  1. Tom Cruise's "ego" is as big as a Death Star. Occasionally he makes a movie I'll go see, but usually I'll wait until it hits cable or DVD. He thinks he's "God's gift" to humanity, and that to me is a big turnoff.
  2. I'm not sure this will help, but the music might be trying to play directly from the CD. I know that if I mute my speaker at game startup, everything runs smoothly. Have the speakers "on" and everything is "jittery" and slow. Sometimes the audio "tracks" (Threepio & Imp droid) don't complete whatever they're saying when events happen in the game. Good Luck!
  3. Nope, wasn't the trilogy, pardner. The trilogy had the crazy clone Jedi J'Caboth (sp?) in it. I'm sure it was the duology. The duology dealt with the Thrawn impersonator (Flim? Flin?), Moff Disra and an ex-royal guard stormtrooper. Didn't they concot some scheme about leaking information that the Bothans helped the Empire wipe out the Caasimi (sp?)? People everywhere were trying to dig up the info. Booster Terrik took his SD to Obra-skai in the Imperial Remnant to get access to their library. Talon Karrde already had a slicer working in the Obra-skai library. Talon got the info from his former boss who was "retired and reborn(?)". The former boss was on the ship the Dark Jedi comandeered when Yoda was on his tail. That's basically what I remember.
  4. Whoa, hang on there pardner. While Sullustan troops are cheap to make and have weak attack/defense stats, they are EXCELLENT at detecting and foiling covert operations where they are based. That's why they are best garrison troop for the Rebels. Mix in some Mon Cal troops (high defense stats), and that system would be a tough nut to crack.
  5. Fascinating theory ! I think I'll work on a massive fleet of corvettes and see if I can make some SD's runaway ... That would be a sight.
  6. From a book I read (I don't remember which one, maybe the Thrawn Duology?), Yoda went to Dagobah because that's where he tracked down and fought a Dark Jedi (not Sith). The Dark Jedi was killed in "the tree" that Luke eventually visits. Anyway, that's where Yoda goes in exile because he uses the "Dark Side" residue in the tree as a "screen" to keep Vader and whoever from finding him.
  7. Oooohhh Yeeeeaaaahhhh! Are there any neutral planets still about? If so, you might want to go and visit them (they could now be Imperial). If you're still getting "visits" from single SD's here and there, then there has to be an Imperial planet somewhere.
  8. Back in the late 80's the USA Network had a TV series for a couple of seasons. To get things started, when all of the aliens died in the 1950's movie, the military packaged them all up in 55 gallon drums and shipped them off. When the TV series starts, the drums (which are marked radioactive) are sent to some dump/storage facility. Of course after all of these years nobody knows what's in them. Then some dimwits spill some of the radioactive waste all over the place. This kills the bacteria that infected the aliens back in the 50's. The aliens weren't really "dead" but were in hibernation or something. Now free of the bacteria, they can "take over" human bodies. But, darn if some of that radioactive stuff didn't get on them, and now their human bodies don't last very long. They're constantly looking for "new" bodies, and trying to call for "re-inforcements" to once again take over the earth. Something changed between the first & second season, I didn't get to watch much then. The scenario basically became post nuclear war or something. Maybe Tom Cruise can star in a new TV series spinoff, and tell everybody that they don't need psychiatrists, there are "real" aliens. And to protect yourself you must take lots of vitamins and do exercise (after you join the Scientology Cult first).
  9. Vader & Palpy went to Dagobah to play Texas Draw Poker with Yoda , and reminisce about the old days. You'll never find them now .
  10. In ATOC Obi-wan mentioned that "Sifo-Dyas" disappeared 10 years prior. Did Sidious have "two" apprentices (Dooku/Tyranus and Maul)? Or was Dooku "recruited" shortly after Maul's death?
  11. Well, that adds another story conflict. If Plagueis was the Sith Master, and Palpatine/Sidious the apprentice, then was Darth Maul an apprentice to an apprentice? The clone troopers were originally ordered at the time of TPM, so Sidious/Maul were already paired as Master/apprentice. Was Sofedious (sp? Mentioned by the cloners as the "Jedi" who placed the original order) really Plagueis? My guess is that Sofedious (sp?) was an agent of Sidious, and was killed or disposed of after the order was placed to keep it secret. Jango used the "cloner" dart to kill the assassin that was after Padme. Was that done "on purpose"? Otherwise, the Jedi wouldn't have found the clone army to use on Genosis, or for that matter the coming war. I guess that's why Sidious wanted to keep up the assassination attempts on Padme ("attempt" being the key word, not actually completing the assassination), so eventually the Jedi would find the clones.
  12. I couldn't find any mention in the manual that "bombers" (Y-wing & Tie bomber) had a bombardment value. I guess we're just lucky that this little tid bit of information was "viewable" through RebEd. Any other little pieces of information hiding in there?
  13. Wasn't Dooku a Sith Lord? Then who was Darth Tyrannus? Darth Maul got sloppy and over confident with Obi-wan and paid the ultimate price. I haven't read/seen how Dooku was recruited by Sidious, but he filled the apprentice vacancy (although it already appeared to me, he would not keep the position long enough to eventually "replace" Sidious. He was too old). When Anakin came along, Sidious was thinking ahead, way ahead, to get this new recruit. If you have read the NJO series, Zenoma Sekot believed the Jedi were wrong about the Force, there is no Dark Side or Light Side; there is only the Force. It just depended on how others perceived your use of the Force, that made the distinction between good and bad. The Jedi were complacent from years without a "conflict" (the Sith? prior to the rule of two). They couldn't find Palpy in front of their noses. They couldn't tell the Senate was going rotten and that the Jedi order would fall. You could say there was "too much" of the Light Side of the Force out in the galaxy. Anakin (Darth Vader) brought balance by decreasing the Jedi numbers to be more in line with the number of Sith (not 1000's vs 2, but maybe a handful vs 2).
  14. There you go, ONE spacecraft . How many "chemical" rockets/satellites have there been? Many more. Currently, the best effective method of speeding a deep space satellite along its way is with gravity assist. Ion engines show great promise, just like the first computer. But until you can mass produce them (to get the costs down) and get them in use, upgrades will be few and far between.
  15. Try the thread "What are people's five ESSENTIAL wants for Reb2?" in the "Rebellion 2 Ideas" forum. There are many good ideas in there, and experienced troops/ships has been mentioned.
  16. I believe the term you're looking for (and somebody has already mentioned it) is "Impulse", mass times velocity. Chemical rockets have a low "impulse" value (lots of gas to be burned), ion or (better yet) nuclear ion drives have higher "impulse" but technologically, we're not quite there yet (especially economically). Consider "laser shots" in space. If light travels at ~186,000 miles per second and let's say it takes your laser canon 1/100 th of a second to get off a shoot, that "laser bolt" is 18,600 miles long! Talk about a long range weapon! The way "dog fights" are shown, or even capital ship engagements, there should NEVER be "gaps" shown between shots. By the time you see the shot, it's miles long. To the human eye, it would "instantly" appear and disappear as the trigger was pulled. For movie effects, they're shown like "tracer" gunfire so you can "see" where the shots are going.
  17. Don't worry too much. You'll get advance notice when the Empire comes a-knockin' on your door . The first thing they'll do is sabotage any planetary shields and/or batteries. Then maybe even a garrison troop or two . If you can't get an espionage mission on an Imperial system to work, try spying on your own systems that you think are targets. I do this occasionally to ferret out sabotage and espionage missions. Sometimes you get lucky and find out a fleet is already in hyperspace on their way. If there is a fleet heading toward your system, check to see if it's carrying assault troops. If not, they'll just use you for a bit of target practice. If they do ... well, you have a couple of options. If the system is not heavily defended, save your troops and move them offworld, scrap everything and leave (the old slash-and-burn trick as you retreat). If you really want to keep it, you better send reinforcements ASAP! As MDk mentioned, use decoys. If the system has a "general" in command, it will be very tough (that's his specialty, detecting trouble makers). Good luck and keep us posted.
  18. Of course a tree falling in the forest make a sound. I was there. Oh ... when no one is around ... The AI is TOO DUMB to cheat . It has its moments, but it can't consistently be competitive. I'm almost to the point of "cheating" on myself. I put 1 or 2 troops on a system, build no new shields, put no characters in "command" mode, and it still doesn't take my systems (occasionally it will). Of course I don't do this on important systems that have the "super" construction yards, training facilities and shipyards. Too bad the AI can't use "The Force".
  19. Me either. Other than other fighters/bombers, I thought capital ships were the only other target (with exception to the Death Star for the Rebels).
  20. I wouldn't trust the AI to take my pet womprat in a T-16 through Beggar's Canyon to the vet's at Toschee Station. I don't allow it to manage my troops or resources, why on earth (or any planet for that matter) would I let it control espionage missions? Let me think ... the AI controls the opposing side ... the AI controls MY espionage ... I never seem to get any useful information to exploit the AI ... but why??? Of course the AI isn't even smart enough to "cheat" and take some of my information for himself. Micro-managing is a pain in the neck, but trusting the AI .... whew, you must really trust in the Force (*** slowly whistles, shaking my head from side to side ***).
  21. Do you mean "Admiral" or "Commander"? Admirals improve fleet (capital ship) tactics, and Commanders improve fighter/bomber tactics (effectiveness and maneuverability).
  22. Let me clarify on what I was trying to say, you don't HAVE TO HAVE an equal number or mines and refineries to produce raw materials/refined materials. It definitely helps to keep things balanced but it doesn't pose a detriment to the game. Many times I've had more mines than refineries, and then end up with a raw material surplus. Than later I'll have more refineries than mines to lower the raw materials surplus to make refined materials. When your "building" (facilities, troops, ships, etc.) starts slowing down, you might even see a surplus of refined materials. So basically, mines produce raw materials no matter how many refineries you have, and refineries produce refined materials (but will be under utilized if there are too few mines). One-to One ratio is OPTIMAL! ~0.16 refined materials per day per refinery. That sounds correct to me. ~0.16 = 1/6 (one sixth), multiply this by the generic 30 days per month and you get (30/6 = 5). 5 is what the production rate is set at for mines and refineries. So the 5 is 5 units per facility per month.
  23. A couple of things to clarify: raw material points are generated by mines, refined material points are generated by refineries. Production rate for mines and refineries is stated to be "5" (I believe you can right-click on a mine or refinery, then click on STATUS). I have asked before (on a different thread) what is the actual "rate", per hour, per day, per week, per month, etc. without an answer so far. It just might be a "generic" number between 1-10, or 1-20, or 1 to ?. Also, the production of materials (raw or refined) does NOT depend on "an equal number" of mines and refineries (but maintenance points do). Basically, NO. It can be done, but not by the game. You would have to keep track of everything you build, how many refined materials each item needs, what day you start production, how long each item would "normally" take to build (if all materials were available & waiting), and how many mines & refineries you have. This sounds like it could be done on a spreadsheet, but it would definitely be complicated. Something I have observed with "galaxy overview" (at least with the mines and refineries) is the total number of items shown is "existing" PLUS what is still "in production"! When looking at the number of mines and refineries, let's say there is 100 mines and 95 refineries (with 10 mines being built and no refineries being built). In the game there are really 90 mines. As each of the mines is "delivered" to its destination system, THEN your maintenance points get updated. So, maintenance points don't get updated until facilities are "on planet" producing items. So, just be aware of how many you have (per galaxy overview) and how many of each you currently have being built.
  24. Do you mean Darth Kevin? http://img285.echo.cx/img285/2849/darthkevin0lj.jpg PS I know, my PSP skills are feeble .
  25. To clarify: the San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team in the NBA (National Basketball Assocation, an American league). Last night the Spurs won game 7 (it's a best of seven series, so the first team to win 4 games wins the championship, and it took all seven games to get four wins). The San Antonio Spurs are the Western Regional champs, and the Detroit Pistons are the Eastern Regional champs. There are fifteen teams in each region, and all teams play 80 regular season games. The top eight teams in each region then play a tourment to decide who is the regional champ. The regional champs then play each other to decide who is the overall champion team. Most people believe this is an American game, which it is mostly, but it is gaining wide acceptance throughout the world. The Spurs also have players from France, Argentina and Slovenia. Argentina won the gold medal for basketball in the olympics (defeating "professional" American ball players). Of course, several of those players play in the American NBA league. And many nations now also have NBA players on their country teams. For those who don't know, San Antonio is in Texas (USA). Which is the humble abode of yours truly, DarthTex.
