The Real Trick

I guess this is the really tricky part of this TC if you think about it. We still have to deal with the fact that there are certain events that happen, like bounty hunters attacking Solo. I know we discussed changing this to perhaps assassins trying to kill another character, but what about a character disappearing for a while around day 300 (Luke's card). And the fact that a character will gain Force ability suddenly (Leia)...we should probably map out an idea of what characters should replace the major characters so the DLL entries can be discussed. Then someone will have to come up with some nifty artwork of these events, and voices will have to be re-recorded (Solo: Sometimes I amaze even myself!).

Just some thoughts...any ideas out there?

As an addition to what you said, I am also wondering if we will be able to replace the GUI..? I assume that the positions of the icons can't be changed, but the picture itself probaly could be.

Does anyone want to create a new GUI? (I'm thinking 3d model, because the one in Rebellion now is a rendering of a 3d model). Can anyone create a new GUI? It's not that hard, I mean we don't have to really replace the icons, just the background for the game.. erm, yes.

Well, if we use the Thrawn period Luke could nip off to do his training with Joruus C'Baoth - after a while he would realise that Joruus is bad, and Luke would return, strengthened in the ways of the force.

We have to have a card of Luuke!!!

If you mean with GUI the menu screens, they should be easy to exchange. The pictures are in the dlls and you can open these with the tool I've come to think of as a swiss army knife for Rebellion, Resource Hacker :D

I also don't think the button positions can be changed that way. The game surely will expect button x to be at a predefined position. It would be easier, if it were a win-prog, there you can rearrange the dialog screens with Res.Hacker.

Still a slight change would be nice, just something to spice it up a bit.

Well, here's a question:

Are we switching the sides to allow the NR to control Coruscant? That would be a big change in the game indeed. Lots of DLL editing as well.

Thoughts?

Well obviously we'd have to mirror the GUIs at the least..

And I know it's easy to replace, but we have to replace it with something.

Well I'm still tinkering with the savegames and have to try out Hasting's method for locating the planets, but in theory it should work to give Coruscant to the Alliance and place the Empire somewhere else, like Yaga Minor. We should also consider changing the names of some planets, so we could have Honoghr, for example. And we'd need an asteroid field designated Alderaan  Does anyone know the system ?

Yes, we can do that.. but the question of the moment is... can we replace the GUI or not?? Who wants to do this? :)

Well, i think we should just pick a map and go with it. However, i only know of the maps in the NJO books. But there are other maps out there. Also we need to bear in mind the size of the galaxy and which planets we want to be in even the smallest games.

Actually.. We could just rename Yavin to Coruscant, change the pic, and keep the sides.

I've done it before, and it works perfectly.

I've also changed the GUI, works marvellous as well. Well, it works marvellous. Didnt look as good , my skillz sucked.

Hmm, could work, personally i think we need somethin that acts as an advantage when it's over. See, Luke comes back from Dagobah much stronger.

Very good point, Big E! Not only stronger, but a Force user. This was my original point, we need to figure out how to have a character who previously is non-Force using to suddenly gain Force strength.

Could we do a Kyle Katarn kind of thing here? Hmmmm....

But also how would we explain the main characters (whoever is replacing Vader, assumably Thrawn) detecting whoever is replacing Luke? Hmm.. Would that even happen if that given main character had no force ability? :?:

We could do Corran Horn maybe, does anyone know when he went off looking for his real grandfather?

That was in I, Jedi. It's set around the time of the Jedi Academy books (past Thrawn), so we couldn't have Jedi Corran or Kyp (still in the mines on Kessel). But I think if you don't give a character force abilities, he won't detect enemies that way (in theory 8) ).

I outlined in another forum my idea about balenced characters. Thrawn and Palleon woud make excellent leader characters, good with fleets etc. C'Baoth and his henchman Luuke make the mission ready Jedi.

Luke and Mon Mothma would make a good team as the two Republic leaders.

Well, until the gang over in "Cards-Personnel" gets their act together, we peons in DLL Entires will have to wait...

Until we know who the Main Characters are, we can't start making any event DLLs... :D

I've tried Hasting's method for moving the planets and I begin to see a little light at the end of the tunnel :)

If I find the pattern, we could edit the starting planet for each side with the savegame editor I'm writing. That way the imps would still be after Coruscant like Nek dogs  and we could keep the 4/2 main character structure intact.

The problem is with the AI. They want to attack some predefined object (characters, planets) but this is overcomable.

About the GUI, everything can be changed. Even the locations of our fellow friends - the droids. Voices can be changed, locations of X buttons can be changed, the design of menu can be changed, even the droids can be changed in other droid shapes, movings, taunts.

Kyp was not in the Thrawn era, at that moment he was a spice-miner :o . Actually, it should be possible to change the predefinitions of the planets you start with, so you can give some of the planets to Empire or NR, and place shipyards, cloning facilities (I made a cool one some months ago). It is the easiest to change names of Yavin and Coruscant, but then it is not anymore really realistic. The Empire wouldn't know where to find the NR Hq, and dito. I was thinking about changing sites, and instead of the Alliance Hq Cloud City, we could make a Chimeara or spacestation Hq.

But Yavin was never a recurring area for attack. I guess you could put the HQ on Yavin, move the planets so it swaps with Coruscant, rename it, na dthen find a way to stop people moving the HQ. Then rename what was Coruscantr to Wayland and move it somewhere else. You might have to swap the entire sector.

Yeah, but like you said, the AI will look for certain things. But if you gave the real Coruscant to the Rebels, the AI would do almost anything to get it back, cause that happened in all the games I plaid.

But editing the savegames is still far from being released, so far I can edit the character stats and the types of starships. When I have the pattern of the planets then I'll see where the fighters, troops/spec forces and facilities are.
