Looking for some Linux help
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
Unfortunately when making a Live CD you have to Chroot the working directory for the squashfs file structure. I know it wasn't an issue with running it as root as I was able to get it working fine with UCK (though UCK undoes my hard work by deleting the /home/username directory once it starts recompressing the file system). I've decided simply to go with Wine, which works fine apparently. My only reason for wanting to use Cedega is the fact that it's completely GUI, and therefore much easier for the average user to use. Now I just have to get Reconstructor to modify and compile the resulting ISO correctly, or else figure out why I have no top and bottom menu bars... -
I've been extremely bogged down with school of late, and with one project in specific. I've been trying to create a live CD with Cedega and StarCraft installed, but I've had two road blocks. The first was using UCK. UCK is suppose to make the process of customizing a live CD easier, and it does. However, it has a nasty habbit of deleting the /home/username folder when it recompresses the file system (which does me no good since that's where Cedega installs). So, I went about doing it manually. Now I have another issue: Cedega does nothing but error it's ass of. Here's what I get: root@ubuncraft:/# cedega /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/gddb.py:24: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012. import gddb_parser /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:72: GtkWarning: could not open display warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning) /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: Warning: invalid (NULL) pointer instance self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: Warning: g_signal_connect_data: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE (instance)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: GtkWarning: gtk_settings_get_for_screen: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: Warning: g_object_get: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: GtkWarning: gdk_pango_context_get_for_screen: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_font_description: assertion `context != NULL' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_base_dir: assertion `context != NULL' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: PangoWarning: pango_context_set_language: assertion `context != NULL' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: Warning: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: GtkWarning: gdk_screen_get_display: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") /usr/lib/transgaming_cedega/p2p_gui.py:78: GtkWarning: gdk_keymap_get_for_display: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed self.widgets = gtk.glade.XML(GLADE_FILE, None, "p2p_localized_msg") Segmentation fault (core dumped) As the system's name would suggest I'm using a Ubuntu release (Xubuntu 7.04), and I know it will install, I just think I'm missing somethig here. I've already posted on the Cedega boards, but they're practically lifeless, so I'm hoping one of our resident Linux gurus might be able to lend me a hand.

This disturbs me somewhat. I'm pretty sure that everyone capable of doing it signed a treaty saying they wouldn't at some point in the past, mostly becauce everyone knows it's a bad idea. I'm not one to get political generally, but has this administration simply given up on subtlety? "Ah, screw it, we're out in a bit anyway. Let's just do all the things we wanted to!". Ugh...

Hmm, it seems to work alright for me. Are you sure you're not having link issues again?

That sounds about right. That'd be about ten percent of our Air Force right there. I've been pestering people for the past two weeks to get their poppies on; it's really quite sad how few people care about this. I think I've lost four poppies so far, but I don't mind donating $8 to our veterans. This is an offical list of all of Canada's Victoria Cross winners, the highest military medal in most Commonwealth countries. I'm actually surprised at how few people there are on that list.

This is a modern take on what happened in the original comics, and pretty much identical to what happened. In the original comics, while testing weapons in the field, Stark's convoy was attacked, a piece of shrapnel lodged in his chest. His captors installed a pace maker (more advanced than your standard pace maker though. That's what the glowing thing in his chest is) and told him to make them weapons. Instead, Stark makes the first Iron Man suit and uses it to escape. He's humbled by his experience and designs and constructs the Iron Man suit we know today. I think back then Stark was in Vietnam, so they've pretty much just taken him to Iraq or somewhere similar for this one.

That's not the voice of Iron Man, Tofu, that's from the Black Sabbath song "Iron Man", which is being used as the theme for the film.

Oops, I wasn't even thinking when I posted it. I trust no one is offended (else I'll link to it).

I'm pretty sure the Wii uses something similar, however the PS3 uses game-specific tags... not that there are any worthwhile games for it yet.

The thing you have to remember when watching George A. Romero's films is that they're more than just zombie movies, he making a political statement in all of them. I can't do the concept justice, so just look around for interpretations and I think you'll get that plot twist a bit more.

Inspired by the "SDSD" I thought I'd share this chart. I love that the Empire does ships on the scale that other's only do space stations.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Grand_Admiral_Thrawn's topic in Outside Interests
Yup. the second season just wrapped up last Friday (September 29) and the episodes were available for purchase on the following Monday. Since BBC4 isn't available here I've been downloading thim. (I have since ordered both seasons on DVD, along with the unGodly shipping costs, from the UK). Some other good news is that there will soon be an American version of the show on NBC, much in the way The Office was ported over here. I can only hope they don't ruin it. They were lucky enough to get Richard Ayoade to reprise his role of Moss for it as well! Those who haven't watched the show should definitely look into it. A bit back on topic: much turkey was eaten, stuffing stuffed, and cranberries enjoyed. Today I'm enjoying my holiday Monday. -
I just wanted to wish all my fellow Canadians a happy Thanksgiving! Try not to gorge (too much).

Procrastination - Official Guide to... [Poll]
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to budious's topic in Outside Interests
I'm a HUGE procrastinator. Doing homework the night before/day of has become habit (and not a good one). It's definitely a cause of stress for me. Occasionally I fight it and win, but those are rare. I'll be sure to vote in the poll later. I'm doing something else right now. -

Bit of coarse language on this one http://master01.spikedhumor.com/127288/127288_62el7wots3_1_vw.jpg http://master01.spikedhumor.com/127348/127348_natural_1_selection_vw.jpg http://master01.spikedhumor.com/127072/127072_2284_1_vw.jpg Apparently this and this become more true with age? EDIT:My list keeps getting shorter as I browse through all the ones Def has posted.

Generally I stick to a few pints, unless it's a special occasion in which case I've been known to do a few shots (I'm hoping the pictures from my birthday don't appear on Facebook any time soon ). I have been known to have a "Double J" from time to time (Blue Carocco, Raspberry Sour Puss and Sprite).

Heh, I do all of those things, but from my computer. Sure, I may not be able to play the same games, but there's comparable games on the PC. The bonus: I can do ther stuff on it too (without having to use one of those annoying on-screen keyboards). I just don't get console gaming these days.

International Talk Like A Pirate Day
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn replied to Darth_Rob's topic in Outside Interests
Ah, I love that song. Almost as good as "The War of 1812" (though that's obviousley not pirate themed). I'm looking forward to confusing the hell out of the waitress down at the pub tomorrow night with some pirate lingo (though I doubt I'll be brave enogh to call her a salty wench, or anything close to that). -
It might depend where you are, but here a pistol is considered a restricted "firearm", as are various other weapons. I think you're thinking of a more detailed breakdown of weapon types. Firearms are also often referred to as small arms in war (basically anything smaller than a machine gun).
