the_mask Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 Is this something like Install/Demo-Shield, but for free ? The way I like it most ? That would be great. I already tried some patch engine with my namespace-tutorial back then, but some people had serious probs with the patcher. We could decrease the size of the music files by compressing them to mp3 or something and using some prog to inflate them back again during installation. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Tsunami Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 Sounds: MP3 converters are seldomly free of charge. There is a thing called libVorbis or something like that and sees extensive use in the BG2 modding community. Converts to .ogg and back to wav. The thing that could be really difficult is to write up a tool that patches the dlls. It's all hopeless but otherwise not very dramatic. - Helme Haffax Englishman: "What do you think of Modern Civilization?"Mahatma Gandhi: "That would be a good idea."
ElvisMiggell Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 How big is the unmodified tactical.dll? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Tsunami: isn't that LAME encoder free as well ? Elvis: about 7 or 8 MB methinks http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 And it might double with all the new models and textures. Then you need a new encyctxt.dll etc... It's going to be a big download, but i'd say just make it so all you have to do it swap the dll's round, nice and easy, but big. Elvismiggell. the_mask Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 The biggest thing will be the tactical.dll, no doubt. Mine is over 45 megs right now The encyclopedia entries shouldn't be too big, cause they are only ascii text. The bmps for card images and events are, well bmps that should compress nicely. Whatever distribution method we'll take, the files are usually compressed and therefore at least a bit smaller than the original http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Could someone please send me the unmodified tactical.dll, i kinda messed mine up and don't have a backup copy. Thanks in advance. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 Wanna bet that you already have ? Say, for your immortal soul ? Take a look at the CD, the Rebellion dir holds all the original dlls. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Jahled Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 ..and whenever you 'do your thing' with the Tactical.DLL file, the Supremecy/Rebellion folder always seems to create a back up folder called Tactical_original.DLL or something similar, that you can simply rename...thereby restoring the original ship-models. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif

ricepr2001 Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 i use a download acellerator for the sole purpose of stopping and starting files during download and if you can seperate a 45 meg file over a few days on 56k or before you go to sleep turn it on and set the accelerator to disconnect when the file is done it will be disconnected in the morning and the file will be downloaded, ive found on 56k i can get aywhere from 60-100 megs in one night Why are people afraid to die? It is a natural part of life. Life and Death. They go together. Some people are just willing to speed up that process.

Huh ? Maybe that's something Resource Hacker does, dunno, but I do make manual backups of my tactical.dll every once in a month The easiest way is just selecting the file in the explorer and pressing CTRL+C and CTRL-V and you get a 'copy of tactical.dll' file. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 So if i used the resource editor thing in RebEd, that lets you put the encydll's on the hard drive will that work? Or are we saying that noone has an original anymore and i shall have to reinstalland post it for the benefit of the site? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 Well as soon as you change anything with RebEd, or Resource Hacker, the files are no more in the original state. But since everyone has their game cds, I don't really see, why you'd want to put the unmodified tactical.dll here and also live with the possibility of LA's wrath on you. It's way faster to simply copy the original dll from the cd, than downloading it altogether as well http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Tsunami Posted January 23, 2003 Posted January 23, 2003 And cheaper. Not only for you but for all the others who use their precious internet time to discuss this. ricepr2001 Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 my reference to a download accelerator was in reply to dling rebellion reloaded, just to clear that up Why are people afraid to die? ElvisMiggell Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Okay okay, subject closed, anyway, what WERE we talking about? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
TK421 Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 The galaxy map. Someone has a usefull picture of the NJO map?? Z'anthr saves the world. Sorry about the mess...
ElvisMiggell Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Doesn't StarWars.com have a good one? And if not why not?!? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Jahled Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 The Star Wars Encyclopedia published by DeAgostini has an up to date map... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
the_mask Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Yup, it's based on the NJO map. I have a little Flash program with that map that I'll publish when I found it again Question is, do we really want to use that map ? It's pretty far from the Rebellion map, that we all are so used to. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Jahled Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Yes we do. There's to much wrong with the existing map. A coupl of months ago you were going to 'meditate' on whether the map could be made larger. How did your meditating get along? Oh, darn! Master Yoda has started throwing twigs at me again, 'as part of my training.' http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted February 13, 2003 Posted February 13, 2003 Well? Any developments Mask? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
