You see, bridge shields were apparently down and the A-Wing succeeded in crashing through the viewports, killing the bridge crew. The secondary bridge couldn't react in time to save the ship (probably Imperial overconfidence...again) and thus it was pulled in to the second Death Star because of the proximity to its gravitational influence. I'm all for tradition: the regular Star Destroyers for the Empire and the Mon Cals for the Rebels. I say "regular Star Destroyers" because there is a controversy over the ships class to either being Imperial-class or Imperator-class.
