Given the level of homophobia kids just hitting puberty have nowadays, I'd say there's very little chance that they'd run about doing something like that. Feel free to argue if you want, but just remember: It's been a lot longer since you were thirteen than since I was. If anything Tofu.. I would argue the homophobia has gone DOWN since I was thirteen and kids would be MORE likely to try such odd things especially when "experimenting" during the adolescent years. Perhaps, things such as this FICTIONAL story talks about were more likely in the 70's (during the openness of those times) but I still wouldn't put it past anyone... and might even argue that even back then people wouldn't have thought of such things.. As for pyrotechnics: Of course people are stupid around fire. Fire is, well, fire. I screwed around with it a bit when I was younger, though I was bright enough to do it in a not-so-busy-street or on a storm drain .... And just because you or I were smart enough to do things wisely.. doesn't mean other would be nearly as bright... you basically prove my point by feeling the need to put that modifier on your story.... I tend to be a cynic when it comes to the intelligence of human kind.. especially when I drive around, walk around and even sit around every day observing the shear stupidity of our average specimen of this race..
