Well ,the current map isn't that bad, so why don't we just move it arounda bit and change the relevant planet and/or sector names? There must be some way to change the background to a better looking pic?

I wasn't thinking of using the scan of the Njo map as the background in Reb Reloaded, instead I just wondered if we would use the sectors as they appear in the NJO map.

Here's the map:

If it doesn't work here are the links

Yeah, that wouldn't be so bad.. that is the_mask's domain, but I think anyone with some decent 3d skills could create a pretty wicked galaxy (personally I think it's too hard to do it in a 2d program, but maybe someone is that good). :D

I was just thinking that we'll have 200 planets in the galaxy. I guees we'll have to rearrange their order to match the NJO map, and might as well change some names. just to mention some we might need a Kuat, Fondor, Esseles, Thyferra, Duro (written correctly), Sacorria perhaps, Dagobah(we'll be changing the luke event anyway, so having Dagobah somewhere in teh Sluis sector would be nice. Thre are also planets I have never heard before Neeilgaimon, Vodran, etc... Instead we can have planets that acutally appeared in the books, Adumar, Nirauan, morishim, Belsavis, we might even put Gargon from our little RPG, just as an egg...

A while ago I simply changed the galaxy map, and put an image i dwonloaded form the NASA site, in photoshop i blurred it for use when the GID was on and the acutal picture when you shut the GID down. Which I suppose no one does regularly, still the image works just fine. Though having a new one would be nice...

Sounds good to me, i do occasionally turn off my GID, but not often as there isn't really any reason to do so.

...drool...gibber...shake uncontrollably...

..err..how? You wouldn't care to give some instructins to a hapless fool in London on exactly how you accomplished this feat of brilliance...also, i've posting for months now on how to change the star field in the tactical game with a starfield I also found on NASA's spaceflight.com website, people have helped...but i'm so dim when it comes to computers, I can't figure out their advise. Heck, I sometimes shock myself by managing to turn a computer on... :?

Stop shaking, Jahled. The answer it's easy. Use rubber gloves to avoid shocking yourself when starting the computer.

No, that wasn't your question.

You have to use Resource Hacker, and open the strategy.dll, in the bitmaps folder go to the entries 902 and 903.

Yo u might wanto copy the existing dll, and open it in photohop or paint shop pro to keep the size.

As for the images, i used pics form the nasa page too and had no problem scaling them down and making them for 256 colors.

The actual imafge you may use as first slot which is when the GID is off, the picture that is to be used when the GID is on, you may blur a little.

To replace them in the DLL simply right click on the resource you want to replace. Then select the file which you want to have have, then fill the other slots.

In RebEd You used to be able to do it with one of the different versions from the DLLEntries.txt. I'll look for it, and I could mail it to you, if you can't do it the other way.

Trejiuvanant's reply. I actually think I understood that, rah! Nice one. :)

If anyone needs some place to look for starfield pictures, go to a NASA site at:

http://www.spaceflight.com

..and just kind of explore, the whole site is fascinating...

Hmm...this should be someplace where we can access it easily...perhaps the FAQ? :D

What's the deal with the FAQ, anyway? It's blank! Does that mean nobody has any questions?

Yes, I remember too...but it is dark and spooky in there now. I think I saw Zoot scooting around in there, and after what he did with Jahled and me, I'm kinda hesitant to hang around in the FAQ.

I think no one writes in the FAQ because we most of the people that had questions simply put it as a new forum topic. Or it may be for Zoot's reputation. I wouldn't write anythign to fill the FAQ because of that cat...

Dude, your a brave a man mentioning that evil feline's name, Costa Rica isn't out of his reach if he got poor Untimely in the States!

Anyway, I just had a look at the FAQ section in the menu and there isn't anything there! Perhaps-webmasters-you can assign somebody to look after this side of things as some kind of 'trouble-shooter' and/or person responsible for collating frequently addressed questions/queries about the game with member's responses. We would quite quickly create a very useful database of information newbys, and seasoned players could go to for information regarding rebellion or RebEd. :!:

Trejiuvanat looks around and closes doors and windows. His heart is beating violently. One name drives terror in his mind. Zoot. Zoot.

The FAQ sectin could be filled with the questions that have been asked around.

There are Pucho's questtions around, editing questions, newbie questions and we have answered them...

...Trejiuvanat...hovered nervously in his living room. His computer murmered in the background. Rain spat at his windows, his light bulp flickered occasionally in line with the rumbles of thunder... He could hear the roar of the trees bent in the fury of the storm, Trejiuvanat shuddered; he could almost picture the sinister wiskers, licking it's balls in some bush, flashing cunning feline eyes... a cold swett engulfed him. He nervously reached for his mouse, paranoid about what being a member of swrebellion revealed about him....he shuddered at the prospect of Untimely, Jahled, and Elvis all up the moon!

Without much care he reached for the can if Fosters that he strangley found beside his mouse...it would cool him down he thought...settle his nerves...that sort of thing...

Dude, I gave this a go, and naturally stumbled into a mine field of problems. Some questions:

- When I put the rubber gloves over my ears I end up looking like a moose, any advise as to where exactly...oh..hang on, err..that wasn't my question!

Seriously:

- Can the proceedure be used to replace the starfield in the tactical game? If so, where is the entry in the files?

-How, in Paintshop or Photoshop, can I scale the image I want to use down to 256 colours?

-When replacing the images using resource hacker, I will obviously keep the same name that i'll be replacing, but what about the other two? Is the language going to be 1033, as in the ships & fighters?

-I'd love to give an example of the starfield I downloaded from spaceflight.com, but can't seem to upload it to my msn passport web space. Is there any other way I can somehow upload it here for everybody else to gibber and drool over?

Your advise would be sincerely welcomed! I've at pains about this for months and months. :)

I apologize about my cat. (above)

Nice to see all of us in the moon. It was a weird ride, I almost crashed into a satellite on the way.

It was pretty hard to find internet access on this side form the moon. Anyway Ithikn I'll start planning revange for Zoot.

But first I'll help you Jahled. SInce you have your gloves on your ears, you might want to get another pair and put them on your feet...um... I a mean hands, or both. I can't remember....

Seriously:

I don't know about changing the background in the 3d mode, I'll take a look into that anyway...

To convert any picture in 256, I think I used paint for that, there is a way to do it in Photoshop... I always use paint for testing cards in 256 colors, or copy-paste files from Photoshop then I save into 256 colors.

Unlike changing the ship models, changing BMPs works differently, it is easier.

You can send me the picture to this address:

Well I don't use Photoshop, I'm creating all my stuff with Picture Publisher 9 (a lot cheaper :D), but I think I have a way that'll make it possible for you to make a background image that'll have the required palette :

-try and use either the one background I once showed you (eat at Jahled's), or extract the original one, convert it back with vakundok's program (bin-bmp) and use this pic as a template. You could just copy your new image parts into this template and save that modified template under another name.

Hope this works with Photohop as well
