Hey GAT! Long time no ... type? Whatever; it's good to see you around again

Hey it's GAT! How's it going?

Hey guys! After spending an entire semester drudging through the dark corners of cyber-space and dealing with the world's scum bags, I decided to take some time away from a keyboard. Hopefully I'll pop in a little more often now!

I think that for the next movie they need to scale back the number of villains being used. When I compare the first two Spider-man movies to, say, the X-Men movies, the thing that makes Spider-Man better is that they focus on one protagonist and one antagonist. This lets them develop the character more. The X-Men movies were pretty much a blatant attempt at a cash grab off of some popular comic heroes (unless you're a Gambit fan, in which case you got screwed over for Kitty Pryde).

That's what I think went wrong with this movie: they put in two villains and didn't have enough time to really develope either character, except for Sandman at the end (truely heart-warming I thought too).

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Rob, go back and rewatch the film. When the grenade goes off, you see the symbiote consumed in flames, then you see Brock's body turned to a skeleton (like what happened to the OsCorp directors in the first film) before being consumed by that same flame. I assure you, his body was destroyed. It disappointed me quite a bit, too, because I was hoping for the return of the Venom because like you, I too think Venom was the most infamous and best of the villains in Spider-man, but that seems unlikely for the film series. I couldn't find a screenshot on the net, but I'm sure we'll get a lot once the movie comes out on DVD. I wouldn't just make it up, Rob.

I did find this, though...

UPDATE: And as much I hate using Wikipedia as a source, you may want to read this, Rob, under the section "Spider-Man 3", the last sentence of the "Storyline" bit.

Godwin's Law in action! Well, sort of.

SOCL is right that visually Brock and the symbiot were destroyed, but if there's one thing we know about the Marvel universe it's that not everyone who dies stays dead. Just read up on Captain America for proof of that!

I don't think that Venom will appear again, but not because they've killed him. More because this movie has nearly killed the series. The caliber is nowhere near that of it's predecessors and has started swinging the franchise in the direction of The Hulk and X-Men. I give it one more movie before they give up.

I for one did not see the skeleton, but I wont call you a liar either SOCL. Maybe my subconcious chose to ignore it. But what I dont get is that Peter hurled one of the bombs at Harry earlier on, and he only got a burn on his face. I dont see how the same bomb could incenerate Brock. Only time will tell, I suppose.

I know you weren't calling me a liar, Rob; sorry if it came across that way. I can certainly agree with you about not wanting that, and not that you mention it, it does seem odd it could successfully kill Brock, but not Harry. :? I truly do believe that as far as the film franchise is concerned, Brock and Venom are indeed dead. However, if I had to bet, I would put my money on saying that we haven't seen the last of the symbiote. I really do expect Carnage to come into play at some point, though not necessarily in the fourth film since they've said that like the X-Men films, they want to make them in trilogy installments. So I rather expect us to see Professor Connor as the Lizard next, then another villain in the fifth one, followed by Carnage, rather how Harry Osborne didn't become the Green Goblin Redux until the third film.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. But I would love to see Lizard and Carnage at some point. And I still like my idea of throwing a villain in at the first 10-15 minutes of the movie, just so that that villain could be represented on film.

Are you saying like as an intro to the movie it shows him fighting.. eh.. lets say chameleon and he wins and gets him jailed (or some equivalent) just so we can see the villain?.. but the movie goes on to another story line?... i kinda like the sound of that personally.. although i dont think Chameleon would work.. I was just throwing out that name... coulda said Rhino.. anyway.. yea,... is that what you meant Rob?

EDIT: just hit me... Morbius... hell yea.. i would like to see him..

Interesting concept, though it would still follow along the painfully disturbing use of science and magic interchangably in movies that I've been seeing since Episode IV of Star Wars came out...

My take on why Brok died with the symbiote: The symbiote was flammable. This would also explain its vulnerability to flame- think of it as having a hot blaze of fire go over your face. Sure, it'll hurt like hell and burn you if it goes off near enough, but it won't quite kill you.

However, if you've just jumped into, say, semi-solid gasoline (Or highly flammable symbiote material) and that flame will seriously scorch you.

Granted, this is all speculation, pretty much... Plus I'm making up some of the science I'm using.

From what I can see in this clip, there's no vaporizing or the symbiot and brock. Other than a big fire ball, there's actually thothing at all. I also noticed that as Brock jumped in, the symbiot bonded with him again. Who knows. I don't think we can truely say either way. Only time will tell.

I wouldn't dismiss it just yet. The quality of this isn't exceptional and certainly not what you would see in a cinema. I wouldn't dismiss it based on a bootleg, but I assure you, I saw that skeleton--and I wasn't the only one because in my frantic hope that he wasn't dead, I asked everyone else with me, but alas, they too saw it.

According to a friend who read the book his charred skeleton falls to the ground after the explosion, and that's all that's left of Brock.

Oh, why did they give us the agony of a Venom conspiracy?!?!?!

@JH: Yes, Morbious would be another sweet villain that could be that 15-minute opening villain. Certain guys are too good, and would be wasted doing that, like Carnage, Lizard, or Mysterio. But Rhino, Morbious, Scorpion...now they would be neat.

I dunno, Rob. Morbius strikes me as an interesting character, with quite a bit of potential for a full-out plot in his attempt to find a cure, through any means necessary.

I always liked movies with gray bits to 'em, and in this case I'd say that they have the potential to do what I think they wanted to do with the Sandman. That's just my opinion, though.

Morbious should have been in the Blade trilogy. Its a shame that the first was the best, the second was bad, and the third was terrible. Morbious belonged there.

Lucky bugger- seeing it on Friday... It looks like the plot will be about the same calliber as the second one's, but it might redeem itself in the SFX department.

In regards to Pirates, I am confused about something. I read in Rolling Stone magazine several months back that Keith Richards was cast to portray Jack Sparrow's father. Depp also stated that he developed many of Jack's mannerisms from watching Richards. However, I have not seen one hint of it after that. I'm assuming that either he has a cameo role, and little camera time, or they are just doing a damn good job of keeping the lid on it.

I finally saw 28 Weeks later last night... pretty good movie. I enjoyed it and thought it was a good addition to the storyline. Some parts were a little far fetched I will admit.. even with the willing suspension of disbelief.. but it still is pretty cool.... now i gotta get back to planning for the eventual Zombie take over :P
