for it.

I refuse to post my anagram. Too many usages of the word "Diva" for my liking. Very awkward

Grah! Sorry guys for taking so long here. Mid-terms. Finally over though. Time to get updates finished.
-
I always wondered that myself. They picked some really mundane characters to use for the game, really. What really gets me is how many unattractive women they put into the game. Grief! There are so many more cuter girls to be had
-
That's what I may end up doing. Seems a bit unprofessional but you got to do what you got to do
-
*Scribbles these down* Yeah I forgot about character special abilities. I'll have to make sure I get these into the next game.

Still haven't managed to post the thing up yet. I've been trying to add the loyalty bar to the bottom of planets so I can finish up with the ownership phase. Making a rectangle should otherwise be the easiest thing to do in Java. But when it comes to coloring it two different colors, suddenly BAM! It's the most difficult task ever. But I know that's pretty much a milestone at that point. After that it'll be putting planets into sectors. Can't wait for that! That's freaking important.
-
Ah ha! Slocket. My sincerest apologies. I had forgot to fix the case-sensitive names in the code. Here in a bit I'll re-upload it for you and we can try it again. Before I do that, though, I'm going to add just a wee bit more life to it. Maybe get the music playing. That way it doesn't seem so.... boring?
-
Oh so sorry for the delay in responding Midterms and all. I apologize for not giving more instruction here. First off, the game really isn't meant to be played at the moment. You're all free to try though if you want! Assuming you've unzipped it you just need to go to ../Rebellion2/dist/ and click on Reb2.JAR (the executable inside). There's not much to see yet though. And Moribundus, I've actually been trying to fix it so that stupid planet wont pop in front of the frame. I have it set to always front but for some blasted reason it wont go. I'll figure out some way around that soon. The character list will be fixed soon too as well. In fact, give it a week or so and you'll be able to use your main characters to recruit new ones. Or you'll have the option to build on planets finally. Either way, midterms are over and I've got time to waste.

http://www.adasgames.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/reb2.rar Friday, October 17, 2008 Updates: 1. Fixed planet names (which kept it from running off the IDE) 2. Affixed the new loading screen to the game. 3. Sorted out some of the classes and added more comments -- work in progress. 4. Added some music! To Run: 1. Download the game and extract the file 2. Open the file and go to Reb2/dist/ 3. Click on the Reb2.jar file to run! 4. Post if it does not run or a message comes up! Other Notes: The game itself is hardly finished. What you will see wont even be the final product. Please keep that in mind when opening the game. It's hardly much more right now than a glorified card game. With a bit of effort from you guys, we can complete this thing and make it far superior to its predecessor!

It's coming along for certain -- but it has slowed down. I'm down my best coder and I've been slammed with mid-terms. On the bright side I may be picking up an even better coder and exams end this week so we'll see what happens! I'm going to go ahead at this point and release what I have so far in a new thread. Maybe that will help drive some additional support, hrm? But as I said. I will never stop working on this project. May get put behind but honestly (and truthfully) it will be good to have in a portfolio when I apply to Bethesda or wherever else I want to go. I'd say apply to LucasArts but they are outsourcing their games now. *Sigh*

Sadly it's no wheres near completed yet We've been trucking through the interface which has, by all means, been the hardest part thus far. It took me two days alone just to get the right click menus to work properly and to get the tick counter to pause and such. Next we will have to finish the real-time fleet battle stuff. Then the game's AI. Then make network it. We're coming along but it likely wont be finished this year. It will be finished though, believe it

What newer games are out there that are like SW:R?
DavidAdas replied to guerre_detoiles's question in Questions from Newbies
Oh! Dude totally check out Alpha Centauri. That game is one of the best games I have ever played. -

That's the thing about Rebellion. It was pretty damn unique. You really can't find anything quite like it. The closest thing I can think of is Empire at War. I can, though, suggest some games that I find just as fun. Civilization 4 is a fantastic game, for instance. Sins of a Solar Empire is fun as well. -
Okay. I must admit guys. I had originally left the source code at home for about two weeks when I moved back on campus. Learned a valuable lesson: don't store everything important on an 8GB flash drive alone (btw they are on sale at Staples for $29.99). I've started up again though. Just thought yall might want to know
