I watched most of it...except for a few minutes when the baby was a bit unhappy .

 

I thought he did very well. He has made the case for war with Iraq in my eyes, though I suppose some would like Iraq to detonate a nuclear warhead before they decide Iraq needs to be disarmed...

 

I also thought his AIDS policy was a good idea, although money won't stop the problem. Education is the key in Africa.

 

Hydrogen powered cars...a great idea, but Detroit will fight that tooth and nail (as will OPEC and all other oil producers).

Hmmm, i hope that's a joke, otherwise, well kinda sick really. I'm always reluctant to agree to any military action, however, as a Christian i believe that the world has satisfied, and will continue to satisfy the criteria as set by the Just War Theory.

 

I do not understand the need for missile defence, the main threat to me seems to be bombs, not missiles, i would think that the money could be better spent on increasing security at ports. I work for the Home Office, and if you've heard anything about the problems we've had with asylum seekers, then you'll begin to understand the importance of things like xray and microwave scanning.

 

However, i did not see the address and have not read a transcript, so this is pure conjecture really.

Securing the seaports will help against terrorism.. if a country decides to go war with the US and has nuclear warheads (and decide to use their nuclear weapons), I'm more then sure they will launch it via a missile

Nah, Colin Powell made a big thing of the fact that Saddam has missiles that have a maximum range of 750miles. That wouldn't hit Great Britain, let alone America. It would have to be sea launched. ICBM's are exceedingly difficult to make, compared to shrt range ones compareable to SCUDs.

They can hit Israel though and every other country in the Middle East. Which means he can basically blackmail the entire world, because he can control the oil. Think about it: this is the majority of the world's oil supply. This means the cars you drive, the planes you fly: this affects the whole world.

 

While they say all we care about is oil, it is something mostly everyone cares about because it affects everyone. And no, if we'd wanted all the oil by ourselves, we'd have taken it 12 years ago. Look at France more... they would rather appease this menace to protect their business interests rather than removing him.

 

If he gets a nuke, he can just give it to Al-qaeda. With the recent reports stating a total lack of security at our borders, it is very likely that we could have a nuke exploded on our own terf. Al-qaeda showed they could do it, that nothing would stop them. If we cannot control our borders and stop the source of weapons, I fear that every free nation is in jeopardy.

Not just the free nations either. Oil is a main factor though, if it werent for oil we(the US) wouldnt have as much interest in the Middle East. Im not saying that its the only reason though. its just an important factor.

Personally, i'm a little bit more worried by the Stalinist-fascists in North Korea than the dubious charges against Iraq...haven't they just stated they would consider a first strike against North America?

 

And at the same time have got their begging bowl out because their population is starving! Don't take a genius to understand that if you spend all your money on weapons you just might not have enough left over to feed you people! Absolute stupidity!

Okay, mostly fair points all. But what sort of defence program are they suggesting? A Star Wars platform? Air based plasma/laser systems? Or American landbased Patriot 2 systems? Essentially, is it something that can protect all countries, or just America?

Evaders, the good thing is, that Saddam wouldn't dare attack Israel with nukes. He bragged about it in the Gulf War, but he knew as well as everyone else, that his missiles wouldn't have hit a stone before he had more incoming than he had just launched.

That's just like the situation at the end of 'Wargames' now, isn't it ?

 

Let's hope the situation at North Korea doesn't end like the last Bond movie ,btw. Rogue13 is missing for some time now... oh oh
