I modelled a hand a while ago for a project, and then the suggestion went around to make it into Mitth's hand - and I had a different idea

I just had a play around with a plugin called glu3d, which simulates fluids via a rather intensive (yet far less intensive than Max's inbuilt) particles system.

Free ... yeah. Umm, not even close, it's a couple of hundred dollars, but there is a 30 day trial version. It's a great plugin if you need to do liquids/fluids.

Ah, some people have talent in the area even if they don't know. And if you don't, you'll obviously compensate with some other skill.

Personally, I also try to distinguish the difference between a designer and artist - simply because the majority of artists usually have some deeper meaning to their works.

Yeah I would but... My job doesn't pay enough for me to be able to afford good programs and I'm not really into illegal downloading of programs, so I use what I have.

No problems there, I can't say I'm a fan of pirating, but I also can't say that I agree with paying thousands of dollars for software that's buggy and flawed. Well, at least when you're trying to learn it and build up a portfolio ...

 

Anyway, try the Gimp software for something a little above Paint. It's free

What's truely woo about this, apart from looking great, is the fact you got it down to 26kb!!

 

I persuaded the head of our department to get in Photoshop CS and it was installed yesterday! What a program, and I thought PS version 7 was awesome! All the more woo is the one licenced program in the entire society and zoo is on my workstation.

Yes, Photoshop is a god like program in the software universe. Still I hope that new titans will rise someday and make the market more diverse.

 

Gimp is a nice try. Atleast something.

I think the success of Firefox could be adapted here somehow.

Free graphics programs aren't common but the two big ones would have to be Blender and GIMP.

I'll have to check gimp out then.

Just tryed GIMP and got frustrated. That software is complicated as hell. It opens all sort of small windows, just can't get oversight

I have my degree in Mechanical Engineering but I am currently working in the Aerospace Industry. I plan to eventually get my graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
