  1. i've always regarded the ISD and MC-80 as "standard" battleships, with everything else falling on one side of the line or the other...even though the Mon cal is more lightly armed...one other thing that you mentioned was that the mon cal cruisers were less heavily armored...from what i know this wasnt true, and that the armor and shielding on the mc-80s is what allows them to stand up to SDs
  2. always fun seeing myself quoted...some nice ideas soltaris...and the idea of planetary trade could be intriquing as an optional part of the game.
  3. i think its just a desire for realism...from what ive seen many of us seem to have read many of the novels, and would like to see events like those played out as part of the game...as such we'd like to see viscounts, eclipses and clawcrafts in place of bulwarks and dauntlesses...
  4. i remembering reading somewhere that that was the original cover story for the DS...i think it was the Jedi Academy Trilogy and thats what they told Qui Xux (or whatever her name was) that the whole thing would only be used to break apart dead worlds for minerals
  5. with the ships and fighters, the in-game reaction times are also improved. I think that the various command ranks also help their respective forces discover and thwart missions
  6. and a follow up that i thought of as i hit submit...you would/could then also use interdictors to pull fleets out of hyperspace along these lanes.
  7. ...I had while playing one of CAIN's new scenarios. Including hyperspace routes in a Reb 2. The idea would be that you can't just randomly jump system to system, but would have to follow more specific routes, stopping off at various systems along the way...this would seem to more accurately reflect what i know about hyperspace travel from the literature and films. Also, it would severely reduce the threat of suprise attacks against rear-guard positions....normally this isnt much of an issue...but playing against the Empire in CAIN's galaxy of horrors, even after i had driven them substantially back into the core, imperial fleets would occasionaly show up around Yavin...probably due to the vast resources that they have, that the AI is actually willing to risk losing a fleet in a raid...but i think my idea would tend to funnel the ships and fleets and lead to more frequent and controlled battles.
  8. I read that the Rebs captured two ISDs, several defected and most retreated. I'm supposing seeing the DS2 blow, losing the communication ship and seeing Lord Vaders flagship and pride of the Navy go down would have given them a serious shaking, and aided in miss communication. Also, they wouldn't know if the Emperor had died or not and if their orders to not engage still stood or not. I'm sure they would of lost a fair few ISDs before they decided to fully engage, couple that with defections and outright withdrawls and the Imperial Fleet was devastated. Based on what I remember of Thrawn's conversation with C'Baoth, the Empire lost six ISDs between the time of the Death Star's destruction and the withdrawal. In the X-WIng series (i think it was the X-Wing Series at least) the authors say that 2 more ISDs were captured. All this apparently happened before, if i remember the story correctly, Pellaeon ordered the retreat. That's the way I remember reading it, but it seems odd for a man that had at the beginning of the battle had been an XO to suddenly be in command of the entire fleet. Even if every ship in the fleet took damage, thats something like thirty dead captains, or a major breakdown in the chain of command.
  9. I think the lesson Zahn wants us to learn is that if thrawn were in charge of anything the outcome would be different. Also, one more thing with starfighters...most of what i have read paints the rebel fighters as superior to their imperial counterparts. Original ties beat y-wings, but x-wings are in turn superior to ties. Interceptors are better than x-wings, but outclassed by a-wings. THe B-wing meanwhile doesnt real have a counterpart, with the closest being either TIE bombers or gunboats (which i dont believe are ever actually seen in the films themselves, same as the defenders that were supposed to be there). The rebel fighters would therefore be superior in quality, if inferior in numbers. This gap is further closed by the abilities of rebel ships like the corvettes and nebulon-Bs with their anti-fighter capability. Combine these things, and the fact that the early part of the battle was essentially a dog fight between the rebel fleet and the imperial fighters and the imperial advantage in fighters was probably negated by the time the rebel ships began taking fire from the death star and engaged the star destroyers
  10. My personal rationalization...accounting more for the rebels quick and steady advance from the time of endor to the thrawn crisis, is that there must have been defections en masse on the imperial side and quite a few zsingi-like admirals "going warlord"...that plus the imperial fleet being tied down throughout the galaxy putting down local uprisings, leaving the rebels free reign in the outer-rim. It would seem that they would have had to have seized a major shipyard very soon after endor, as the fleet at endor would have been hard-pressed to take on even one of the sector fleets mentioned above, and with their only sources for new ships being theft, capture, and purchase from the corellians and mon calamari, its pretty clear that they could not hope to match the Imperial fleet even in isolated engagements. Based on a map that someone posted a while back, the most likely target would have probably been either SLuis Van, or even FOndor. I have actually begun a novella based around that premise, though my college seems to think i would be using my time better writing 20 page papers for my history major, so it remains to be seen when that will actually come to fruition.
  11. All of that would tend to support Zahn's version, that the Imperial Officers and Crew were essentially imbeciles and uncoordinated masses once the Emporer was gone, or at least distracted with Skywalker. Also gives some backing for the Seat of Power Effect in Rebellion.
  12. look at the number of members of this site...that alone shows how much of a demand for this game there still is....how many games as old as rebellion would have this many people interested enough to participate with a site like this and utilize the tools found here?
  13. based soley on the fact that it looks like a gun, i'd say the bulbous thing at the tip is the superlaser...though i'm not sure...plus there was no glowing red thing on either of the death stars...all that said, i have no idea what the red rectangle is then...not least bc i never read those comics
  14. Umm, you do remember the little green guy teaching Luke in EP5 and dying later in EP6, right ? He doesn't wear a saber, but he's there. --I think he saying that Yoda is only in 2 of the three movies...not that he's only in one.
  15. able...maybe...willing...??? that could be a whole sperate issue with our friend george
  16. thanks for your help mask!
  17. I'm working on redoing basically the whole game, and I've gotten through just about everything, but have hit a few snags, some of which may have already been covered...if they have, just point me in the right direction... 1. Is there a away to alter the number of characters for the planet and character names, or are these locked in place? IE, is there a way to rename Hoth into something like Yavin IV (just an example). 2. I'm sure this has been covered, so I just need someone to pinpoint where for me...how do you load new models for the tactical mode? Can this be done with RebEd or do i need to download another program? 3. I've seen some mention of a battlestations patch, and I'd like to include three Golan defense platforms. Where can I find this patch and what does it do? Also, will it affect any of the other ships? Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some help.
  18. Independent Fighters...fighters with hyperdrive can jump into and enemy/neutral system without having to be taken there by capital ships. Variable start points/scenarios...start from several different "historical" points in the story line...ie NJO, attack on Hoth, thrawn era, etc. More accurate planets...ie, Mon Cal, fondor, kuat start with large shipyards, balmorra, and carida have troop training facilities, etc. Tactical interface for land battles...plus, combine bombardment and assault faces to reflect a type of combined arms...along with alowing fighter support for ground battles. Auto-explore option for probe droids, longprobes...when they finish exploring 1 unknown planet, it gives an option to move on to the next closest one.
  19. Haven't been able to post much since I joined, mainly because of lack of time, but maybe this will be the post that bucks the trend...as for what I do...I am working on getting my history degree at Gettysburg College, while also working as a stage manager for the concert hall here and doubling up as the equipment manager for the band...Over the summer I work for a minor league baseball team in NY...though I;m not sure exactly what I will be doing this summer...the past four years I've been in the clubhouse, but this year I am moving into operations...which means I'll handle everything from changing light bulbs to organizing and leading the security forces.
  20. with that said...the Nebulon B was too...though I'd think stealing a ship full of troops would probably be harder...
  21. from what I remember the acclamator was a KDY project, so the rebels having very many of them wouldnt be too likely
  22. i think this is what you're looking for.... http://www.gettysburg.edu/~catomi01/stats.xls (note...i did not make this nor do I claim any responsibility for it....putting it on my schools server as a site was just the easiest way of posting)
  23. the best strategy seems to be to know your enemies...which in the case of the AI is to just be aweful....just so I could see the the movie when you lose I went around leveling my own planets the other day until the only system i controlled was coruscant....and it still took the AI a while to realize all it had to do was walk right in.
