I think SOCL might be abusing a moderator power or two... BTW: Scathane (sp?) is the BEAK Master, I believe. Also: The similarities between Harry Potter and Star Wars are just the result of epitaphs. A number of items recur in the Hero's Journey throughout cultures and stories. For example, one might compare The Princess Bride to Star Wars and find that there are a number of similarities, or Tolkein's Lord of the Rings trilogy. In addition to that, the plot is so simplified for both the book and the movie that they really can't help but be the same. I'm sorry, but the irony in the post made it too difficult to pass up... So I'm rereading the Wraith Squadron Trilogy, now. I'm on Solo Command. I still cry when Ton dies. It's so sad... I didn't ask for it, even if I have come to embrace it like a bad habit. Yes, Tofu, I know exactly what you mean about that particular incident. One day I'll get around to rereading my favorite Star Wars novel, Solo Command among them. I recently completed The Final Prophecy. Quite refreshing after the mess of a trilogy that Force Heretic was. I gave it 4 stars out of 5, but my reviews tend to be overly happy simply because I'm pleased with finishing the novel. I'm sure if someone asks me in a month or so what I thought, all my reviews will drop--and if they don't, then it was one damn good novel! Now I enter The Unifying Force. I never thought the day would come when I would at least be at the end of the New Jedi Order. When I originally set out on my quest to read all of the post-Return of the Jedi novels, I never imagined completing the Bantam novels, much less the NJO, which at the time seemed endless (especially since it hadn't yet been completed)! Now I sit on the threshold, ready and excited to complete this series and very soon be caught up with the releases! There will be much celebration after this novel...but not too much so as to give me time to read the Dark Nest trilogy. Alright, Psych, I believe you have made your point. Besides which, BEAK was given to me because of my odd knowledge of strange and rather random Star Wars history. It initially had nothing to do with correct grammar or even spelling. It only evolved into that after I tore apart the post of one user, dude22 (not the famous dude21 of AT-AT lore), who insisted on being rather rude to everyone. At one point he corrected someone's spelling, after which I came in yielding a red-hot scimitar and destroyed his own grammar and spelling in that very post he'd corrected the other fellow. Needless to say, he was quite taken by this counterattack and was never seen on the forums again. Damn it, people, I just work here! Psych, I'll make sure you get a title soon enough, but it's always been Scathane who has named new BEAKers. He named both I and Mitth what we are today, so I'm rather unsure how to proceed... Okay, yeah, I did think it would come to this, just not quite so soon. I'm still trying to secure a copy of Sacrifice from the library since I steadfastly refuse to pay twenty bucks for the hardback edition, but it's been tremendously elusive. The worst part is that I know far too much about the plot thanks to trying to brush up on the history of a character or two and an ill-placed suggestion to check out someone's Wookiepedia article. @SOCL: Spoiler alert. Just got a new book from the library- A Brief History of Western Atheism. After failing to secure a copy of Sacrifice, I figured I'd check my other haunt besides the SciFi section. I had a thought that had something to do with Psych and BEAKing; that one led to something else, which led to something else, which prompted that comment. @Psych, no offense intended, but I've been BEAKing quite a while now, and you haven't BEAKed Scath yet. Psych is ProtAKtor to be a "bodyguard" of sorts for myself, protecting the sovereignty of the Grand Imperator, as well as the usual BEAKing. If I were to ever abdicate or die, as Commander in Chief, you would assume command until new "elections" were held. Okay, enough the BEAKing spam here. I'm wading through James Luceno's The Unifying Force, reading much more slowly than I have been. It's quite entertaining and has the feel of a modern epic, with grand, orchestrated plans and campaigns, and yet... Well, so far, it's actually been something a disappointment. The Yuuzhan Vong pull out from Mon Calamari to Yuuzhan'tar and the stereotypical decisive, final conflict to come seems...well, cliche. I mean, I love a final, decisive fight over a forest planet with the good-guys receiving assistance from the down-trodden and meek to win...and yet... I'm still eagerly awaiting that last book. @SOCL: Call me crazy, but I thought that Unifying Force felt somewhat... Well, forced, as it were.
