  1. I saw Iron Man yesterday (Finally). Awesome movie, it really was. Some parts were unbelievable, but by and large it was (impossibly) not too hard to believe that the guy had made some of this stuff using only the resources he had available to him. The Mk. I Suit is awesome, just because it reveals how primative it is, and yet how amazingly advanced it is at the same time. Mk. II actually looks cooler than Mk. III if you ask me, and it looks like Mk. II is going to become War Machine for the next one. Star after the credits are over for a bonus scene, by the way. I'm slightly worried about the implications of that scene. Favorite line from the movie: I'm sorry, this is the funvee. The hum-drumvee is back there.
  2. http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a169/DarthTofu/?action=view&current=lincoln-fredrick.jpg This is from Fox News reporting on Obama challenging Clinton to a series of Lincoln-Douglas style debates. Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah. For our European members: Abraham Lincoln was the American President during our Civil War in 1860. Prior to the presidency he campaigned for the Illinois Senate position against Senator Stephen Douglass, a white man, and participated in a series of debates with the man that were renouned for their intelligence. The black man in the photo is Fredrick Douglas, a freed slave and someone completely different. It isn't nearly as funny if you don't just know it, but it's hillarious, especially seeing as the Lincoln-Douglas debates revolved around slavery.
  3. I like The Matrix, but it works better as a TV movie than a movie-movie. You just flip through the channels and watch it for a bit of mindless action and special effects. Some concepts are rather dumb (Neo can't die because Trinity loves him?) but the first one came out alright for an action movie, and I like the idea of a world that we could, theoretically, be living in without realizing it. The other two, of course, sucked hairy ones.
  4. Here's hoping Invincible doesn't suck. I'll likely pick up Sacrifice just for the sake of the collection (along with Fury and Inferno, despite my hatred for the novel Inferno)...
  5. You want a good, not-politically-correct movie? See Crash. Awesome-tastic movie about racism. Not much action, just great plot... and great music.
  6. So long as they have these as a unit I'm totally in. Do the aliens look like the ones from Toy Story to anyone?
  7. I'm pretty sure I've already posted this, but if Eagle didn't comment on it, that probably means I didn't. I'm ashamed of it, for the record.
  8. Weren't there a couple of Jedi who started out as/ended up as Sand People? Darth Krayt, Tahiri, etc? I'm going to assume that the pic of the Tusken Raider is in reference to Achmed (sp?) the Dead Terrorist?
  9. Being the only few posters isn't so bad, I suppose. You just have to look at everything in pespective.
  10. Happy birthday, SO- put down the beer, SOCL. Put it down, you need to be sober to read the post. What did I just say? Put it down, SOCL. You're better than this, come on now. Okay, is the beer away? Happy birthday, then, SOCL. You can pick up your beer again, now.
  11. ... So who's gone and seen Harold and Khumar II? (sp?) I think it looks funny, but I'm waiting for some other poor dumb bastard to check it out before I check it out.
  12. Beer is always nice, but something nicer is coming back today. In about ten minutes. You know what it is? It's Supernatural. Supernatural comes back from the writer's strike today. And that's wonderful.
  13. Santé my friend!!! If only the swiss had such a day. I thought you did- isn't it called "New Years?" Or perhaps I'm wrong- might it be "Friday, Saturday, and Sunday?"
  14. All pure gold, Mad.
  15. Chickens, MFC, and violence. Not suitable for work or anyone eating chicken while watching.
  16. Is the Rebellion CD protected against CD-burner technology? I want to try out some modding stuff, but I'm not certain of my skills, so I'd prefer to have a backup copy of the game. I tried to loan a friend a burned copy a few years back and he said that it didn't work. I'd have to get some blank CDs if I wanted to make a copy, so I figured I'd check with you lot before I went and got any.
  17. *Bangs head on wall* That was actually better than ep III. Well done.
  18. Luke is pushing sixty, isn't he? Han's even older at seventy something. He's what, thirty in ANH? It's forty years later- seventy years old. Shoot, they're really gettin' up there. It's nice to see that they aren't bothering to shoot at each other as much. Han just flies the Falcon most of the time.
  19. Happy birthday, Rob. To celebrate your B-day I finally got the high-speed Internet that my family's been paying for for several years and not getting! Going from about 200 KB/second download speed to 7,000 KB/second download speed is always nice. (Yes, you read that right. 200. It was pathetic. The upload speed was a whopping 2 KB/second before we got a new router. The old one was from 2000. Yeeeeaaaaaaaaah)
  20. Be sure to tape the show- I want to be able to say, "Hey, I know Stagehand number 3/the cab driver! That's Mad78!"
  21. One of the best scenes in the movie. A bit of swearing in that one- likely not safe for work.

    Books

That appears insurmountably dull to my eye, but to each his own- enjoy it... nerd! I'm reading Bull's Eyes and Misfires: Fifty Men and Women whose Efforts Shaped the Civil War" For a clearance book it's rather good, though it has an annoying habit of mislabeling some people in my opinion. Basically it looks at individual soldiers and leaders whose efforts helped to make or break certain battles. One fellow helped lose the Union the first battle of Bull Run when he failed to fire upon Confederate troops just because they were wearing blue- he could have killed Stonewalll Jackson if he'd fired on the other troops. One fellow won Gettysburg by noting the Confederates' poor use of cannons, which caused him to preserve shot and ammo, decimating what was supposed to be a surprise infantry attack. Very interesting stuff, but somewhat depressing- almost all of the "top-in-their-class" West Pointers turned out to be misfires, while bottom-of-the-barrel commanders wound up winning it all. I sincerely hope we don't have another war, because I'd be a poor leader in it.
  23. I'd prefer to guess foot, though knowing you, that's likely wrong. In the interest of being child-safe and retaining some faith in humanity I shall stake my official guess as "foot."
  24. Oops. My bad. I'll fix that. Hitting "Share album" ought to fix that, right? If not, I'll go ahead and temporarily change the password to SWR or something similar. Edit: It ought to be public, now. All fixed.
