Few questions about Reloaded and gameplay generally
Master_Xan replied to Faello's topic in Rebellion Reloaded
Just in case anybody was interested, I tried getting the source code three years ago. No go. It's been three years, so if you want to you could try again, but the only way to do it is ask. Reverse engineering, while technically possible, is difficult, time-consuming, and illegal. -
Except my computer is two years out-of-date and probably can't run this fantastic looking gem...

just rediscovered the game and trying to play after many yrs

Some more notes: 3: Shields are very hard to take out by bombardment. Especially if they are GenII or if there is more than one. That's why sabotage missions are so important; it's often the only way you can get in unless you just happen to have a spare SSD chilling in orbit. I'd take some characters with high combat/espionage ratings with your invasion fleets, if at all possible. 4: Also, Rebellion fighters are generally better than Imperial counterparts. Imperial capital ships are generally better than Rebellion ones. 5: Han Solo does NOT travel faster if he's on a ship. 8: Screenshots will vary if the person taking the shot has any mods on their version. For example, someone running Reloaded will have very different looking screenshots than somebody running the standard version of Rebellion. -
Never happened to me, but I'm using 2000 Pro. If you have a dual boot, I'd say use another OS. If not, try to figure out what was different between when you first played it, and it worked, and when you did and it had this glitch. As a sidenote, disable any non-essential background programs. No need to have any other interferance messing with things. If you can't figure out what was different (or if anything was different), you might be able to simulate a more conducive Rebellion environment. Check out some of the emulator programs used to run old games on new computers; for instance, Dos Box is a free emulator that lets you run old Dos games on windows without dual booting. There should be an emulator out there to run old Windows games on newer OSs; I haven't gone looking before or I'd tell you one. Hope this helps... EDIT: I did a quick search, and found this... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/ Microsoft makes an emulator program to simulate other OSs on the same system. Unfortunately, its only for a free trail, then you have to pay. Also, I hear rumors that you can't run anything which uses DirectX, which Rebellion does use. Not sure if this is accurate, but if you're interested you can try the demo and see if it works or not. Also, in WinXP you could right-click and hit compatability mode, which gave you some options. I'm not sure if Vista has a similar option or not... This forum may prove helpful as well. There are a few topics about emulating old versions of Windows. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=133798 (There is a search bar at the top for more threads, I put in 'emulate old windows' and a few came up). EDIT2: Here: http://forums.swrebellion.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3924 And here: http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/postt3937.html

I haven't gotten time to mess with Reloaded since I got back a couple weeks ago, but my guess is you should be able to replace the stock files with Reloaded ones outright. I can't recall if the model files contain any other information; if they do, that wouldn't be an option. In which case, you'd need to extract the model info and then plant it in the stock files. Check out the models section for a walkthrough of how to import files; hopefully you'll be able to figure it out. Sorry this is so vague. I'd try it out and then tell you how to do it, except I'm moving across the country and starting college. Don't really have much time to experiment at the moment. If you don't have it down in a couple of weeks, I'll see what I can do...

Don't know about the borg cube, but I seem to remember seeing an Eclipse running around somewhere... Check the models section (and cards too). I'll look around for it and see if I've got a copy. Also, I might mention the difficulty of making models. At least, it looks hard to me. That's why you don't see all that many (compared to the number of cards, at least).

Hmm... I wonder if anybody would be so kind as to list all the improvements and mods that I should try? This galactic map seems great, once I poke around the thread long enough to find a download link. Of course I'll be playing with Reloaded as soon as possible. Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks!

Ah, now I have a little more time to talk! Yep, went to Alaska for two years to spread the word. For anyone who doesn't know, I'm LDS (nickname- Mormon). I traveled far and wide, everything from Juneau and islands in the southeast to Barrow in the north and Nome in the west. It was AMAZING! So many good people up there... and so many 'interesting' people too! Now I'm gearing up for college; BYU Idaho this semester (that's about two weeks away). Lots of stuff to do, so I'm afraid my involvement in the forums will be a little limited, but here and there I'll get my two cents in. And I'm really looking forward to playing with Reloaded! By the way, I have a personal message which I can't seem to access. Something about archived. Any hints? Two years without using hardly any technology seems to have set me back a little... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/masterxan/Mission/moose.jpg (He's playing peek-abo with you Tofu!)

I'm baaack! And really busy too, but I'm no longer on my mission and will post when I can.

I've been sorta trying to find a copy for a few months now, as I've never heard anything bad about it except for its age... but it seems like I get distracted from my search with other games (for instance, I'm currently playing Evil Genius like its going out of style...)
-
Um... kinda like this from the first page, D16?
-
Are those the two that don't work, or is it two of the others? If those two don't work, you might check the tech support for whomever manufactures the diagnostic-card-thingy.
-
You know, suddenly my problems don't seem so bad anymore. It could just be that I'm growing wise in my old age. Then again, it could have something to do with you guys having much worse things to deal with... yep, probably that. For what its worth, I'm sorry you two have to deal with this kind of crap. I can't offer advice, seeing as how I've never gone through this sort of thing, but I still feel for ya. (Oh and Mitth, my girlfriend lives in a suburb of Minneapolis... what's your dad's business called? I might be able to drum up some business for him, seeing as how I know people in the area and am actually leaving in ten minutes to visit )
-
I know what you mean. I've never had to deal with it to anything near the extent you are right now, but on a minor scale its happened to me before (stupid sisters). What's even worse is when they do so on purpose, fully aware of how to manipulate the people around them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sure sounds like that's what your ex is doing...
-
Ouch. Dang, I'm glad that I'm not any part of the BEAK Imperium if even the Imperiator gets it this bad...
-
Look at it this way. At least she's your ex... can you imagine marrying somebody this evil? Or marrying them, then trying to get a divorce?

Hey now, not all lawyers are complete jerks. I should know, I live in a college town with a major law school. Most of the law students don't know enough to be jerks yet; some of the teachers are, but not all. To be honest, being around a law school has restored some of my faith in lawyers (though not in the system).

You want to know what's scary? I've seen all these lurkers before in other threads, except of course for PK421. (Which, by the way SOCL, he's not at his post; no pork involved). I'm not sure I've reached official spam status (not in comparison to Mitth or Tofu, anyway), but I'm throwing out some pretty low-quality posts these days.

You have six USB ports? Wow, I'm a little jealous. Anyways, all six of them are integrated with the motherboard? By that I mean no cards or wires at all? I've never seen so many integrated before (though it wouldn't surprise me if they finally started getting smart and did that). I've got two on the back, two on the front... the front two for me require wires. When I initially got the case and put my components in, I discovered the wires were hooked up incorrectly. If after doing drivers and the Microsoft knowledge base you still couldn't get two of them working, check again for any wires (especially if the two that don't work are on the front). Tech support everywhere doesn't stink. Alltel Wireless tech support is pretty good... at least, through the retail phone number they give us employees.

Erm... no. I met the girl who gave me this at a scout camp a few years back, meaning she was a leader there. And she's at least 20 years older then me. Maybe 30 years older. Though I'm curious, what all did I mention about the possible 'Mrs. Xan'? I don't even remember saying anything about her... *gets headache trying to remember*
-
Yeah, what's wrong with you? Seriously though, its because I explained each step and had the idea to post it to begin with. Math is like computer coding; comments are worth their weight in gold. (Though in all reality, I used what you had posted to jog my memory, allowing me to piece together the whole thing without finding my copy in Word. Which incidentally was given to me by a girl...)

Silly man, didn't you listen? The Battle of Yavin would be a disaster because a moon sized object randomly appears near another planet. Thus causing massive earthquakes, huge tsunamis, and other gravity-based havoc. So the rookie pilot would be killed when the building he was in collapsed under the stress of the earthquakes... but don't worry, its still a victory, as the moon sized object was subjected to the same stresses and tore itself apart before it could get into an orbit... Seriously though, it sounds like a good story (even if you did ignore the effects of gravity). Any chance of reviving it?
-
Bah, this is Star Wars. Superweapons don't have to be good, nor built intelligently. They don't even need to follow the laws of physics (having a moon sized object randomly appear in a system would cause all sorts of gravity-based havoc, as would turning on any gravity wells).
-
Most systems have a star in them, you only have to move the 'Real Death Star', not the entire star itself. And if not, then you could still guarentee that the enemy would come to you if this thing could do both; that is, be a giant factory and have a giant superlaser powered by a star.

Could this be the first of all my 340+posts that everybody likes? *makes mental note to put up stuff like this more often* Oh, and nice avatar, Mitth.
