Okay, this subject is just too confusing to bear. I've been trying to find definitive information on the types fo Mon Cal cruisers and their functions. I've wanted my Rebel fleets to be primarily made up of Mon Cal ships rather than just the single "Mon Cal Cruiser" in the original game, meaning that I've changed the Dauntless Cruiser to the MC-90 and I've also included the MC-40. I'd also like to replace the CC-9600 and the CC-7700. Well, then I saw Mask's wonderful MC-80b model, inspired by the Mon Remonda, and I thought I'd try to figure out a place for it. But, as the Bard would say, "there's the rub". Starwars.com claims that Home 1 was an MC-80, not an MC-90, it doesn't specify what the "anonymous winged Mon Calamari Cruisers" are, and is completely useless in differentiating between the other types. I've found info on the MC-40, but everything else is so contradictory (fan sites, XWA encyclopedia, etc.) that I can't even come up with a decent description, much less justify the presence of more Mon Cal Cruisers than I already have (essentialy the "Light" MC-40, the "Medium" MC-80, and the "Heavy" MC-90). The theforce.net's technical commentaries are of little help in this area, also. Anyway, my point is that I am no scholar of Star Wars, and I was wondering if this confusion regarding the Mon Cal's was the norm, or if I'm just looking in the wrong places for information. It almost seems that the lame excuse of "no two Mon Cal ships are the same" was created to cover up all the boneheaded information out there, despite the fact that of the approximate twelve Mon Cals at Endor there appear to be only two different types/classes (in which case I'm outta luck). Thanks all!

Hmm...no luck. I even replaced the updated tactical.dll with the one from the cd and started over. Now, comparing the _logfile's, it appears that the MC-90, MC-80b_v2, and the Home1 models didn't load; just their textures. However, when I attempt to manually load the models in the 301 file, I get the error message that it 'cannot rename the original file' and that the save is aborted. Interestingly enough, I CAN load the Dauntless model using the Model Loader program. Oh, and the galaxy background didn't work, either. Same problem. Perhaps my computer just hates me.

D'OH! No, I didn't rename it. I'll give it a shot. As for the logfile, I neglected to check it. I'll run it again and see what it says. However, the error message I received was when I tried to manually load everything with Reshack.

Impressive victory, sledneck! Although, it sounds like you're yet another person to experience an A.I. 'hiccup'. On top of that, you could've been dealing with 38 fighter squadrons (10 for each BBC, 6 for each Liberator, and 6 for the Escort Carrier), which means they attacked you with just over half of their fighter complement; that's a nice break! I've had somewhat similar results playing as the Alliance. I had a system with about ten squadrons of X-Wings and a Y-Wing squadron or two when an Imperial fleet jumps in featuring an Impstar, three vicstars, a carrack and only three or four TIE fighter escorts. I immediately jumped on the carrack with the Y-Wings and X-Wings once they'd vaped the TIE's. I think I lost only one Y-Wing squadron before the carrack was destroyed. Then I just worked my way up the ladder, taking out all three vicstars one-by-one. Then I attacked the Impstar, although once it's shield recharge dropped one level it turned tail and retreated. I was left about six X-Wing squadrons. It was interesting since they usually retreat once the fighter screen is eliminated, not after they lose three capital ship.

Hmm...and just what was the translation on the screen in Vader's shuttle?

I was reading through my copy of The Last Command graphic novel compilation last night (looking for decent pictures of Rukh; I despise the version of the Noghri used in Rebellion and in most other pictures. The ones by Edvin Biukovic are much more appealing, IMHO) when a small pun caught my eye. It was during the scene in which GA Thrawn is attacking Coruscant with the intent on releasing the cloaked asteroids. An escort frigate (Nebulon-B) collides with one of the asteroids, and a Rebel technician states that the ship's name is Evanrue. Now, I haven't confirmed the name in the novel, but it suddenly occured to me how much of a pun that name is. Now, we're all familiar with the 'Behind the Scenes' origin of the Nebulon-B; that it's inspiration was an outboard motor. Well, Evanrude is a popular brand name of outboard motor for small boats. Well, at least it is here in Texas and elsewhere in the U.S. Anyway...small chuckle. Thought I'd share. You can go about your business.

Well, you can't blame a man for trying, right? Ah, well. Just that much more reason to look forward to the TC. Although I would be very interested in any screenshots you'd be willing to share to tide me over.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - The Television Series

Not to mention all the beautiful fleet pictures we'll be able to extract from 'em, rather than the grainy ones available now. -
Oh, I've been lookin' at 'em, that's for sure! I just haven't gotten up the courage to change 'em yet. Well, that and I'm pretty happy with the fighters as-is; I mean, most battles you don't zoom in enough to really see the fighters. It would be cool if you could use a .gif to create the illusion of motion in the fighter, or use a sprite that changed in relation to the designated target. I.E., the fighter would bank/turn a certain way depending on it's relative position to the target.

That's what I needed to know! I was just afraid that I'd build one in the Rim, set it to be delivered to a vital system in the Core in the 'build window', and then not be able to get it there. On an unrelated note, I attempted to load your new "galaxy background" picture for the tactical view. Your instructions were simple enough, but I received an error message saying that it was unable to rename the resource and could not save the .dll. Any clue what I'm doing wrong? Once again, many thanks Mask!

Thanks Mask! I'll give it a shot this evening.

I've loaded the Golan 3 card by Eville Jedi/EW as well as the new model. I have yet to encounter it, but I can see how it would be a tad...unbalancing if allowed to move about like a capital ship. After seeing the "Battlestation" patch, I quickly downloaded it, but I have a question about it that I'd like to have answered before I try it out. Since it makes it so the specified ship slot cannot be moved either in the tactical or strategic maps, how does this affect it when it's built? Can you still build it on one system and send it to another, whereupon it cannot be moved, or must it be built in the same system in which it is deployed? Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks!

Another question: You know the picture that comes up whenever a unit/starfighter is deployed to a capital ship? The one that, for the Rebels, looks like an adjusted picture of the Home 1 docking bay? Where is that picture located for both the Rebels and the Imperials? Or is that the "Alliance Fleet :132" & "Imperial Fleet: 133" entries noted by Mask?

Speaking of Vader's body, have y'all ever seen this: http://www.theforce.net/swtc/injuries.html over at tfn? Whether you care or not, it's impressive that GL would put that much detail into a frame that most fans will never see. -
Excellent Site, Mask! It definitely lives up to the hype! Question, though: I assume your models are the same ones found in the downloads section here?

Ooooo!! New models for the Assault Frigate and the boxy ski-ramp...ERR...Bulwark Battle Cruiser? {drool, drool} Okay, whom do I have to bribe to get a copy of those?

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - The Television Series

Yeah, I heard some rumblings on TFN last week about Peter Mayhew signing on for Episodes 7-9, but it was kinda brushed off as rumor. Still, it would be pretty cool to have it happen, although I think they'd do better to focus on post-Episode VI rather than what happens between Episodes III & IV. But I guess you can put in more Jedi that way, and you don't have the problem of aging actors trying to fill their old roles. -
Finally! After mooching all the 1337 cards I could find...

Ooo. Well, I tried to keep track of where I got all of the images, but that's great advice for future uploads. -

I agree with Mask. SotE fills in enough continuity gaps that I practically consider it canon material. And while this may get me permanently banned from the forums here, I am of the minority opinion in that I actually liked Dash Rendar. Sure, he was essentially another Han Solo, but I thought he was a cool, if somewhat underdeveloped and shallow, character. -
Is there any other country that practices it? Is there even an international organization like the FIFA for "US American football"??? There is if you count NFL Europe. emphasis mine I can see you've never experienced the rabid fanatics of respective NFL teams. There's a reason that The Super Bowl has nearly become a 'holiday' to rival Christmas in both viewership and comsumption. Granted, there's never been any fatalities resulting from a bad call on the field (all too common amongst die-hard soccer fans, from what I've noticed), but Americans tend to identify more with their sports teams than the state they live in. I.E., when asked to describe themself to another American, they are more likely to say "I'm a Bears fan" immediately after "I'm from Chicago". Or in place of it. Viewership for NFL games has steadily grown over the past 20 years, and shows no signs of stopping, unlike the viewership for NHL, MLB, and MLS. It's even gotten to the point that there's frequent discussion that American Football should now be known to have supplanted Major Leage Baseball as "America's Pasttime". And the sad thing about it, too, is that a lot of Americans see soccer as a sport for their kids (ages 5-12) to engage in until they are old enough to play basketball or football. Now, I lived in Spain for three years as a military dependant, played soccer for my high school, and routinely got our butts kicked by the local teams. I've experienced the fervor and skill people of other nations have for the game, and I'm in awe of it. I just don't see that kind of passion for the sport ever taking root in the US.
-
I still play with my high school buddies, although not nearly as often as we used to. I even got my wife hooked on playing. But it's more of an excuse to get together, catch up, and drink copious amounts of adult beverages. We tend to spend more time blasting each other in Halo these days than D&D gaming...that is, when Valkir and I aren't having a marathon Rebellion LAN session.
-
Yes, but that's precisely my point. We Americans understand the difference and politely differentiate between the two (three if you include Australian rules football, and four if you count Rugby) when discussing the sports, rather than derisively dismissing the sport of (American) football by saying its name with our nose all scrunched up, like most Frenchmen, as if even mentioning it evoked a bad odor. Now, no one here would ever do that (it must be all the fine dutch blood ), but a little sarcasm now and then helps stir the blood...keeps things fresh. As for citizens of the US being confused about Soccer vs. Football...well, you call it like you see it. It's always been Soccer and it's always been Football. Besides, we suck at Soccer. I mean, when was the last time a US Team won the World Cup? That's what I thought. And the sad thing is that Joe American doesn't care, either. But we'll kick the world's a$$ in Football.

Okay, I've heard the rumors, read the reviews...but I can't access your site. I always get a popup and a "Page Cannot be Displayed" message. Are there any kind of browser changes I need to make on my end?

Hmm...musta missed this thread the first go around. Jonathan Geographic Information Systems Digital Editor I work with maps. Whee. San Antonio, Texas Wife, 3 yr. old, 9 mo. old Hobbies: Lord of the Rings, D&D (Pen & Paper; I'm always the freaking DM), Computer & Console gaming (Halo, Rpg's, Co-op games), reading, hiking, coaching YMCA football (that's American football for all you confused Europeans ), playing with my kids.

I don't think anything is wrong with the original, per se. After all, that's what drove us all to this site in the first place, right? I just think that everyone has their own preconceptions about what's supposed to be in the Star Wars Universe. So while I'm sure Sarin Virgilio (sp?) is really a great guy, pilots a mean Nebulon-B, and makes for a great "faceless starship captain #1", he's not someone who inspires a person's "give a squat" meter. Ergo, they use Rebed or Reshack to change him into a character they'd prefer (or should've been there to begin with). Likewise, there are some who just scratch their head when seeing the ship types that were included, or shudder in horror at the bad 3-D modelling job. So they fix it. In short, they make the game a more enjoyable experience for themselves, fixing perceived deficiencies as they see fit. As for playing with others, that's what the "Load Settings" feature is for, right?
