Elfboy Posted November 10, 2002 Posted November 10, 2002 I remember last year that some of us were trying to figure out how to get the A.I. to create a Death Star. Well, I just destroyed one; this is what the situation was: I built up one sector and then waited 1000 days without doing anything but research and building one fleet. I lowered the maint capacity slightly for both sides for all the ships (trying to keep things more or less even). The maint cap for the Death Star was lowered to 450. The production for shipyards was lowered by a couple points. About day 1100 the Empire attacked my headquarters with a very large fleet and a Death Star. My Death Star run mission was successful and I won the battle. It scarred the hell out of me because Every char was at my headquarters so if I lost the battle I prob would have lost the game. This is the first time that I had ever seen a Death Star (without building my own). It was also the first time that I had messed with production rates and mant points so I know that's what did it. I will keep playing this game through and seen if I encounter more. I hope this helps anyone else still looking to face one. If I am wise, it is because I know that I know nothing.
glandry Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Hi Elfboy! I think we discussed this in the old forum. I use a similar technique to get the AI to build a death star. The empire always builds one now in my games. Usually, I meet it in a battle situation and have to take it out with a fighter run. In the meantime it blows up 1 or 2 of my best caps. Usually I manage to blow it up, sometimes my fleet gets wiped out. One time, it blew up a planet that Luke was one doing a diplomatic mission. He's a slippery fish indeed because he survived that and ended up on a nearby planet. I teamed him with Han and Chewie and they did a sabotage mission on the death star and succeeded! hehehe, blow up my planets and I'll blow up your death star. I never got the AI to build more than one though...
ElvisMiggell Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 How low have you taken the maintenance points? Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Elfboy Posted November 12, 2002 Author Posted November 12, 2002 It always annoyed me before that the game would put all of the chars you put in a fleet on one the weakest ships (corellian, escort carrier...). But now I've seen that a death star takes out the largest first. If I had switched my chars to one of the larger ship (like I usually do) then some of them prob would have been killed and the death star run may not have worked because my commander would have been gone. I'll appreciate this aspect from now on. How've you been Glandry. Does it feel like decades since you bought this game yet? If I am wise, it is because I know that I know nothing.
glandry Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Elvis, the last time I checked, the maint was at about 450 for the death star. Originally, I started this editing to see if I could get the AI to create a death star, but now I use it to make the game more challenging. I'll start a new thread on that when I get a minute. In the meantime, I'm going to try some death star fun and set the cost and maint to 100 each and see what happens... Guy
Guest JediIgor Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 The empire is victorious, and the petty rebellion has been crushed! Foolish Rebels! Mwhahahaahaa
UntimelyDemise Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 I've got a helluva fight on my hands...speaking of Death Stars, I have one in orbit around Coruscant as a defence. Add an Interdictor and about 75 squadrons of TIE Defenders, and this is dangerous territory, indeed! Now, if I can only find that damn Reb HQ... Guest JediIgor Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Don't forget a Death Star shield! Mwahahahahaha...!!
UntimelyDemise Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Oh, yes...I forgot to put that...hmmm... Is Igor freakin' out, or what? MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.--Napoleon Bonaparte I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.--Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman Support the USA!
ElvisMiggell Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Why can't you get the Alliance to build them, in the cards section youcan say who the shiups should be available to, and you can set it to the alliance, but when you get to the battle the Empire uses it. No fair!!! Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
glandry Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 Elvis, you use RebEd to take out the AI and then you say no fair?? Hehehe, RebEd has spoiled us...
UntimelyDemise Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 Definitely...I can't imagine playing the game without Palpy being able to train Jedi, or Rebel Bulk Cruisers having more punch, or that stupid Menndo card relaced by Grand Moff Tarkin, or....etc. etc. etc. We are truly spoiled... ElvisMiggell Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 I just want both sides to havve Death Stars. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Jahled Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I find the computer is so crap at being the Empire I very rarely play as the Alliance. The last time I did though I lowered the Death Star's build stats to about 10/10 and beefed up it's holding capacity to 48/36. Need I say the Computer quickly obliged. If i remeber correctly in the same game I also gave a similar incentive with the SSD and ISD, and also played turtle until about day 800. While I got a Death Star and acouple of SSDs 'to frighten and demoralize me,'the AIs so crap it failed to bundle all this firepower in one fleet and I was still able to wipe the board with a rebel rag-tag fleet. I've experiemented with various ways of getting the Empire AI to play a good game and still have yet to get it to work. Some one said elsewhere I guess the AI's a rebel at heart.... A tip though to anyone who wants to have the AI to build a Death Star, do what I did above and it definetly will, but to be sure leave the Empire's worlds alone for a while and concentrate on the outer rim. To much popular support for the rebellion lowers the Empire's popularity and building capability. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 Hmmm, be interesting to see how the AI plays as the Alliance if you give them Death Stars..... Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Jahled Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 The game would crash i'd imagine for the simple reason the game wont have any programming for the tactical game mode to say'Death Star approaching' and 'sensors indicate we can launch an attack on the Death Star,' or even better that bit of dialogue that happens when one of your ships is unfortunate enough to turn up at Coruscant with a waiting Death Star protected by a Death Star Shield. The game wont have any programming for Imperial Fighters to do the trench run either, so the game would probably crash again. However, it would be pretty cool if someone out there can be bothered to prove i'm wrong..... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 I'd have to agree with Jahled...I think the game would crash. There is no support available to change a Death Star to the Alliance (sounds, pics, etc.) Anyway, the Death Star is not like a fleet, it's special. That's why you can't have more than one DS in fleet...there is no way to use more than one in Tactical! There's only one "Fire button". That's too bad...a couple of DS's dropping in on the Rebel HQ would be...nifty Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.--Napoleon Bonaparte I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.--Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman Support the USA!
ElvisMiggell Posted November 23, 2002 Posted November 23, 2002 It doesn't crash the game. You, as the Rebels turn up in a system to battle the Imps, the first thing that happens in the action is that the Imps use the DS and fire on you! Which is a little bit annoying. Grrrrrrrrr Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Jahled Posted November 23, 2002 Posted November 23, 2002 Sir, are you implying that Imperial Intelligence is so effective that they've infiltrated an Alliance Death Star and at the onset of a battle force our own Death Star to fire upon our own Alliance ships. Good lord man, the situation is more grave than I can imagine.... I'm going to retire immediatly and open a bar on Nar Shaddaa, the rebellion is obviously doomed... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted November 25, 2002 Posted November 25, 2002 Indeed Sir, that is exactly what i am implying. This situation is most unfortunate, and does not bode well for our Rebel friends. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Elfboy Posted November 26, 2002 Author Posted November 26, 2002 Are you able to use the DS at all in combat? It would be funny if you were BOTH in control of it. It would be a race the entire battle to see who could fire the damn thing first. If I am wise, it is because I know that I know nothing.
UntimelyDemise Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 Now that would be funny! "Hurry! Push the damn button!!!" cries Lt. Hoorf, Alliance Squad Leader. "No...fill out the Imperial form 22456-DD-XY-847322-WOW in triplicate, and the Empire will grant permission for Commander Tumuchpayper of the Imperial Navy to fire the Death Star." one of the endless Imperial beauracrats states calmly. "To hell with you and your damn paperwork!!" screams Hoorf as he blasts a hole big enough for a Womprat to jump through in the politician. "Fire the las--" Imperial Stormtroopers dispatch with Lt. Hoorf, a being of little intelligence to begin with, with alarming precision. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.--Napoleon Bonaparte I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.--Robert McCloskey, State Department spokesman Support the USA!
Jahled Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 Yo! So when you play against the computer as the Alliance with an Alliance Death Star and you turn up in a tactical battle, the programming takes over and fires on one of your own ships..... interesting.... BUT... what about if you were playing against another HUMAN..... gosh, emmm... what would happen.... besides a game crash, do you think the Imperial player would be able to blast away at the rebel fleet with the rebel's own Death Star? I guess so, perhaps some things ( like the rebels having the thing their most morally oppossed to) just weren't meant to happen. As Ned Kelly said just before they hung him, ' Such is life..' http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted December 4, 2002 Posted December 4, 2002 Now i hadn't thought of that. Someone will have to try it out. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
the_mask Posted December 4, 2002 Posted December 4, 2002 I once changed a rebel ship to the Deathstar when I edited the savegames to find the values for the different ships. The one thing I couldn't do was destroy a planet, that much I remember. I don't remember, if I could use the superlaser in tactical, but the AI was definately not in control of my DS and didn't launch a fighter attack. Although the didn't have so much fighters left, when my X-Wings plunged through them http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
