December 5, 200520 yr I wonder about the usefulness about Victory Star destroyer: how much it will be upgradable? and its usefulness on ground battle (I mean battle on planets)? - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
December 5, 200520 yr My guess is it will be the workhorse for your early fleets. You probably wont start with the ISD. I dont know, however, if it will be able to affect ground battles. Having it send down orbital bombardments would be very cool, though! I do know that TIE bombers can go bombing runs on ground forces.
December 5, 200520 yr Author No I mean attacking with its turbolasers enemy bases - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
December 5, 200520 yr Attacking enemy bases with turbolasers is a great orbital bombardment advantage for any ship with such a capability, but the VSD has the unique tactic, from Star Wars books I've read, to be able to actually come into the atmosphere and bombard from there. I don't know why I haven't heard of other ships doing the same thing though. Who has some more info on this, and could it be one of those unique time limited ship skills like the ISDs deploying free TIE Fighters?
December 5, 200520 yr From the Wikipedia: "One notable feature of the Victory-class is that it is one of the largest ships capable of operating effectively in the atmosphere of a planet. This gives it an advantage over its larger cousins in planetary assault scenarios, where it can be used to provide close-support for ground forces, and to intimidate the enemy. This advantage did not prevent it from being phased out and replaced by new classes as the main warship of the Empire, but it did ensure that the Victory was often assigned to invasion or policing fleets to make use of this ability." It's a shame we can't use the ship this way in the game. "I aim to misbehave."
December 5, 200520 yr Thanks for the Wiki Grey_Raven. I think I'll check that out a bit more often now.
December 6, 200520 yr Author ok that's good, for ground assaults I think I'm gonna use the Victory a lot - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
December 6, 200520 yr ok that's good, for ground assaults I think I'm gonna use the Victory a lotbut we dont know if we will be able to do that in the game
December 6, 200520 yr Author well, it says that the Victory is the only one that can enter atmosphere, so why we shoulnd't? - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
December 6, 200520 yr because they maynot have put that in because it can only be utilised as a Orbital Bombardment method. if the ORbital Bombardment is none existent then there is no need for this Activity it would be a waste of Code. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
December 6, 200520 yr Many of you have played SW Rebellion and have a good idea of their Obital Bombardment techniques: There was an option to target Military, Civilian, or just engage in a General Bombardment. Each ship offered a bombardment bonus from 0 to 5. The VSD was pretty high. So that may be how they make the VSD special.
December 6, 200520 yr I think the VSD will likely be what it really was in rebellion: a cheaper, albeit little bit weaker, alternative to the ISD. In Rebellion it was faster to just build an escort carrier to have the fighters of the ISD and build a VSD to have the guns.
December 6, 200520 yr You are not able to attack targets on the surface with a VSD in EaW. For this part you have the Orbital Bombardment with X-Wings or even TIE-Fighters. http://www.sw-eaw.de/jpg/banner6.jpg
December 7, 200520 yr You are not able to attack targets on the surface with a VSD in EaW. For this part you have the Orbital Bombardment with X-Wings or even TIE-Fighters. I don't think we have seen confirmation of Orbital Bombardment of any type. The attacks on the surface will primarily be conducted by Y-Wings and Tie Bombers from what we have seen. There have been screenshots of X-Wings engaged on the surface, but how or to what extent, we don't know yet. December 8, 200520 yr Teradyn is right they havent confirmed it offically but its looking more and more likely. it says in the Gamespot written preview about halfway down (or at least some where) something about orbital bombardments. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
January 12, 200620 yr Author hmm so I cannot hope to use the VSD's turbolasers to siege the rebel base? - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
January 12, 200620 yr Even if they did put in orbital bombardment in at the last minute, there is .00001% chance that they would model the Victory Destroyer entering the atmosphere to bombard. January 13, 200620 yr Author oh no!!! how is that possible? - I have you now! - Obi-wan never told you what happened to your father... - If you only knew the power of the Dark Side... - Evacuate? In Our Moment of Triumph?*BOOM*"Visit Spriters Resource at their new home!"
January 13, 200620 yr Mods are your best hope. Also looking at the model for the VSD, am I the only one that thinks its the Victory II Model? January 13, 200620 yr I think it is too Stellar. Thats why they cannot land or do low orbit Bombardment. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
January 13, 200620 yr You know VSDs also have hyperspace ratings of 1, instead of 2 like most other capital ships, so they can keep up with fighters while jumping. The winglike protrusions on it are atmospheric stability fins, however we may not see it ingame in the atmosphere due to technical aspect of doing htat and depends on how flexible the game engine logic is http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/6843/cygnussiggy5dn.jpgwww.cncnz.comFenton
January 14, 200620 yr Well if they can have TIE bombers do a bombing run, why not a VSD? January 14, 200620 yr Even if they did put in orbital bombardment in at the last minute, there is .00001% chance that they would model the Victory Destroyer entering the atmosphere to bombard. They wouldn't have to! It would be far too high in the atmosphere to see. All which would be required is for a sort of 'artillery' graphic of where the turbolasers actually hit. The user wouldn't have to physically see the craft in any way.
January 14, 200620 yr Well, in that case, what would be special about the VSD rather than say an ISD? Accuracy, rate of fire, etc? My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
January 14, 200620 yr So what is the VSD's special move if orbital bombardment hasnt been added? http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
