Give up, I have the worst jokes. "Doctor, my arm hurts when I move it like this!" "Don't move it like this then." An old pirate walks through town, when, on a marketplace, he comes across a really pretty steering wheel. Just the one he wanted to decorate his cabin with. So he goes ahead, buys it, manages to get it for a good price even. With the big wheel in his hands he can't get to his wallet, and doesn't want to let go of his treasure, either, so, being the witty pirate he is, he tucks the wheel into his loose-fitting pants. At that point his first officer comes around. He looks at his captain for a while who is still fishing for his wallet, and says: "Ahoi cap'n! Do y'know ye got a steering wheel in yer pants?" The captain looks up. "Aye! It's drivin' me nuts!" Tourist to british waiter: "Give me a bloody beef!" British waiter to tourist: "Do you want some f**king potatoes too?" What do you call a fish with no eyes? - A fsh. Why did the scarecrow win the Nobel Prize? - Because he was out standing in his field.

I almost fell to the Dark Side of the Spam... I'm better now.
-
Ah, the good old days of mindless spam with Darky... the infamous bounty hunter thread... I gained more than half of my posts in that period. Ha! Anyway, post count shouldn't mean a thing. Post quality should. Look at GAT's post above. That's a well written post. VERY UNREADABLE BECAUSE OF THE BLUE COLOR, but well written. I have to agree with what he is saying, too, and I'd like to add that overuse of the quote function annoys me. No point quoting a whole post, and adding a comment that is actually shorter than the quoted text. Anyhow, I guess you'll never see me hit the 2k mark, but I hope to maintain a relatively high average quality of posting, so that I can unlurk from time to time and everyone goes "Oh wow! Look! It's Fishface, the Mysterious! I am honored to see one of his posts!"

Merry Christmas, folks. Enjoy your holidays, and have a nice 2006!

Anything can be read into any event if one looks hard enough for coincedences. It's amazing there are people wasting time to find out such things.

The giant ateroid hurtling toward Earth
AdmiralFishface replied to DarthTofu's topic in Outside Interests
More about EMPs and EMP shielding here. Note: Might be a bit high on the science-babble scale. Basically, it's not that hard to shield a system if it really needs to be protected. Electromagnetic pulses cause their damage by inducing a high electrical current into conductors and semiconductors, effectively burning them out by overheating (similar to a lightning that strikes in a power line), and if the radiation and the resulting currents can be blocked (with physically simple devices as Faraday cages and spark plugs), it's possible to greatly reduce damage. But of course perfect EMP shielding can be expensive. And I'd like to mention that the threat of EMP weaponry has already come up in James Bond movies, in Goldeneye, when London was about to recieve some EMP treatment from Sovjet high-atmosphere nukes. -
I like this too. It allows pictures to be added.

Yay! Nice sword, too, though I must say it looks a little.. plastic. Doesn't have that genuine metal shininess to it, if you know what I mean. Or maybe even too much of it. -

Nope, but I did post it there, too. I'm RiesstiuIV on Relic. Sure, please do! I never got into 3d modelling, but I'm sure you can make this look good! If you want me to produce any schematics or other views, just yell. I'm incorporating the ship into a story I'm writing, so it won't hurt to have a few more views of it. And take care of that back of yours La_forge, I sketched this with my tablet in Photoshop. The original concept came into existance in uni, as a pencil sketch. But my scanner is non-functional at the moment, so I had to create it from scratch. -

Jahled, those pics are indeed made by me. So, thank you. Krytos, the project has gone off and is taking a little nap until I get inspired to continue with it. Random starship design sketch... http://img328.imageshack.us/img328/1488/051121kerberos5el.th.jpg -

Interesting little project I had started on another forum a while ago... Taking the Star Wars story and putting it into a WWII-esque setting. Warships, airplanes, tanks, machine guns! But see for yourselves: Jabba al-Hutt Robert LeFette Stormtrooper Ben Kenobi Darth Vader AT-AT tank Dreiberg (C-3PO) Executor and Destroyer Yoodah Captain Solo -

Game Concept: Would you buy this?
AdmiralFishface replied to Stellar_Magic's topic in General Discussion
I don't think such modular, dynamic stuff would play well for this kind of game. For a simpler, X-Com type game, yes (I'd play that as well), but not for a full 3-d game that aims for total immersion into the game world. I'd prefer a well-written campaign with simply a lot of freedom over complete randomness. -

Get Allston as writer and I'll play it. Seriously though, I had something similar in mind for a 'potentially good SW game noone will ever make'. Sounds nice. -

Hint: Clicking on it in Imageshack will show it at its original size. -
I summon Yatta.

Well. That was random. I like it.

Looking for enjoyable animated movies
AdmiralFishface replied to Lord_La_forge's topic in Outside Interests
I second Titan A.E. Very nice movie, although it follows the "Hollywood-kinda movie with big names attached to it" formula. Surely, when listing animated fairy tales, The Last Unicorn is worth mentioning. Very beautiful film. I highly recommend it I'll also recommend Tim Burton's Nightmare before Chistmas. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's an enjoyable tale, pretty funny, has very good music and songs and some of the best stop-motion animation I've seen (right up there with Wallace & Gromit). Out of curiosity: In what language do you watch foreign movies, and with subtitles or rather a dubbed version (which are quite inferior to the original voice acting in many, though not all cases)? -

Looking for enjoyable animated movies
AdmiralFishface replied to Lord_La_forge's topic in Outside Interests
They are, indeed. They are also all made by the same people who brought you Spirited Away, and are all great "animated tales", as you say. I can say that without having even seen all of them. -
Two emoticons: Emperor Palpatine http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/2875/palp4aq.gif Darth Maul http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/8392/maul1vk.gif I also agree to have these used on SWR, so if you want to use them, talk to Evaders.

What song are you listening to?
AdmiralFishface replied to ElvisMiggell's topic in Outside Interests
Listening to the complete soundtrack of the Mummy Returns now, while painting. Switching over to the album Demon Days by the Gorillaz in a few minutes. -
Are you on dial-up? The only thing not working is the Graphics pack, and all that does is to make the ingame images accessable from the HD. If you don't mind loading a few kb of images, you can use Firefox. I do.

Found another interesting Online Game which offers quite some freedom of action while taking good care of its newbies and providing a way to be completely safe while offline - nice for the casual, occasional gamer like myself, but also very fit for more competetive players. It offers a trade system, a pretty large universe, a text-based combat system, some RPG elements, and a pretty good support and community from what I've seen. The game is here, requires no download, although a graphics pack can be downloaded to aid the players on slower connections (it is not compatible with newest versions of Firefox, though). The tutorial takes a while - it took me a total of three days because of the limitations of the action points one can recieve and spend per day - but it prepares you well for the game itself. If any of you are interested, I'm Tiphias Junior of the Federation.

Hmm, I can not speak for the Big Boys in the team, but, adthrawn, I can assure you that the project is far from cancellation. The story is set during the Thrawn crisis, and the characters and units will of course reflect that.
