  1. 1. Please select which statement reflects how the news that the game will basically end timeline-wise at ANH.

    • I will buy the game because it is made by most of the people that made Command and Conquer.
      1
    • I will probably buy the game because I want a decent Star Wars RTS and Empire at War will be a welcome upgrade to Rebellion, SSD and company missing notwithstanding.
      12
    • I will wait to see if the game plays well enough with the demo before deciding. I was going to buy the game for sure before this news.
      6
    • I will buy the game because it is Star Wars.
      4
    • I will buy the game because it is an RTS set in Star Wars.
      10
    • I will not buy this game. The timeline and/or exclusion of post ANH ships (except for Alliance ships like Mon Cal, etc.) is a deal breaker for me.

Well EAW has:

- 2 factions

- Couple native AI

- Tons of units from movie period and before and units they used during campaigns on none movie planets.

- 1 space map and 2 planet maps

- campaing, skirmish and multiplayer

- lots of heroes

- Death Star

- and normal RTS missions and research

- Free will in camapaigns

- Cool Episode 1-6 music

- Nice hero powers such as Force protect right? or vehicle theft :)

- and I think Brett mentioned one of them recordable multi videos (correct me if i'm wrong)

That should make someone happy right ?

Not to mention it is two games in one. Normally games are either space rts or ground rts. EaW incorporates both. Throw in 40 planets and you have a game that is a steal for $50.

remember one of them beginning news ? I think it was either Mike or Brett or both that said that there will be one space map and 2 planet maps so if you beat one you'll have a harder time beating the second one.

well it just sort of lowered my game expectations because i was hoping for a game with post ROTJ ability but i have faith in the company, they are a revolutionary company, westwood that is and they will bound to repeat history in thier revolutionary ways in petro.

and they made C&C and im a product of that series.

EaW FTW!

There's plenty left that this game will offer. You just need to get over the fact it isn't inclusive of later Episodes and start thinking about the positives we all know about.

I can still get to command my fleet of ISDs with a horde of escorting TIES. Yeah, the first screens released showed me what I wanted. I think I've made my feelings known about the Executor class, so I shead no tears for that. Pity about there being no interceptor, but I've always viewed TIE fighters as fodder anyways so the standard TIE will do just fine. As soon as I get my fleet rolling, I'm going to crank the Imperial March and watch the ensuing chaos.

The Imperial march is post ANH so you can't play it in this game. :P

Seriously though, there is hope for this game because it is being built with extreme modability in mind. An example is when Delphi-PG said that something like the Death Star could have its size doubled with a simple edit of an XML file. This as well as the mechanics of the space and ground battles will give us a powerful tool to mold the game how we see fit. So expect to be able to load a total conversion mod for Ep IV-VI gameplay fairly quickly after getting the game.

And I guess you can mod in the Imperial march, Swiftdraw. ;)

My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!

I'll bet they have the march in, along with a lot of EP1-3 musics. I can't imagine them restricting the musical side of the game by the time frame. Consider that some years of the game take place when no film happens, so you'd miss a whole chunk of music. It just makes sense they'd use all the popular ones for the game musics.

How then do you justify the inclusion of the Century Tank (also nicknamed the TIE Tank and TIE Crawler), which was produced for the first time in the period following the Battle of Endor?

An earlier unit.

If there is a place where new design is welcomed, because it's a much needed addition due to the lack of unit types, it is ground forces, in particulary tanks.

AT-TE <---- nuff said.

First of all, you don't have to give an answer to something that's already been given an answer to, by a Petro guy nonetheless. ;)

Secondly: Now hold on one minute.

The AT-TE was not invented by Petroglyph, but by the people who made the movies.

I'm talking about EU created ground vehicles here, on the rebel and Imperial side. And for the OT era, not the Prequels era.

Spaceships, we got a whole plethora of those already, so why create new ones (broadside, and that other ship, I don't know which side it's supposed to be on)?

Ground vehicles on the other hand is a whole nother story.

That is what my point was about.

So was I, calm down.

There's no reason to skip on something like the AT-TE, as I've seen little in the way of medium tanks for the Empire. Just a couple of blocky hovertanks.

Frisk that... I'm putting it through my sound system and turn off the in game music. My headphones don't get the best quality sound wise.

Who needs medium tank-esque stuff when you get the AT-AT and accompaning troops?

A realistic army thrives on diverse units, not wall-to-wall AT-AT wank. :P

Besides, we all know they can't take much punishment from below. If you get tanks through to it, the AT-STs will not hold. They're scouts/LAVs for a reason. There needs to be a middle ground, and possibly something to intimidate when you can't get AT-ATs there.

The other land-units I've seen so far, look more light to me (if going by their design-relatives). And the AT-AP is more of an assault gun than a tank, so the AT-TE would fit right in. (Unless they go with more established stuff like Firehawkes or Imperial-class repulsortanks.)

Dosn't this mean no jedi knight Luke Skywalker as this ends at Yavin, only pre Jedi version of him?

What I don't understand is if it was meant to end at yavin, - why show so much of the classic movie timeline in both there trailer and on their web site, I mean look at it, it looks like hoth.

The game seems to end when the DS does. Since you can create your own story, the battle of yavin could occur without the destruction of the DS or with out it even being present. This way, one would get all the classic battles and most of the vehicles, besides the ROTJ-era ones (if I understand it correctly).

If the tech tree ends at the Battle of Yavin why do the Imperials get the interdictor cruiser? I mean, I don't think it was deployed until the Imperial Pursuit of the rebels leading up to Hoth.
