I think, perhaps, what he's trying to say is that you need a third variable for which to have the 'same difference'. For example, my hair is brown and my eyes are blue. Therefore, you and I have the 'same difference' in eye-color from Elvis'.

That would indeed be the correct interpretation of the phrase 'same difference'.
