November 20, 200520 yr I have looked around the forum, and i haven't seen this anywhere so here is my question. Will the bodies fade away into the ground like in SWGB? Or will they be like some other RTS's where they just vanish, or will they stay there? http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/1135/jmaster3265signew13rd.jpg
November 20, 200520 yr It should be a graphical option. Even old games like Total War have had bodies stay indefinitely, so there's no reason why they should fade away.
November 21, 200520 yr I think that they'll stay there. At least in the campaign. Keep in mind, the units aren't being PRODUCED during battles, so there's a limited amount of units that can be killed, or structures that can be destroyed.
November 21, 200520 yr Space vessels that were destroyed stay as part of the scenery don't they? If they do then it's very likely that the bodies and tracks will remain. Dawn of War had an option to keep to bodies permently. Just imagine a pile of rebel trooper bodies. http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4305/cap2073na.pngTime to do some damage.
November 21, 200520 yr Mayby you could use an old destryed AT-AT as cover. Evacuate, in our moment of triumph. I think you overestimate their chances. November 21, 200520 yr that would be interesting, but i know the smaller vehicals like tanks just blow up and leave a detonationring, unless that is going to be changed from the trailers, which i doubt.
November 22, 200520 yr Dead units stay for a while but dissapear du to save memory capacity. Perhaps you will be able to set the amount of time dead bodies stay persistent but I doubt it. http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar
November 22, 200520 yr Author Dead units stay for a while but dissapear du to save memory capacity. Perhaps you will be able to set the amount of time dead bodies stay persistent but I doubt it. Where did you learn this from? Or just a theory? http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/1135/jmaster3265signew13rd.jpg
November 22, 200520 yr Little.B has played the game demo (A game demo I should say) at one of the german games conventions. Compared to the most of us, his experience of the game is better because of this. Therefore what he says is probably based on his observations from actually playing an early version of it. November 22, 200520 yr They disappeared in the Games Convention demo. The "to save memory" thing is just because persistent bodies take a lot of memoy and not every computer is able to handle this. But as ever: what they showed was still in an early stage so things may have changed http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar

November 22, 200520 yr I would think that body persistancy could be modded, too. XML = God's jackhammer.
November 25, 200520 yr Well, this is strange: the bodies do dissapear in the new footage. BUT In the oldest video footage I know of (the very first release: the one that starts off with the one-on-one ISD vs. Mon Cal, and then goes to Darth Vader hacking away at Jawas ), there is body persistency. The Jawa bodies that Vader and the 2-M Repulsortanks kill stay dead and lying on the ground, indicating that this option just might possibly be toggleable. I hope that this wasn't an aspect that they just axed.
November 25, 200520 yr problem is you let the dead bodies sit there, and then more and more pile up it can become really taxing on a system, and especially some of the older ones. So they will ethier dissapear, or fade away. Bodies staying just does not seem like a good option from a analitcal standpoint. November 25, 200520 yr But they could have the third option to make them stay. Well note it was just a clip and wanted to rush it up and get a new group into the spot for another rushed showing. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
November 25, 200520 yr well it shouldn't matter right? November 25, 200520 yr Hulks will vanish overtime, this is for performance reasons. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
November 25, 200520 yr Thanks for your wealth of information these days, Delphi! You've had a cloaking device on you for some time. This may sound like a typical add-on question at this point, but will hulk (I assume this means 'body') persistency be a toggleable option, or a moddable XLM property?
November 25, 200520 yr This may sound like a typical add-on question at this point, but will hulk (I assume this means 'body') persistency be a toggleable option, or a moddable XLM property? Yes, though I wouldn't recommend it. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
November 25, 200520 yr Out of curiosity, why is it then that Imperial walkers out of all units do get persistency when they are destroyed?
November 26, 200520 yr Maybe depending on the unit we get different time frames for how long the persistency lasts. I mean, every unit has some persistence, whether it be for 5 seconds or 20. Maybe the AT-AT just has a longer time to fade away than the troops etc. "And the moral of the story is: Appreciate what you've got, because basically; I'm fantastic." ~ Holly, Red Dwarfhttp://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y143/Lord_Darkmark/Forcedbanner01.jpghttp://www.starwarsforced.co.uk
November 26, 200520 yr I'm not going to be a pessimist here, but I just don't think Petroglyph/LEC has deemed body persistency to be that important. Games like Rome: Total War have shown us that it's possible to have thousands of dead bodies on the ground without affecting performance too much. But I really don't blame them, it would take valuable time to optimize dead bodies that they could definitely spend somewhere else improving the rest of the gameplay. Plus, I am sure some modder here will make a "dead bodies stay" toggle mod now that Delphi has said its possible.
November 26, 200520 yr Out of curiosity, why is it then that Imperial walkers out of all units do get persistency when they are destroyed? They don't, we've tweaked this within the last month. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
