But Thrawn is suggesting removing TIEs in favor of anti starfighter weaponry. Therefore the X-wings or whatnot could move in, fire tops and quickly get out....

Which is why fighters with warheads were not a common sight, some elite squadrons would be equipped with them, but unless the mission objectives demanded it, I don't think they would have warheads.

But that's not a common objective.

Fighters are meant to use against fighters, or for hit-and-fade attacks. B-Wings, Y-Wings and K-Wings, and their Imperial Counterparts do have those objectives, but they require escorts.

But Y-Wings, B-Wings and K-Wings aren't fighters, they're bombers.

I suppose having a strictly capp ship navy would be a bad idea, no matter how good the anti-fighter power of the caps is. Jus think how bad WW II would have been if the allies only used AA guns, and not fighters.

That's true. The empire could build thousands of TIEs for the cost of a single ISD. Pluss, those TIEs would take less manpower to man than the ISD.

Really? I don't think I'd want to go up against a Star Destroyer no matter what... well, unless I was in an Eclypse Super Star Destroyer.

True Trej, but if they replaced a thousand of their 25,000 ISDs with TIEs.....Well a million TIEs with hyperdrives and a bunch of ISDs would be pretty fearsome 8O

I'd be more concerned about TIEs with shields. THose things would be harder to take down... but I guess they wouldn't be as mobile as if they had hyperdrives.

Thrawn has a point, shielded TIEs would definetely be more fearsome. A few Impstars with shielded TIEs, now that would be fearsome.
