By the way, Anakin Solo is dead, correct? He died in Dark Tide II: Ruin, correct? Or am I totally off?

Star By Star. But you are right.. Anakin is dead.

:? Hmm...I could have sworn Dark Tide II had his X-Wing explode with him in it when it collided with something. :? Yes, I know that's rather vague.

Nom Anor
Who? :? I've only read the first three NJO novels...is this someone I'll meet later? :?

It was really the X-Wing series that showed that the books could really have a plot without staring the main movie characters. Without those books, I don't expect that EU would have developed the way it did. Possibly, all the books would have had Luke/Leia/Han do their usual 'kick the Empire' storyline and there would have been no variety at all.

I agree there are problems with EU. It often isn't consistant. Different writers have their own styles and characters. But the alternative is what we see from a lot of scifi series... total lacking originality and universe development (Star Trek anyone?). And considering that writers were banned from the pre-Classic/Clone Wars era for the longest time... only way to go was post-Classic

I agree 100%.

Anakin was killed in Star by Star while on a mission to a Vong World Ship orbiting Myrkyr, in an attemtp to destroy the Voxyn. He was mortally injured, but took so much Force power into his body that as he used it he was slowly destroyed (physically that is).

I was curious about the two Dark Jedi that were in this book. Where are they from, and why is it that nothing more was said of them after they stole the team's ship and ran away? I think two Dark Jedi would have been potent agains the Vong.

Hmm, you should have met Nom Anor already. He was the leader of the fanatically anti-droid faction ruling a planet in volved in a dispute that Leia had to settle. I believe it resulted in the destruction of one of the planets.

I read somewhere that they'll play a role in the post-NJO books. (I'm not sure if it's in the trilogy or in the enealogy that follows it.)

I'm not sure I do want to see what turn the postNJO takes, because it's too far in the in-galaxy future, probably with the annoying Solo brats in the mainstage and all those young Jedi kids in the background.

Unless I beat them to the punch...probably isn't going to happen but who knows? (I think the Skywalker Family tree still needs pruning)

It seems the next series of books (post-NJO called "Dark Nest" or something like that) is about a race of insectoid creatures that are harassing the Chiss in the Unknown Regions (this is probably addressing the terrible things alluded to by Parck in Vision of the Future, something many of the authors have wanted and feel should be addressed). Though it will be fun to see the Chiss factored into everything, I have the bad feeling this is going to be StarWarsShip Troopers....

No wonder I got a bad taste in my mouth when I read that was coming... oh well. If its like Starship troopers expect it to die fast. 8)

On the EU in general, its a big galaxy guys, the authors could go back and populate the timeline with n number of sector battles and small scale conflicts. Unfortunately it seems most of the writers enjoy making their characters really epic. I'd like to see some more small scale actions instead of the massive war machines we always see in every book. The only series that seemed to even come close to approaching that was the X-wing series, and then they got blown way out of proportion. :x I'd like to see some novels about Alliance Infitrators or something, the EU could broaden out a bit so we'd see something other then bad stuff which continually appears.

The big problem with the EU is that the authors try to make every single conflict into a Galaxy wide crisis, they aren't people, it takes a lot to really destabilize our earth, why not the New Republic?

I'm sure there are lots of things in real life that we don't hear about, crisis that really could change things. Look at all the countries now where people have thrown off their dictorial leaders. And other areas where there has been civil war going on for years. It's a pretty complicated and conflicted world we live in.

On the other issue of EU, this is Star Wars afterall. The whole "Galactic Civil War" thing - Without the galaxy-wide crisis, what kind of atmosphere would you have? For example, you wouldn't have a book on the diplomatic efforts of bring Ewoks into the New Republic. On the issue of infiltrators, I'm sure there's some comics that deal with more of smaller Rebellion stuff. There are some good short stories from the Tales of the Empire and Tales of the New Republic books.

There are also the comic books, while some of them definitely deal with "galactic crisis", a lot of them show other sides of the SW universe.

Why would one want to bring the Ewoks into the New Republic?

I must say that I'd rather go with Jahled's proposal of what Ewoks are good for... Edited by Scathane

Unfortunately (?) Ewoks are extinct.
Put an overpowered Solar Ionization Reactor in between two cheap-ass engines and a couple of laser cannon, put a chair with a rudimentary flight control and targeting computer on top, and surround the (unpressurized!) pilot with enough armor plate so he doesn't fry in a tenth of a second... riiiiiiiiight

The concept of an Ewok Holocaust came up in the Star Wars Insider Mag. It was quickley stated that no such thing had occured, and to stupid stories were proved, one having something to do with a wormhole and Vader's glove. Neither was very convincing, but it is Star Wars, so I suppose we have to cut them some slack.

Too much to comment on in this thread, guys, but suffice to say I agree with pretty much all of the opinions on the EU. I thuroughly enjoyed the Thrawn Trilogy and the Rogue Squadron books (sorry Jahled  ), but everything else I've read in the EU seems a bit far-fetched, and thanks to a few of your essays on the subject, I can see why. I have not read any of the NJO books, mianly because I couldn't stomach any of the plot developments beginning with Dark Empire. So, given the "each person has their own canon material" comment, nothing from that era onward ever happened...IMHO.:lol:

-"He's no good to me dead..."

-"What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me."

-"Put Captain Solo in the Cargo Hold"

Thank you for the refresher...it's be a while (about two years) since I read any of the NJO. I'm making my way there, having completed every novel from Truce of Bakura and currently reading I, Jedi in an attempt to read all post-ROTJ novels. As crazy as it may sound, so far it's worked.

Have you read Republic Commando: Hard Contact? It's pretty good read.

Oooh, nice. I liked Unleashed myself, but Tregedy was a close second (ok, there's only three, but I meant really close )

A hope sprung up while I was walking around at work today and saw our display for the new RotS action figures and toys (I picked up the Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker lightsaber with colour changing blade [was very tempted to get a Vader mask, but I didn't think my head would fit in :D]), I'm really hoping that I get to see Vader in action with a lightsaber in RotS. In the OT he always seemed stiff when he was fighting. The new choriography would greatly improve his image (maybe have him take Mace out :))

Personally I'd be pissed if I stood in the wrong place. They should give advance notice to people. I personally am going to wait until the movie has played a week or so and the excitement dies down a little. I am getting older and don't want to listen to a bunch of kids instead of the movie.-Grand Moff Conway

I don't really see the problem... What's the big deal about the movie being shown in another theatre?

They have been waiting in line for a long time and are pissed that they have been waiting at the wrong theater, basically.

I can see it now, some booking guy who works for FOx sitting at his desk thinking himm, how can I make the Star Wars fans super mad????hmmmm.... I wonder.... Ahhhhhhh!!!! I can move the theater location!!! Thats the ticket!

I don't think they moved the location, I think that they originally planned to have it at the other theater. I sort of blame the fans for not paying enough attention to where it was showing.

I am wondering why they always put Star Wars in quotations in that article? It's not as though it's some sort of code-name or nick-name for the series, nor the group of fans. Maybe CNN thinks that the movies take a second place to the once-proposed-now-renewed-to-some-degree Star Wars space defence?
