  1. Go to http://www.matrixgames.com to find out about this marvellous wargame
  2. Will drop you a line Mad78....thanks Have just heard on the news that Emlyn Hughes has sadly left us. A great footballer and ambassador for his country, and a genuinely lovely man to boot. For all my hatred of football, I have to say he will be sorely missed both as a man and a great footballer. My condolences to his family.
  3. No, the 'Squirrel Nut Zippers' are like a bizarre 30's type jazz/blues/Edwardian Tea dance band . They are FAB!!!!!
  4. Please email me the sketch.... I'd love to read it
  5. Yeah I know but use your noodle, this situation can be turned to your advantage with very little effort ( we are talking AI here ). So a natural disaster has trashed the planet. Life sucks sometimes. The planet for all intents and purposes is useless, but if you've followed Standard Imperial procedure, then the planets loyalty should be all green ( you have been using your diplomats I hope to full effect.??) Strip out any unwanted mines/resources , ensure the planet has at least one shield generator and one planetary defence system ( two of each is ideal, and leave a garrison of between 4-6 stormtroopers. Meanwhile stock up on all adjacent planets with espionage droids, Imperial Commandos and garrisons. ( you should have 3/4 Imp Commandos on each planet anyway ) Now await the invasion. The Rebels will take substantial losses but what you want is for them to take the planet. Once they have it, continually sabotage their fleet till it goes away and then the masterstroke........ Sabotage all the units until the planet goes into uprising, the people want the Empire back of course as the Empire brings Order and Stability to the Galaxy Now the Rebels have a real headache on their hands. Do they keep continually reinforcing the planet, to have troops constantly destroyed in a Star Wars version of Stalingrad, or do they withdraw, giving you back the planet and a substantial loyalty boost to all the planets you own in the Sector???? There are many options open to you at this point, but remember you are in charge of the battle now, all the advantage lays with you. Enjoy as you crush their increasing desperate efforts to find a way out of a situation they have brought upon themselves.......... I've been waiting for you Obi Wan............. ( I really must stop posting all my advanced tactics on here, one Multiplayer game will come along that I will live to regret giving away all my Imperial tactics )
  6. Are there any WitP/Uncommon Valour fans out there??? I play Uncommon Valour regularly and am trying to get to grips with WitP ( the sheer size of this project makes me sit in awe ). Any other fans of these great turn based games out there??
  7. Don't get me wrong, I WANT those ISD's asp, but early on in the game (0-250 days or so ), I am worried about sabotage etc. As soon as Advanced shipyards are available I'm churning out ISD's like they are going out of fashion Glad to see you are using similar tactics The Rebellion must be crushed
  8. It's one of those annoying features in the game that you just have to live with. It is extremely irritating at times and unfortunately the developers did not have the foresight to make it optional. A very rough guide to natural disasters is the more planets you own, the greater the chance of being 'hit'. The way to look at it though is to take a long term view of the game and say to yourself 'hey it's happened to me and it sucks, but it WILL happen to the other guy at some stage' You were unlucky though to be struck twice in 300 days Something we have to live with......like football I suppose
  9. Just thought I'd reignite this topic by putting in my own two ha'pennies worth. I absolutely loath football. My father was the coach/manager of my local Boy Scout group and to be in the team I had to be 5 times better than the average player to even be considered. I was constantly embarassed and reduced to tears ( well I was only 8/10 ), and had to enjoy years of being abused on the pitch with taunts of 'cissy', 'pansy', 'big girls blouse' from my own father. Any love for the game was thrashed out of me by the time of my early teens. I am appalled at the grotesque amount of money at all levels of the game, of constantly reading in the Daily Mail ( I read this paper because it fuels my paranoia of the world ), of 20 something thugs and hooligans being paid obscene amounts of money to kick an inflated replica of a pigs bladder around a field and the sheer mindless, adolescent tribalism that the game carries with it ie my teams better than yours, no it is'nt, yes it is, we won you lost........ad nauseaum. Its like reliving World War I in city centres all over England EVERY Saturday night. There are decent law abiding football fans, but the game is inundated with eighteen year olds who drink a pint of lager and want to take the world and his wife on. Many a football fan has made the mistake of uttering that mindless thug litany 'You looking at me......Mate' to me, and have consequently lived to regret annoying my guests and I. It is a game ruined by money and celebrity interest / status, and in the case of English teams is no longer a mans game, but is one played by over indulged, spoilt, prissy little twats, who in many cases are'nt even English, and do not act like men, more like silly little boys & girls. Why do we have constant football exposure??? To turn us all into mindless controllable morons I have seen games advertised on TV of things like 'Clash of Titans...... Sheffield Utd vs Woolagong Spartans....tonight at seven', CHRIST, give us a break!!!!!!!!!!! American Football is more interesting and is definitely more tactical, but seeing as I am not a spectator ( I take part and compete or nothing ), it's a moot point for me. Now I've really gone and done it
  10. Midnight Summer Dream by The Stranglers
  11. I still listen to the Goons they were great in their day. Not keen on Techno, prefer Goth/Gary Numan/Bowie/Alternative. Have you heard of the 'Squirrel Nut Zippers'...???? They are a brilliant band
  12. The Blood Club by Morticia
  13. This is very true and your description of this underated ship is spot on. It is as you have correctly ascertained just the old Naval Doctrine of 'Indirect Approach' with spaceships This is a mistake I took a long time to 'sort out' as well, but it was worth the agony . We all get taken in by wanting 'what they had' in the movies, but this is a BIG mistake for the Empire early on. Death Star construction is simply off the radar early on in the game as far as I'm concerned. Until you've got big shipyards churning out ships this option is dangerous. Absolutely, and this is their prime function to cripple Rebellion production early on Any other Imperials have any thoughts???
  14. Well as stated I've been wittering on about various Commmerce Raiding tactics using various ship types in other threads. I am just interested if this strategy of using single ships as commerce raiders is employed by others. It is effective against ill prepared human opponents and VERY effective against the AI. ( Ship names were just added for fun really ) I was just interested in discussing Imperial tactics and was curious to find out if this long term strategy was employed by other Imperial players???
  15. I've been wittering on in various posts about Commerce Raiders and I'd be interested to find out from other Imperials what is their favoured ship is for this most satisfying tactic. My favoured ship type for this early on in the campaign is the Victory Destroyer, not too expensive, plenty of bombardment factors and can take a 'knock'. I also use the the light cruiser as its relatively fast, cheap and effective. Ship names are the the Galactically renowned:- ISS Sulla ISS Caligula ISS Marius ISS Augustus ISS Caesar ISS Trajan Any thoughts all you Imperials out there????
  16. A four letter word begining with 's' and ending in 't' seems a more apt description. Can you still play on the Zone.?? I thought the site did not cater for Rebellion anymore
  17. Like the sketch Just have to substitute Prime Minister for President over here
  18. 'Train to Hell' by Beautiful Deadly Children
  19. What sort of classical music do you listen to Grand Admiral? I'm a Mozart/Wagner/Bach/Vivaldi/Rachmaninov/Elgar/Holst/Strauss man myself
  20. Wow!!! I did not know that !!!! I'm pretty sure it was'nt released on a budget label in the UK though ( prepares himself to be told otherwise )
  21. Its a sort of radio game show that takes the mickey out of all quiz shows......its FAB
  22. Yeah, how did it end up.??? I don't know how you've got the patience to play a game that long I bow to your superior use of the Force in playing so long If you want to see DS's and have a REAL challenge, play Multiplayer. The game goes into Hyperdrive against a human opponent, although no one wants to play with me at the moment
  23. Perhaps you have the copy of the game that we are all after the legendary 'AI Intelligence Learning Mod'. Only one copy was ever produced and sent out secretly by LucasArts, and now Rebellion players endlessly scour the Galaxy in search of it
  24. Totally agree guys, they have'nt even had the balls to re-release on a budget label through some middleman. Remember of course they are business people with no love for anything but the bottom line
  25. I'm sorry I have'nt a clue on Radio 4 is one of my fav shows
