  1. Sounds good to me
  2. Thanks guys. It was pretty uneventful, but I guess it could have been worse. Maybe we will all have a good Valentines day one of these day
  3. Yes, ignore the fact my currant releationship is crap and utterly meaningless, and surf the net BOLDLY!!! Afraid I can't meet you DC for wine and soft music, I can't get over to your side of the pond due to an abject fear of flying, without being able to smoke; which is wierd given I earn money as a tree surgeon. But nothing in life is easy, is it . Enjoy yours though if you're out and about. M78: One day my friend... Maybe one of these days I will just have to come over to your side of the pond
  4. Happy Valentines Day to all my SWR men (or lurking chickies)! Does anyone have any plans? I don't so I am open for dinner offers
  5. I know Sorry about that! I still pock my head in and read, but typing is usually the last thing I want to do, since I do that all day as it is, lol. I haven't, nor could I ever, forget about you guys Although I will admit to have been avoiding a certain someone from this site afer he made me feel quite uncomfortable!
  6. I noticed yesterday that I have 50 invites too!
  7. Jackson's Character Dies in 'Star Wars' Is this really news We all already knew that he has to die, since the only Jedi that live are Obi Wan and Yoda. I give this news story a der factor of 10!!!
  8. I can't get the gollum one to work
  9. Here is a cool picture I was sent. I can't tell if it is a composite or not, but cool none the less: http://www.dinochick.com/orig.jpg
  10. Here are some more pics that a friend sent me tonight. The one called "theend" has Pademe on a table surrounded by droids in the background with Obi Wan and Yoda in the room. So a few of these are not from the current trailer. http://mail.streetfire.net/ListSharedFiles_G.aspx?id=D844220E-DD8A-4648-970A-024ACF32D9E0 This has me even more excited to see the movie now!
  11. Hi, glad to see another Geologist around
  12. I have to agree with you. The world and the minds that "controll it" makes it all sick to me and makes me want to move to Marse sometimes if I think to hard on it LOL OMG so that is how my kids are going to feel one of these days, interesting! Very cool about your parents they sound like cool people. What university does your mom teach at? Did your parents meet in college? When I consider myself a geologist (rather than just a paleontologist) I would consider myself to be more of the sedimentary/stratigraphy side of things.
  13. This is a very dull comment without to much thought. What profit is there in...errr...clearing up the rubble of lots of third world people? Why help anyone anyway. I say let everyone fight thier own battles and if they survive, they do, and if not, they don't. That is the way it has been for millions of years in animal kingdom. Why change things now
  14. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!
  15. Wow, you have really got to watch the trailer of Willy Wonka to appreciate what I am about to say. It looks totaly creepy, like a weird acid trip (not that I would know ). In the past I have not always liked Tim Burtons films, and Johnny Deep looks truly deranged and weird in this film. I am not sure what to think of it! I loved the original, so hopefully this one will be good and the oopaloopas will have better voices than the voices that sing in the trailer. Trust me, you need to watch the trailer! I am also looking forward to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I have never gotten around to reading the books (it something I would like to read to my kids someday) but I did watch the animated versions when I was a kid and loved all of the animal characters. I hope that they can pull it off enough to make it work! I think that is has the possibility of either being really good or really bad. Hopefully it will be good!
  16. Glad your mom liked the model! I didn't know you had a geologist int eh family, very cool! What kind is she if I may ask? As for some of the island, yes, several of them were entirely covered by water. Some are less that 3 feet above sea level and were completly washed over, but supprisingly there was not a great loos of life of these islands. "I've read a little about the effects on the Maldives and I think some of the atoll islands have simply disappeared, but there were not many people on these. Also, I do believe Male was flooded; but it is still amazing that it was not completely wiped out. Perhaps it is because the construction of buildings on the island is stronger/more substantial than in Indonesia, Sri Lanka etc." Here is what a few of my friends have been saying about the situation: "I heard an interview on NPR yesterday with the Minister of Education of the Maldives... He's now also in charge of the emergency response effort... he had flown over several of the smaller, outlying islands and noted that nearly all structures were gone.. said that they would have to rebuild approximately one third of all dwellings.. although the initial loss of life was not as great as might be expected, they have a critical shortage of drinking water since all fresh water comes from desalinization plants... and most were destroyed by the tsunami. " "The effect of the tsunami probably was mitigated because the waves broke at the edge of the fringing reefs. The islands would probably still be flooded, but is normally not the flooding that kills people and destroys building, it's the power of the beraking waves. I suspect this is also the reason the effects were so mild in Bangladesh which is also very flat delta country with shallow water well offshore."
  17. Grand Moff Paul Conway: Sounds like you are having a rough time with your kidneys. I know how bad that can be, my sister onlyhas one that works. Know that are in our thought! Get to feeling better soon and we will try to keep you entertained in the meantime! We are all pretty good at that Dinochick
  18. I know that bits and pieces of these have been on TV, but it is interesting to watch the entire video. http://68.98.153.83:8080/tsunami.wmv http://homepage.mac.com/jlgolson/sri-lanka-tsunami.wmv http://homepage.mac.com/jlgolson/patong-beach.wmv I can't believe there were people actually standing on the beach just watching the waves roll in . I know that there was really no where to go, but gee .... And the sounds, just listen to the background noise of the roaring water, breaking glass, and debri being tossed about! And check out this model of the tsunami : http://ioc.unesco.org/itsu/templates/itsu/images/animation.gif
  19. This is just a horrible thing that has happened. It is to bad they did not have more early warning stations in the area, so may lives could have been saved. As a geologist the science behind this earthquake is just amazing, but it is really hard to pay attention to that part right now when so many are at such a loss. My office mate is from India and as soon as I heard I called her up to make sure that all of her family were ok, which they were. I only wish in times liek these that I had the ability to go aover and help them out, even if it is only handing out water and helping to clean up. Every little bit can help and the sooner they get thing cleaned up the sooner they can avoid many more deaths due to water pollution and sicknesses that can come on the heels of an event like this.
  20. When She Loved Me and from Toy Story 2. Sarah McLachlan sings it, and it is from a doll's perspective, watching her owner grow up and forget about her. Its terribley sad ! If you haven't heard it you should try to find it. I am sure that most girls can relate to it (although some of you guys probably won't be able to relate to it, lol ). Maybe its just b/c I am depressed lol! Who knows... Here are the lyrics if anyone is interested, lol: When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart And when she was sad, I was there to dry her tears And when she was happy, so was i, when she loved me. Through the summer and the fall, we had each other, that was all Just she and I together, like it was meant to be And when she was lonely, I was there to comfort her And I knew that she loved me. So the years went by, I stayed the same And she began to drift away, I was left alone Still I waited for the day, when she?d say "i will always love you." Lonely and forgotten, never thought she?d look my way, She smiled at me and held me, just like she used to do, Like she loved me, when she loved me When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful, Every hour we spent together, lives within my heart When she loved me.
  21. So, do any of you have a favorite holiday movie? Or one that you just can't stand to see one more time? I would have to say my favorite movie is White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kay. I also really like the old stop-go rudolph and santa cartoons.
