Lancer Frigate

Lancer Frigate is an Imperial capital ship in Star Wars: Rebellion. The in-game encyclopedia describes it as a combat starship about 250 meters long. The Empire designed it to fight Rebel starfighters. Work on it began soon after a few Rebel X-wings and Y-wings destroyed the Death Star.

In the game

The Lancer Frigate costs 14 refined material to build and 30 to maintain. It carries no fighters or troops. Its shield strength is 300.

The infobox values come from the game's data file. Ratings such as hyperdrive and maneuverability are internal numbers that the manual does not explain, so they are best used to compare ships.

The manual's ship table gives the same capacity: 0 fighters and 0 troops. It also describes it as a ship designed to withstand Rebel fighters.

The Lancer Frigate is a Lancer-class frigate built by Kuat Drive Yards for the Galactic Empire, designed specifically to defend larger ships against enemy starfighters.

Designers made this frigate class to deal with starfighters, whose growing prominence and effectiveness had been demonstrated by the Death Star's destruction. With many laser cannons mounted on it, the Lancer-class was very good at screening bigger Imperial ships from fighters. Putting them into service marked a change of approach in the Imperial Navy, which now admitted it needed vessels dedicated to anti-starfighter work to shield its capital ships against nimble Rebel fighters. This narrow specialty made Lancer frigates an important element of Imperial efforts to hold space superiority.
