Lucas has nothing to do with this game.

I suspect they wasn't able to balance the ship very well without changing it to something it's not. The number of fighter squadrons that ship is able to carry, and the fact Imperial fighters arn't taking up any pop cap, I believe they would have to scale down the amount of flight groups it can launch at once.

I don't understand why the Acclamator - a MUCH older ship - remains, while the Venator is axed.

The Acclamator is a heavily armed troop transport, while the Acclamator II is like a heavy frigate. Both of these designs are used by the Empire due to not having any serious competitors filling in their niché, which might not be the case for the Venator.

However, since its fighter-carrying capabilities exceed those of the Imperator and Victory, there could be a place for it as a heavily armed carrier. *Looks at previous posts*

Whoops, there's that balancing issue... Still, having a dedicated carrier that can launch more fighters at a time, while more vulnerable than the Imperator would be fun. And probably balanced as well.

If this is indeed a prelude to a Clone Wars expansion, I refuse to buy that expansion out of principle. Games should be completed.

The Acclamator was such a usefull Troop transport that the Imperial Armada kept the design in circulation for a long period of time. In fact even the post ROTJ fleets of the Cloned Emperor had many of the ships.

This is so frustrating if true. I recall it being used to quell the old SSD debate. "Well we are going for an earlier timeframe, so no SSD. But you will get the earlier ships like the Venator" :: sigh ::

At least I can look to my fellow nerd heroes at Legacy of War, for my salvation. *salutes*

Venators, Executors, and Lancers! Oh my!

Lucas has nothing to do with this game.

WRONG, Lucasarts has everything to do with this game. If Petro does one thing and Lucas tells them to desist, then they have to or get sued. Its probably why the Venator and all the good stuff was taken out

The need for a expansion might not exist with the mods that are already being developed.

(you know technicly if all the mods combined it would be better than any expansion.)

First of all, don't yell at me!

Second of all, Lucas is not the same as LucasArts.

Much the same way squadron isn't the same as squad (just to take a current example these days).

-on topic!!!!!1-

why do wo care? if it is out there must be a reason! the mods will put it in and if an expansion does first oh well i at least will wait for a mod to add this stuff cuz i am not payin for what the evil lucas minions took out

Delphi has said before, while they support mods they aren't as professional as the actual game, so that is why expansions are done (that and money...

 )

I will be kind of mad if they take out the venator (one of my fav ships) out for a marketing ploy.

would modding a SSD be difficult..... I want the Executor

I doubt that the devs have even read the Dark Empire series. Not that I'd blame 'em - those books are either loveable or detestable. But there was no concept of the Acclamator back then; those books were written in the early early 90's, way before the prequels.

But anyway, the absence of the Venator with the unexplained remaining presence of the Acclamator would indeed be justifiable if the Acclamator were being used as an efficient troop transporter, like you said. It's not, however. Its use is just as a light frigate; that's all. Hence, my confusion at an Episode II starship being present in a game that spans from III-IV, paired with the absence of an Episode III starship. It was a very arbitrary decision that contradicted what we were told directly by Delphi. :?

That they were, but in a recent re-release one of the new covers had an Acclamator on it.

No, both main variants were used by the Empire, the dedicated warship seen in EAW (the Acclamator Mk. II) and the Acclamator Mk. I transport (seen in SW Empire issues 30-34 and 36).

In DE I issue 1, there's a Venator-ish ship in orbit around Byss. It has an elongated rear going far behind the command tower, but otherwise resembles a Venator. Funny coincidence.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/CptK/StarCruiser.jpg

I don't think they can remove the Venators and keep the Aclamators :) it will be strange and funny.

As for LEC people - they are young and they do try their best.

They are still doing a lot of modifications inside the game for better balance so if the Venator is unbalanceing the game give the Rebels another ship to counter it.

I do hope that the 50 extra models that were disabled are in the games files ready to be enabled by moders.

This Venator / Aclamator issue its the same like the one with the shields and they did modified 85% vof the maps to put the generators inside. So maybe in the end we will have the best solution availeble.

so Cain what Sgip do you suggest they give the Rebels that can Counter Balance the Venator?

The fleet carriers they had. Can't remember the actual designation, but I remember one was the Flurry. That would work if the Venator were a carrier, but since Delphi said it was an all-arounder then I'd say the Assault Frigate MK1.

Well, it depends on how the Venator works in game as to what vessel should have been brought in to balance it out.

If the Venator acts as a fleet carrier there are a number of choices available:

Quasar Fire Class Bulk Cruiser (Examples of this class include the Flurry)

Escort Carrier (Used by both the Rebels and Empire, examples include the Hydra from XvT Balance of Power)

If the Venator acts as a heavy frigate capable of launching a limited number of starfighters an even wider variety of options appears:

MC 40 Lusla Class

Rendili Star Drive Dreadnaught

Rendili Star Drive Bulk Cruiser

Invinvible Class Dreadnaught
