Destroyed a Death Star

Yep, Jahled is right. I've seen (almost) everything the game has and that scene doesn't exist in the movies. You can watch the originals with Smacker (http://members.xoom.virgilio.it/d_kelley/rebellion/reloaded_tc/smacker3.zip), they're in the MDATA folder on your cd. The first set of numbers are the movies, the rest is the music (wave) format. Just either open Smacker and select the movie to play, or copy them to your hdd and rename them to have the extension .smk

Say, all this has given me a thought....would we be able to use some of the victory/defeat movie footage for other events in the game, assuming we can have movies to replace some static DLLs in the game. With a bit of editing (ie: cutting out the bits of C3-PO saying 'we're doomed!' but keeping all the other footage of destruction, for, say, the destruction of a rebel fleet, or the last bit with the two Star Destroyers jumping into hyperspace for an Imperial fleet jumping into hyperspace....? It would certainly liven up the game.

I of course wouldn't have a clue how to do it.

I regret to say that i have been reliably informed that you cannot replace the in game event dll's with movies, no matter how much we wish it were possible.

I have absolutely no idea. You could load it onto your website and just put a link in.

I am pleased to announce that I was wrong. In a previous post on this subject I stated the AI will only ever build one Death Star. I am glad (?) to reveal I was wrong. I have just had a very pleasant experiance, the innocence of which I have not experianced probably since I first loaded the game onto my hard drive at began my first game. Check it out:

Playing as the rebellion. Do my usual thing, tweak values here, tweak em' there; cool! Hopefully get a good fight out of the AI playing as the Empire. One thing I of course make sure I do is set the Death Star values at 50/50, capacity 48 ftrs/36 troops, nice hyper drive of 45...should be incentive enough for the Empire to build one of the bloody things.

Anyway game in progress, about day 150 of deliberately playing like a jerk so the AI has a chance to actually build an Empire, The Death Star, Liquidator, turns up at my rebel base on Byss. Ohooooo!.....

Elsewhere, far across the galaxy in the Sesswena, or whatever it's called sector, rebel activity is getting quite busy. I send Luke and Page off to Ghorman on an espionage mission..by accident.

Luke meets Vader, discovers who his dad is, gets injured, and is captured. No problemo! Becuase i've got the rebel second fleet; The Republic Fleet, docked at Yaga Minor, including two newly built Mon Calamari Cruisers; Congress and Defiance, not to mention the state-of-the-art Corellion Gunships All Fools Day and Regina..ho ho!

Admiral Solo, Commander Paris Solussar, and three teams of infiltrators set off with The Republic Fleet to Ghorman, expecting only a Victory Class Destroyer for company.

Death Star number two. The Annahilator.

Did I panic? Of course I bloody well did! As Green group went in, and the Congress became just another brief flare in Ghorman's night sky, I quickly discovered just how hard Imperial ships had became as a result of my RebEd tweaking.

The debacle at Ghorman cost the Alliance both Mon Cals and the Gunship, Regina. But hay....I just might have a fight on my hands....

Anyway, so there you are. Goes to show you perhaps anything is possible in our game! I was wrong when I stated the AI will only build one during the game.

This does make one little project i'm determined to find out about during the game by sending Leia off alone to blow one of them up. She'll get herself captured of course, but i'm certain there's a couple of eggs in the game concerning her Death Star escape.....

And that my patient friends is the tale of the Second Death Star, lets hope there isn't a third, because that really would freak me out. :(

Wrong again!

Sadly, i've got to report I don't think there are any additional eggs concerning Leia on the Death Star and her escape. Those WAV file revealed by Resource Hacker arn't appearing. I've tried everything. Leia's captured on one of these Death Stars, and i've tried everything to rescue her, just to try and sqeeze out some unheared sounds.....

I guess, there are elements in the game that were abandoned by the programers and will never happen during game-play. Damn!

What a breaktaking narration, you should perhaps try the RPG...

Anyway it is good (?) to know that there will be more than one DS per game.

I've had my own "Leia on the Death Star" experience. It was one of the first games I'd played, and I was doing pretty well on the medium difficulty setting, for a newbie. I had taken over several systems in the Sesswenna sector, including Averam, Yaga Minor, Svivren, and Chandrila. The empire controlled every system in the Corellian sector, and I had no idea what was going on there, aside form knowing they had a huge number of shipyards on Commennor.

I was stoked on the fact that my shipyards on Averam had produced my first bona-fide Mon Cal Cruiser. I (naively) figured I was finally gonna stick it those damned imperials and their ImpStars. So I grabbed Leia and put her on the Mon Cal, figuring it'd be the best protection for her, and built a fleet with a few Neb-B's and corvettes, then headed to Corsin to blockade the planet.

But when I got there, the tactical officer does his "Death Star Approaching" phrase and I about soil myself. Accompanying the DS was a lone Lancer Frigate and only ten fighters or so. Being new to the game, I panicked and retreated, only to see the DS blow my oh-so-beautiful, just-off-the-assembly-line, virginal Mon Cal Cruiser to smithereens...with Leia aboard.

The AAR (After Action Report) said that Leia was captured, and was being held on board the Death Star. I figured I'd re-create the events of ANH, and sent Luke, Han, and Chewie on a rescue mission, but they were based on Tangrene, so they had no chance of getting there before the DS left the system. In the meantime, the DS continues on...to my shipyards at Averam.

At least I'd had the foresight to build a starfighter defense at Averam. After having seen what a large contingent of X-Wings could do to ImpStars, I'd build roughly 10-15 squadrons of X-Wings there, as well as 3-4 squadrons of B-Wings. So when the DS and it's Lancer escort jumped in system, I figured I'd make them pay for blowing up my Mon Cal, and just wrote off Leia, figuring she'd be killed if and when I destroyed the DS.

So the battle begins, and I quickly vape the TIE escort, and after getting the report than a DS Trench Run can be attempted, I sic my X-Wings on the Lancer and send the B-Wings to attack the DS. It seemed to take forever for the B-Wings to get there, but I figured they'd easily be able to take it out. The cinematic ran (of the X-Wings; that was a disappointment), but they failed. I was crushed knowing that all four squadrons had been destroyed just like that {snaps fingers}.

Meanwhile, the 2 groups of X-Wings had taken out the Lancer, but there was only one group left consisting of six squadrons. Having no other option, I sent them on a trench run. Again the cinematic rolls, and this time they're successful. I jumped out of my chair, whooping and hollering in glee as the "DS destroyed" cinematic ran. That was SUCH a rush. After closing the AAR I got a message that Leia had escaped captivity, and was down on Averam.

And I haven't encounterd a DS since, in over five years of playing and some twenty-plus games.

Many Moons ago, Jahled wrote:

...the footage of the rebel-alliance victory where the rebel fleet shows up and 'dismantles' the SSD (curious how it seems to fall apart...not explode!).

I remember reading with stupefaction that the 18 kilometer long SSD could LAND on a planet (on a *very* specially constructed landing pad, but still). 8O But then I thought about it and it made sense. What could hold anything that size together? I'm no engineer but I don't think you could do it with the tensile strength of the building materials, no matter how advanced your materials and construction methods. The SSD can only be held together by using special "structural integrity" artificial gravity fields.

And so I was very impressed with the Rebel victory cutscene, which seems to show the Executor's gravity fields failing - which results in the very memorable way that it comes apart in layers. That scene actually haunted me for a long time after I saw it...

Put an overpowered Solar Ionization Reactor in between two cheap-ass engines and a couple of laser cannon, put a chair with a rudimentary flight control and targeting computer on top, and surround the (unpressurized!) pilot with enough armor plate so he doesn't fry in a tenth of a second... riiiiiiiiight

A deeply scientific approach to my wayward musings, my friend!

Just picture a hundred thousand Imperial personnel staring from their view ports in randomly floating sections of the 'dismantled' ship wondering where the heck they're going to be floating to... :?

The Imperial Victory is much better, all the rebel vermin just get incinerated along with their Mon Cal!

I dont know if it counts as landing but Lusankya was grounded on Imperial City. It took off but still it didnt land it was built there.
Why are people afraid to die? It is a natural part of life. Life and Death. They go together. Some people are just willing to speed up that process.

To be honest I almost only play as an Imperial, I just find the rebels, well

how can I put this without offending anyone, Inferior to the power of the Empire, or in other words The Empire is much more awesome in the ship, leaders part.
