Well, you can pick and choose which of the pics to redo; the backgrounds are all included. Honestly, 90% look good, even better than the opaque, flat renders we had before, not to mention not having the ridiculous colors for the logos. I just make the stuff; you determine what goes in and what stays out.

 

Yeah, YVaW has a good way to go, but their content looks like a real winner in terms of quality. Again, it's awful generous of Burntstrobe to let use use his resources when they are complete. :)

It is. I've helped him out a bit, by getting him a bunch of EJ models/skins, though in truth I'll be getting the better side of the deal, so to speak. I'd give him more stuff if I could, but I don't have anything else I can grab.

Yep, it looks pretty, and with respect to vanilla Sins, it works quite well. If I get better with modifying brush files, I plan to get rid of the "top" window of the Fleet Logistics page and "move" the supply window up. Also moving the boxes around so that they all fit in properly.

Also, there's 8 buttons in BackdropInGame.dds [recently updated this file] starting from the pixel position (1840, 1075) that look terrible in the new UI. Perhaps you could change those up if possible Ludo?

When I get back home on Wednesday, I'll certainly give it a look-over.

 

That UI is absolutely frakkin' sweet, as well as those rank buttons. Would you believe that I considered using Imperial ranks for the logistics system, and to replace fleet badges or capital ranks? Goafan is definitely on the right track.

 

If and when we have the resources to address this, I'd be glad to work a similar system in, if it's fitting. :)

Aye. I've managed to get the supply window moved up, and the unused capital ship slow window thrown out. We do have the resources to changes these images; we can easily overwrite base Sins'. ...Speaking of which I need to fix the supply icons for a few factions other than the Imps.

Well, what I meant by resources was a changed UI structure which you just succeeded in accomplishing. I should stop being so vague. xD

 

I was under the impression that the buttons would be more or less universal in use, the UI being in an "Imperial" sort of perspective...I suppose Imps and Republic get the standard plaque and cylinder system; Rebels and NR their rank system; the Vong some weird thing; and the CIS perhaps can keep the current logistics icons as theirs, but I dunno. What're your thoughts, gents?

Even though we don't have any images for CIS rank insignias, we might be able to work something out based on the RL rank symbols, or simply use the Imperial plaques and code cylinders as well. Any suggestions?

Nice find. It looks like Captain Starcrusher has a red dot surrounded by gold. That may be a piece of a flair rather than a rank insignia, but we might be able to come up with some imagination that's different from the Imperials or Rebels. :)

A lot of the planetes have a DA texture but I can make one for the ones that don't pretty easy.

Much thanks! Very nice selection here, I like all of them immensely save the Ecumen and Rusty textures. Though I have to ask, can you upload the original dimension CL textures? The original 2048x2048 textures look even better than the 2048x1024 ones in the archive. For comparison, I found the volcanic's original skin and here is the compressed version from the archive you sent.

The volcanic genuinely looks like a hot place. Great job!

 

Here's a list of things I got around to jotting down for you gents' reference:

 

Things to Do:

 

1) Review Burntstrobe planet textures; review wonky icons per Lavo

 

2) Create new “rank” badges for logistics menu; new fleet icons (for each faction?)

 

3) Continue with unit HUD pictures (finish Republic; start NR; start Vong)

 

4) Review unit build icons; change from X color to blue background

 

5) Revamp loading screen characters

 

6) Revamp music mod

 

Let me know if anything else needs be done.

 

Also, question for Lavo: ever consider swapping the Botajef for the CR-20 troop carrier? I don't know if EvilleJedi had a model, but I think perhaps so. It'd be pretty straightforward, given how simple the Botajef is ingame, anyway.

I can move it up, sure.

 

It seems odd to have multiple colors for different factions beyond their respective faction colors. Green for CIS? Purple for Republic? I forget the Rebels and NR, let alone the Vong. It's a tad sloppy, IHMO.

 

What I took the buttons to symbolize are ships intended to be built, like schematics prior to construction. When they're built, they assume their "colors" or whatever; until then they remain neutral and blue, as their category buttons "above" them. The structure buttons already reflect this, TBH. The ships ought to follow suit I think. And it would be a light blue, like the ship category buttons; not a dark hue.

 

I'm taking cue from the EaW system, as I did with the blue ship and yellow structure buttons for the primary category buttons. It was clean in design and easy to navigate between what was what: ground structures and units were yellow, orbital structures and space units were blue. I figure we can go with that sort of a system, if you don't mind of course. Variety is nice with gameplay content, but the general GUI system can be standardized for an easier of player experience, at least perhaps on the eyes.

 

Since you mentioned acquiring new, clean ship renders at some point, I'll hold off on touching the buttons until then. I figure that if you're set on doing that, I may as well wait for you, that I might go redo the lot of the HUD unit pictures as well as the buttons in one go. You will not find a more ardent foe of redundant work than in I. :P

I can tell you for sure, due to how Sins' UI is, buildings and ships will both have the same color background for their HUD icons for a given faction. Whether the color is the same for all factions notwithstanding, this decision is final. Purple for the Republic and green for the CIS don't work well at all as it isn't their faction's color, I'll admit that. Though red for the Alliance/NR, purple for the Vong, and blue for the Imperials, I would argue is fairly fitting. Further, unlike unit pictures which have a host of inconsistencies, and older ones often looking awful, HUD icons are all to a reasonable standard and look good ingame.

 

Edit: Also, somewhat unrelated, but Evaders, can you make sloose a new SVN account? Over the past few years he's never been able to get his "current" one working, to the point where I gave him my credentials at one point so he could make a revision, which worked fine.

To be honest, coordinated colors for units and structures based on faction color (CIS, tealish blue; Republic, brickish red; Empire, lighter blue; Rebels and NR, lighter red; Vong, purple) is a better route. More work, but a better route.

 

Still, I will wait for better renders so I can do the HUD pics and icons simultaneously, if that's alright.

I tried to make a nice Ucumen texture but it always comes out not quite right. How about we use the coruscant texture from RaW?

 

Ludo, what ships do you need renders of I can probably assist with that.

Their Coruscant texture is quite nice. If you can secure it, go for it. :)

 

Either Lavo or myself will let you know which ones will be needing them. I'll have a list encompassing any Republic or CIS ships that need retakes. Lavo knows our resources better, so perhaps he will give you a better picture (never mind the pun). Thanks for helping out on that front, Warb! :D

 

Also (I don't know what your schedule or workload is like), do you think you might be able to get a skin at some point for the Mandator? Low priority, but something that can be knocked out quickly if need be. I know RaW has a skin; all it needs is team colors, if at all.

How about we use the coruscant texture from RaW?

A very good idea! If you can acquire it, let me know. If not, I'll ask z3r0x for it; I still need to ask him for his Advanced Droid Bomber (the Trade Fed one) model anyways.

 

I know RaW has a skin; all it needs is team colors, if at all.

Any skin RaW has will do the trick; team colors are a non-essential for ships.

I gotta emphasize that it would be better to make him a brand new account rather than try to fix the old one, in particular as this has been an issue for multiple years.

Gotta say, the new planet textures make a world of difference. They are indeed quite beautiful. The higher resolution versions will certainly be nice. :)

 

My one quip with them as they stand is the Bastion Moon having the agriworld texture. No big deal, but I did notice it. Perhaps something more rocky? Once we get the skins finalized, I can whip up some new HUD icons to match them.

 

Warb, here's a list AFAIC of the renders needed in the short-term:

Republic spaceport

Mandator (we can wait until a new skin is acquired and applied)

Vulture droid

Hyena bomber

Civic and military research stations

CIS hangar defense

 

Lavo, you mentioned the NR units are all clean; do send them to me when you have time. Thanks!

The Bastion Moon uses the Ecumen texture actually. That's one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of the Ecumen texture.

 

A bunch of those renders we already have; I haven't had the time to get you all the renders I got, hopefully I can get them today.
