Can it be made imune to air attacks. Should we create a national fleet that is BB orienated and not carrier? What do you think? http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/2194/shot0001wa4.jpg

How cool is PSA compared to PS?
-
He, he, he - I enjoy my self even now with PS. Damn - there are so many things to learn to be able to play right ... good thing we have the topics posted.
-
I want a campaign after Pearl So how it's your PS going lately ? what was your coolest heroic battle ?
-
Hey - You are a beta tester no?! so you must know what is already in PSA. I will try to play today the free campaign. I wish I could play a campaign after pearl harbor. Is there anywere a campaign editor?
-
Does anyone now how we can merge subforums? I can't restructurate anything until I figure out how its done
-
Indeed I wonder if you guys will like it as much as I do. Plus I can't wait to get my hands on the final version.
-
Great - thanks. I will try it tonight at home. Btw Serghei told me that they fixed the torpedos range in the expansion.
-
Cool - thanks. I attack enemy bases with my subs first and then I want to retreat. I go in the battle and fire all my torpedoes - almost half of them - the other torpedo half load you can't fire. So I sunk the first enemy wave and then I exit to strategic and reenter the battle. My subs can now reposition and the enemy is way back. Now I fire the other half of the torpedoes - a real massacre. So now I want to retreat my subs.... That’s why I needed CTRL-W EDIT: Ok i'm in the metropolis with my 10 BBs - I select change modification > it opens a window ...press change and nothing happens. It keep pressing ... nothing. I can update from the other menu because it tells me that unit already made. I have researeched the radar and want to update my Colorados ... so what I am missing? Thanks
-
So I got it - I have to wait until they all exit ... it is really time consuming because I have to deply them all I can modify existing ships only in Metropolis ? Why? How do I repair damaged ships? Again Metropolis? What 4/0/4 means? I mean why they are separated like t/h/i/s and what other variations mean? Thanks, Cain
-
But this means that they will no longer attack after I exit to strategic? Like they do now...
-
So I select the units in tactical and press CTRL-W? Jess - I never knew that. Andthey will go back to the base and stop attacking? Thanks man. My replies in bold below:
-
Well I actually won. ;D As you can see I killed his last sub and get the winning message. I'm an admiral after all To reply to your question how I sunk the BBs: The first two were sunk by torpedoes (my subs were my initial deployed units and I fire all torpedoes in a swigged left right motion - almost nothing survives in that path), then I deployed my carriers and I attacked the remaining one BB on the other part of the island with all my dive-bombers. First I used one dive-bomber each to kamikaze nearby ships - one hit in the middle will take out most of the AA and then I managed to kill the battleship - the speed of the dive is also important (does more damage). After that I concentrated my remaining planes on his cruisers. He sent out one carrier that I took out with my new arrived cruisers since all my dive bombers had no bombs. Then I send my cruisers to take on his remaining ships in the other part of the island. Half way I was surprised by his second wave. He sent against my carriers most of his destroyers plus 2 of his carriers. I was lucky to have two cruisers left behind and with my subs that had left a torpedo or two I managed to take out much of his ships but my carriers were lost (*one I think in his third and last wave) and the sky was swarming with his planes. Still my cruisers were pretty well defended and they were moving away only to discover with horror that his remaining cruisers were also steaming head on as well as one battleship newly deployed. I took out his cruisers with mine. I deployed now all my destroyers to take our carriers and his destroyers. His BB took out all my cruisers so I turned tail and raced with 12-15 destroyers against his BB. They sunk it with torpedoes only to find them self in the path of his sub fleet deployed from that part of the island. Using my remaining planes who landed on the island after the carriers were destroyed I managed to spot and attack his subs with destroyers. I got lucky since I lured them to fire in my first two destroyers and pretty much avoided much of their torpedoes since I was coming around the island with the rest and almost in straight Colum one after the other. This is how I won. And also I used the terrain in my favor. I mean the island’s mountains to move my ships out of his other division fire range (they were hitting the mountains sometimes). So I could concentrate on his left forces and then move to attack his right. So I won with impressive skill and lost only the ships you see listed > Most of my subs and destroyers remained. My question for help is - what key or option do I have to press to retreat at my home base? Were it - I can't find how to order a retreat and they keep attacking. PS. It is too easy to destroy a enemy capital base: 1. Send 8-12 subs first and let them fire a volley of all their torpedoes. Wait until they hit and sunk most of the enemy defender ships. Note - the torpedoes run forever so be patient they will certainly hit more ships out of view range. If you delay your attack and wait for the enemy ships to close there is a good chance that the enemy will get reinforcements right in the path of your initial torpedo fire trails. When you fire the torpedoes fire one at 3-4 sec delay and order the sub fleet to move the fleet from left to right slowly. This way you can spread the wall of torpedoes pretty well for devastating effect. 2. Do the sub attack twice until you run out of torpedoes. 3. Make sure you have a Battleship fleet with some destroyers nearby directed to attack after the subs. Now you can massacre the enemy remaining transports, subs and infrastructure. The AI is powerless to this tactic.

What do you get when you combine Rome: Total War, Risk, Axis & Allies and Gary Grigsby’s War in the Pacific? You get Pacific Storm, a real time strategy game/action combat hybrid. I’m always afraid of these types of games because when you try to cover everything, you sometimes cover nothing. That’s not the case here! We’ll cover more about this later. I think the first thing I should mention is the installation process. This is something that I almost never talk about during game reviews. Either the game installs or it doesn’t. However, this game was a mess to install and that’s always a bad sign. I received the U.S. retail version for review, it even had the anti-theft device in the box. I put the CD in my drive and let the auto install do its stuff. About 5% of the way in, I was greeted to a viscous CTD and a reboot. This continued at various points of the install program until I copied the files to a temp folder and installed from there. I felt it necessary to point this out just in case anyone else encountered the same problem. I should also point out that this could be a problem with the game, or it may have something to do with my computer in all fairness. http://media.gwn.com/reviews_mp/824213725454ea41b13f43.jpg Pacific Storm (PS) is a game about the U.S. war in the pacific with Japan during World War 2. The game takes place between 1940 and 1948. The game provides elements of a global strategy game, tactical combat, and flight simulation. Although it may be a stretch of the imagination to consider the flight simulation aspect anything other than an arcade game. For those of you that own Sonylast’s Dangerous Waters the helicopter and Orion flight model’s seem like Lock-On’s compared to PS. Now, I do have a problem with games that try to combine different genres into one game. Sometimes when you try to be a jack-of-all-trades, you become master-of-none. However, aside from the basic arcade simulator, PS does everything else very well. You can play either as the Japanese or the U.S. in large scale naval and air operations in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO). During the real-time aspect of the strategy game, you develop new technologies, build new weapons and deploy new weapons, including nuclear for the Americans and biological for the Japanese. The war could go either way, there is no set script, other than the fact the U.S. can’t declare war on Japan without a major penalty. On the Japanese side, you must declare war on the U.S. within a year of starting the game or you will lose. Once you build up your infrastructure and war machine on the world map, there’s a lot to do here. You must build up your forces, get production going, store resources, manage fleets, assign commanders, move personnel, develop bases, well you get the idea. The world map is made up of zones and when opposing forces enter the zone, tactical combat takes place. Tactical Combat is done on a 3D map using a large selection of beautifully rendered 3D units. There are dozens of units all represented faithfully. On some of the ships you can see sailors manning the guns on the deck. There are some problems with the 3D portion of the game, including some path-finding issues next to landmasses and super torpedoes. You can’t expect to win battles by just pointing and clicking. You must take into account, ship size, maneuverability, caliber size, ship position, etc. http://media.gwn.com/reviews_mp/246929185454ea41b14af9.jpg The units possess learning abilities, although I expect that they do cheat at times. In my first campaign, the Japanese did two things. First they attacked my weakest defended bases with superior forces and second, they tried to attack my strategic bases with inferior forces. So it was clear to me what strategy the enemy was going to use. The Japanese are relentless, because they know that if you as the Americans can hold off the initial attack, they will be crushed. There is some serious micro-management to do during all phases of combat and some things are not clear when you do them. For example, some buildings and structures require two parts to be built, but it’s not clear on how to do it. There are no build times readily apparent for you to review at a glance. Some things take years of game time to build and it would be nice to review them somewhere before you commit. Fortunately you can delegate all of the more mundane tasks of managing your war machine to the computer. As it stands, I wouldn’t recommend using the simulation part of the game. Not just because of the arcade aspect, but there seems to be a lot of bugs. I couldn’t launch any type of weapon without a crash, the only work-around was not to use it. It won’t be missed as the 3D tactical battles are good enough until it’s patched. http://media.gwn.com/reviews_mp/746322726454ea41b15a98.jpg There are many things in this review I did not cover, because of the immense size and nature of the game. I’m still discovering things and I’m sure there are things that I missed. One thing I suggest is that you run through the tutorials BEFORE you read the manual, which is very well done by the way. Trust me, things will be much clearer if you do. This is an interesting title, with plenty of potential. The seamless combination of the various genres works very well. http://media.gwn.com/reviews_mp/227187434454ea41b152c7.jpg You could begin to think, “Why couldn’t other strategy/war games look like this”. The bottom line is the game is made up of three parts. Strategy, RTS, and simulation. The first two can easily be made into separate games and would probably sell real well. The flight simulation mode of the game would be in the bargain bin within a week. As it stands, the game is good enough to recommend. Wargamers and strategy gamers alike would appreciate all that’s going on under the hood. Especially in the PTO, an area of WW2 that’s often been ignored by game developers. Pacific Storm will keep you busy for hours. I highly recommend it. Review by Gus Lane. http://pcgames.gwn.com/reviews/gamereview.php/id/1056/p/1/ PS. I got the same copy from CDV and my CD worked fine.

Thanks guys - I appreciate it - I just exploited a "secure" flaw in the system and pissed-off a lot of managers, Shogun included - just to make you people happy and pressure the sales to show a realistic look at MTW2. Also they had to be really involved in the community activities to remain in the spotlight. Anyway in their desire to counterbalance my pictures they had to do more ... so in the end it was a success from my point of view. Still - how many people in the community will dare to take on a giant like SEGA - more like hold their ground. I wonder that? ... - That reminds me. I need a moderator four this sub forum. As we evolve we will grow this too. We don't have much to offer - just a relaxed and quiet place to chat about MTW2 - some prefer that - like me
-
First - I never retreat when I am in defence - plus I don't know were is that damn key and why my forces keep fighting after I exit to strategic. So anyway – I start yesterday to play the full game for the first time – historical – thanks to Lesta and CDV. I sent all my destroyers to found bases in the first minutes of the game so the japs get none. Then I start to spread my fleet in such a way so I will be able to cover most of the new founded bases and I start to send guns ammo and oil. I don’t build any new ship and cancel what we have already in progress – it’s not my style to win with numbers. It’s also very possible that the war will start before I get the chance to deploy them. The most powerful weapon in any sea war is the submarine – so I waited to research new technologies for them before building new ships (except transports). Also I’m extremely upset that I can’t build basic radar even if I have research it. I only see advanced radars for land use in the queue so the japs will attack me before I ever got the chance to build some. Btw the subs in PS are way overpowered because they can fire torpedoes that go forever and they don’t have a longer reload time. I decide to go with the wolf pack strategy and all the bases close to the enemy have 8 of them. I also have 3 fleets near the frontline, 2 in the middle of the ocean (Pearl Harbor included) and a small one at home. I also scrapped my transport convoys for any useful bigger ships. To my horror the I found out there that some useful carriers were doing pleasure cruises with the transports in peace time. It takes me some time to find how to play the game (menus) but since I’ve played the demo it’s easier. So I build up my bases and wait – and wait … I almost felt like reporting a bug that the japs will not attack. And they do finally attack - 2 planes here, 2 cruisers there, nothing fancy, I use my sub fleets as pop-up AA platforms with devastating effects. They attack the nearest new base I’ve made and were I had no BBs. And man … I’ve played 4 hours at least with a slow fps but partially acceptable none the less. Here are the aproximate numbers: United States: 2 - Carriers 7 - Cruisers 18 - Destroyers 8 - Submarines (Note* almost all of my cruisers were sunk by only one enemy BB in close combat. He got my by surprise (damn spwan areas) and there was no point in turning I imagined back then - but - Man! those BBs are almost imune at CC fire even at close range - they left it at 65% health before they all sunk and I used their hydroplanes as kamikaze as well - damn boatplanes - they blow up in a dive if they drop too fast but there is no way to slowdown if you try to avoid the AA). Japanese Empire: 4 - Carriers 4 - Battleships 10 - Cruisers 21 - Destryers 12 - Submarines 8 - Transports The japs had two deployment areas and I had only one and it was a hard battle were I had to do the most inventive maneuvers. Example: -Attack in force by air but only after I dealt with one of their main advances lines (2 BBs) so I attacked the second from behind (1 BB, 5 CC and some destroyers). I was somewhere in the middle of them near the island. -Use always one American fighter bomber plane as kamikaze to take out any capital ship’s AA – they even said banzai. The rest were bombing normally. -Use my subs as shock troops and AA platforms. -I used my destroyers as the last reinforcement I had. I took out with them his remaining wave and all of his subs. I lured them to fire against my initial 2 destroyers (one got away) and the rest of my DDs attacked the enemy subs from left. I also had some fighters remaining that I used for spotting the enemy subs (under water??) and I took them out with depth charges. In the last wave he had 1 remaining BB and DD but still they took out 5 of my CCs (damn) only to be taken out by my last DD fleet torpedoes - I had no bombers left because a large division of his DDs had pop'ed up near my two carriers. I lost one carrier in his 3'rd wave from the left deployment zone and the second on his 4 'th wave. Good thing that 2 of my CCs were stuck near the carriers and fotgoten in the heat of the battle – so I was able to make good use of their fire power. Btw his heavy ships were coming from the right near the island while most of his carriers and DDs from the left. I almost slept on the keyboard fighting but finally I won. See the results (2 pages list and I missed some ships in the middle). http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/Cain2/Pacific%20Storm/shot0000.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/Cain2/Pacific%20Storm/shot0003.jpg As for the rest of the war - I went to sleep after 1 more hour – it seems that after I exit to strategic from a base attack my fleet keeps attacking until is destroyed …grrr – how do I order them back to base after the first strike? Thanks, Cain

Pls add 1000 new members and a huge number of active topics and exclusive info and posts from the devs. Basically we had to restart from zero..... I don't want to remember...

Relax guys - CA does not deserve this bad luck - but there is not much we can do to help them. Also I can now stop posting new pictures - there is no point.

Things I would like to be addressed in the meeting: 1. Moving. Yes or no? We need to decide quickly. We can't consider to move until Fosh make's sure that Spartan's offer is 100% real. 2. Spam. What is the official forum take on spam? Are we going to allow it? There seems to be some confusion among members on what we should/should not allow. Yes we allow it but only in the bar and in certain topics. 3. New skins. Any ideas? We Need manpower. 4. Which specific games should we now cover in detail? The ones who we have acces too first and we like. 5. News forum. It needs to be updated regularly. Should we have a news forum for every game? Or just a general one? I wish we had a main page ... will see depending on how we evolve. 6. The role of moderators/admins. Should we have meeting like this more often? It is our job to lead the forums and we have to find the best way to do that. Yes - this will be great. 7. New moderators. Do we have enough active ones? (I propose Garbageben if we need more) Well at this moment we don't quite need more. But yes he can be one. 8. Current moderators. Should we have some that are mods on specific games/forums and then a few global mods? Or should we keep it how it is right now? Fosh and Ghostly usually take care of this - remember that you only have a special status with moderator powers because you are an old member. 9. Any other questions, comments, or concerns. How we can merge the topics? and subforums - we need to compact EAW's topics a bit more. 10. Evaluate the meeting. Was is successful? Should we have more? Should we have one day one time meetings or continuing meetings throughout the week? (see my previous post) Will see. Yes - they will be useful. I've been a bit busy with NFSC but I hope I will have a bit more time to restructurate the subforums as long as I find out how to merge them

http://pff.swrebellion.com/index.php?topic=3563.0 I think you guys never seen this until now... As for Spartan offer - Fosh is looking into it- checking it. I'm sure he will explain better his offer.

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=67106 Auchhh - this means that there is a good chance now that the game will make it on the torrents before the actual release. OMG - I feel like MTW2 has been cursed. Let's ope for the best.

Thanks for the help - what this website option gives? is it something similar to this? : You must understand that we are faceing extintion here in a couple of months so we must investigate all our options. Our current host's slow resopnses to our needs and their human errors have contributed quite a bit to our downfall. Our only option is to become a sort of multi-gaming forum/site and with a bit of effort and connections inside the game industry - we may just become that. Will see.
