RebEd
RebEd (the Rebellion Editor, also written RebED) is the community's classic editor for Star Wars: Rebellion, written by Revolution. It changes unit stats and pictures, and saves whole sets of changes so they can be shared. Its last version is 0.26, which supports fully replacing many of the game's units. It replaced SWRE, an older DOS editor by Mach Demon, and covers everything SWRE did as a full Windows program.
Rebellion must be installed in full for RebEd to be able to edit everything.
Cards
RebEd loads changes to individual units through cards. Each card overwrites one existing unit (a character, fighter, capital ship, facility, troop, special force or defense) with new stats and pictures. Cards cannot add new units. The file extension is .R?C, with the middle letter showing the unit type, such as c for character or f for fighter.
The SWR guide to making cards walks through the process: plan the unit, prepare a good picture (unit pictures are 200 pixels high, so the subject should be well lit and at least 100-150 pixels tall in the source image), then set the stats, save the card and load it.
Total conversions
A total conversion (TC) bundles many card and DLL changes into one .REB settings file through RebEd's Load Setting feature, turning the game into a different scenario that loads in one step.
DLLEntries.txt
Some pictures live inside the game's DLL files. RebEd's DLLEntries.txt records where those entries are, so their pictures can be replaced. Each TC needs its own DLLEntries file for its picture changes to load. RebEd is only known to handle bitmap resources correctly.
Download
RebEd is in the SWR downloads.
