new tool:Star Wars Rebellion Data Editor (swrde)
Tsunami replied to errantone's topic in Rebellion Editing
I have been looking for quite some time, but all previous download links appear to be dead. Does anyone know where I could get SWRDE from, now? Or maybe upload the latest version to swrebellion.com? -
I have not seen Gank for a long time, but the screenies of his new Assault Frigate model look awesome. The cards are making slow but steady progress; the models will follow. I hope.

Yes there is, with only one possible change left. But beware, it's not for the public to know! 'Patience you must have.' Some interesting things about the ships: - the Dark Force is nothing to mess with - enough types of Mon Cal ships to make even freaks happy - many EU ships of that timeline never seen together in a Star Wars game before... - re-balanced stats to more closely resemble the ship's XWA stats and role in books etc. - each ship will use a new model. Some are complete, some are not. It will take time Geez, I should never go into commercials...
-
I think we have enough personnel (pun intended). Keeping the group at a reasonable size is most important for coordination not geting out of hand. We will be able to see progress on character cards soon, as the backgrounds are now operational (finally! )
-
Since we are managing the cards via e-mail, I thought I'd just give some sorta status report: Stats complete - need testing though. Pics for 11 cards finished - some texts, too. Fighters - not a nick. Maybe we pick up some of Mask's.
-
The stats are very complete thus far, but without any ingame testing. Some things are very hard to predict or calculate. Only time will tell.

"Hardwired" capital ship slots and funky card load
Tsunami replied to Texas_Fett's topic in Rebellion Editing
This has nothing to do with the RebEd issues; it's jsut about the ships. I believe that the Alliance Escort Carrier is indeed the Quasar-Fire Class Bulk Cruiser. If you read the description of the ship in Solo Command, it is described as great triangle, with a teardrop shaped command pod at the front and a boxy fighter hangar at the back. I think it is also very likely that Thrawn meant this class of ships when he talked about the rebels using 'modified bulk cruisers' as fighter carriers. Just for your interest. -
There is another way to multiple shots (not blasts): I noticed that in the Warlords TC, all ships fire multiple shots in multiple directions. It has something to do with the rate of fire. Certainly not what you hoped for, but another way to make fights less static.

Lots of members, few votes on all the created cards
Tsunami replied to JessyGiuliani21's topic in RebED Cards
Geez, it's just like electing a new president... Although Pucho is not as easy to buy as Florida... There is so much crap in the Cards section... maybe we should suggest to Scath or Igor or whomever to open a section with "not serious" cards like all the ST ships. -
Strangely, even Jedi Masters with a lot more force strength than 120 regularly get killed by Vader. Well, he is a big daddy and the greates Jedi hunter in known space. The calculations are odd nonetheless.

Well, I do not know what the guide claims, but the SWTC claims the Allagiance not having such stuff... Of course, since the Star Wars universe scientists were to dumb to invent beaming (the ST transportation, not on the face, mind you), the Allegiance needs some hangar bays for shuttles and even freighters (hah, try supplying several thousands of beings with shuttles packed with food...). I know you do only conversions with changes to details to reduce the polycount, but could you maybe change the hangar bay around a bit? Just so it is obvious that it's not a standard bay; maybe even split it in two narrower ones or something. BTW, the new star background looks nice; I was about to send a PM about it when I saw the Allegiance scrren shot, but luckily I found the post before I pressed 'send'.

I think our 'planets' are going to be 'systems'. So in the core sector we have Coruscant, Pyria (insted of Borleias) etc. Corporate Sector, Deep Core (Koornacht Cluster?) come to my mind, too. Was this your path of thinking, Trejiuvanat?

Think about how bad Master of Orion 3 is; the tactical combat is even uglier than Rebellion's, and Rebellion is four years older. Space strategy will look more like Haegemonia or Homeworld than like Imperium Galactica or MoO 2, although with Haegemonia's and Homeworld's quality I cannot say that I am displeased... The Homeworld 1 Star Wars TC looks pretty nice, to come back to the topic of models.

Thanks for the pics, I'll start the Allegiance Card soon.

LucasArts has had a real fall-from-grace. Up to XvT, every LA game was very good (except for the Indiana Jones Desktop Adventures), but with the whole Episode I crap and fast released games to make quick money with just the title, they destroyed their whole reputation. The new Indy games are good, but they are not up to Indy 3 and 4. Grim Fandango and Monkey 3 were also good, but Monkey 4 was not impressing. And of course there was Rebellion by Coolhand Entertainment. I like the game very much, but think about how much better it could have been if they had been more motivated and had had help from fans like us to make it closer to the real Star Wars...

I thought about that when making my shipstats; some values had to be altered to fit into this balance thing. A Carrack Cruiser with a shield value of 50 would be no good... On the other hand, I gave ships with low shield values better regeneration; ion cannon strength was lowered by more than 50% ( since they destroy equipment permanently and do not only disable it temporarily) and repair values were greatly increased.

Your information on the Republic is not entirely correct, I fear. TheForce.net is wrong about the length; it's 1040 and not 1250 m (source: official FAQ). Two Republics cost as much as an ISD (II?), and have one third again its firepower (4/3, so one has 2/3 of an ISD-I's firepower). Yes, it's nitpicking, but I like to be accurate.

I have similar problems with the Overlord and Allegiance. RebEd crashes with a "error critique" message when I try to view the model. This did not occur with the Viscount, though. The ships show up correctly, though I suspect that some textures are missing since the Allegiance is fairly low-detail and does not have bridge lights as described. Another weird thing is that the Assault Frigate is suddenly missing ALL textures... I will start from scratch with a fresh tactical.dll since this could be caused by a serious mess-up from the past. Another thing: The Allegiance has a hangar bay. I think I read in the SWTC that the Allegiance Class had no such thing as a big fighter docking bay and did not carry a single fighter. Do I recall correctly or am I mistaken?

When I look at Rebellion with a little distance, I always wonder why someone would program such a limited and restricting game engine. I do not think they were aware of modders in that days and wanted to make it as difficult as possible for them; and those restrictions limited their game development, too. Weird.

THAT is supposed to be a Bothan Assault Cruiser? *BWuaHAhaHAhuaummmmmpff* My waste bin looks prettier and more like the Bothan Assault Cruiser described in the books than that thing. I think the Defender Class was a cruiser and only 700 m in length. The pic seems familiar, though. Gank though it could be a Nebula Class.
-
Very good. Just tell Mask or Gank so they do not bother with doing a model, too. worktime is just too limited. Will you be able to make up some rendered shots based on your model I could use for the card?
-
Evader: Nope, we are making relatively good progress. It's down just to Scathane, Trejiuvanat La Forge and me, but we completed some personnel and ship cards. All our discussions run via E-Mail so none of it really show in the forums. BTW, I could need some good ship pics for AFrg Allegiance Mod Bulk Cruiser Galleons Gallofree Yards Medium Transport Where is my Dark Lord of Graphix? Hope he enjoys his vacation.

The aliens from The Black Fleet Crisis who wanted to cleanse the whole Koornacht Cluster from other species. Well, they got wiped out some 15 years later by the Yuuzhan Vong, so there is that.

As for shields and hull: I took the ISD-I as reference. Hull * 1,24 or something, shield value divided by 16. About guns: There is no appearent pattern in the original Rebellion. I thought about the ships' dangerousness in the XW-series and their descriptions in novels, games etc. I put the stats I have so far in one Excel doc; I you are interested I could send it to you via E-Mail.
