That is all interesting. I wonder how they determine how to show the relative strengths of the fleets. You could take a fleet that has had all of its weapon hardpoints knocked out, for example, with minimal hull damage and would it show up as a viable force?

I don't like the EU as a whole, because as a whole it isn't very consistent. I was of the opinion before Episode I that only Lucas should write Star Wars stories, now I think no one should...

Beautiful find there, Makwu. I don't think I noticed any of that before. The only thing I am wondering though, is. Why on the second picture is the hardpoint value and shields for it almost at the same value? What are shields supposed to do if not protect the thing they are shielding? Are they like AC in D&D? And is that Canon?

My problem with buying this game is that the other one took up so much time and I have so many games that I like to play that I don't have time for em all let alone another one! Curse having to work and living with GF. I got as much or more "action" when we were living separately and I got to play more games. And that was when I was going to school too!

True, magic is more the explaination for an unexplained occurence. People have expanded on that to make it a mystical energy that lets people do things outside of physics, reality, etc. My comment on magic was more of a joking idea, hence the .

I don't know. We might want to find out if they have heard and/or considered some of the massive evidence against putting the ground shield generator outside of the shields first. If they have heard and are dead set on where they have put it, we shouldn't even waste the question on this since they are going to be going with whatever they want anyway. [rant] Better to ask questions about bombardment from space by cap ships and what keeps the shield generator from being destroyed by that since it just has to be outside the shields. And might also want to ask why Vader's command ship and its accompanying fleet couldn't muster up the firepower to destroy the shield generator on Hoth in ESB when apparently the thing can be destroyed by a few passes by some tie bombers? GRRRRRRR. [/rant]

Empress's Tet... wa?

That is the single biggest understatement since "That's too big to be a space station."

As anyone can tell you that has played Rebellion, if one of your planets goes neutral, it is usually followed by a cascade of other planets in your system going neutral and enemy in quick succession. A bit extreme in my opinion. A general hit yes, but not to that degree.

As for a real dragon, there was something I read about an old ship report of sea serpents that were big enough to attack a ship and spat some kind of corrosive acid. Acid burns and so does fire, so there you have one possible origin for fire breathing serpent. A few stories later, the serpent (a reptile) turns into a lizard (reptile) and just to make it more scary and explainable it gets wings (much more formidable and mysterious) and naturally it has to get bigger with each story too. Voila! Big winged lizard type critter that breaths fire. Take this story as it moves to Europe and compair it to the common serpent/snake type dragon in the Asian countries and think about the acid spitting sea serpent as the common source and it all makes some sort of odd sense. Less conventionally, if you think about the magical nature associated with dragons, who is to say that they leave a corpse after they die anyway?

Anyone ever thought that we may be fighting natural selection a little too hard? Natural selection does include a creatures intellect, physical abilities, environmental adaptability, etc. A good analogy would be the herd of wildabeasts. In nature they move on and the sick or old are at the back or edge of the herd. The hunting cats feed on those that are in the back and are left behind when the herd bolts from danger. Our society is moving toward the mentality that the entire herd must slow to the pace of the old and sick and protect and help them along. One problem is that the cats that are out there would love a bigger, healthier prey and since the entire herd is moving slow and wont budge, every single one of the herd is in danger now. A herd that moves like this will attract even more cats wanting easy, fat prey. Before the end of this century our herd will be set upon by a large variety and numerous cats. We will learn the hard way that the nice idealistic views many have embraced about the way the world should work are not real and never have been.

Those four engines are the hyperdrive engines according to the original schematics.

Heh, yes, our British accents are vastly superior! Empire Über Alles! Er, oops. (It was my uniform that made me do that )

Even though they were used incorrectly in the games, I remember (i think correctly) that maybe X-Wing or X-Wing alliance got their function (if they had actually been shield generators) right. You had to get the shields on the Star Destroyer down before you could damage them and if you did, the shields stopped regenerating. This is my query though, what can we deduce from the videos so far? I remember that in one, an Imperial fleet moved in and the fighters and bombers were sent to attack a Mon Cal. This was E3 video I think. Anyway, the bombers made a couple attacks on the Mon Cal and it looked like there was no shield graphics/interaction at all. It may be because the bombs/missles can penetrate shields somewhat due to their solid properties or whatever (see discussions on ray shielding vs deflector shields). Another video (first one where we see the death star fire on a planet, not the trailer), shows a very large force of Imperials move in and engage a large group of rebels. Almost immediately things start blowing up on the respective ships which leads me to believe either they dont have the shields modeled yet (waiting on particle effects, balance issues, etc?) or this is how it will be.

I agree completely. There is too much ambiguity(sp?) with reguard to so many of the specifics at this point as to frustrate completely. The interview really confused things about the Death Star. In rebellion you could not have 2 Death Stars at the same planet but you could conceivably have 1 at every planet. The death star was off the map there too, but to attack it the rebels had to have x number star fighter superiority and they activated a special command that sent one group at the death star area. The attack was calculated, rolled, etc and a movie played with the Death Star being destroyed or the attackers. What he might have meant is that you can take a squadron of fighter and right click on the death star instead of hitting a special option, but how does that information help us? He didn't really mention anything useful about whether or not you can attack it with, say, a Mon Cal. If you can it would have to be a unit in the battlefield. A couple of screenshots do lead to the possibility of the Death Star being an actual unit in terms of presence (maybe not movement). The one showing the trench run with real time action going on in the background and the one where a rebel fleet is moving toward a planet and you see the Death Star in an orbit around it with a different position relative to everything. Who knows. These interviews and questions are more irritating than helpful and who knows if we will get a straight answer at all from the live chat? They seem pretty consistent on telling us nothing.
-
I don't think I would like that at all. It would be more a matter of rebellion getting so far out of hand that the populous was able to overcome the garrison there and destroy it. Because if the garrison was there, then the rebellion could be dealt with. Having stormtroopers turn doesn't much make sense. I certainly hope they dont do it this way.
-
I will go with the they don't have it completely done yet answer on this one. A unique problem exists. How do you limit, say ground troops? Since you can drop them on a planet, say they give a common land map limit of 200. Say even 200 groups and units so if you have a group of 12 stormtroopers that is produced at once, you could have 200 of these. Alright then... we fixed that and now on to something else... Wait. Some silly tester has brought all of their troops from all of their planets and tried to drop them on the same planet! Now what?

Remember that there were 3 Death Stars between before ANH and RoTJ.

Well, I don't disagree with you Garbageben and Popcorn2008, that the domes will probably be shield generators in the game. I do dissagree with the idea that it is right in any way shape or form. Lucas may want to skew, self-contradict, screw up, etc the story of Star Wars, but that doesn't make it right. It is a pretty sad state of affairs when the author can't even keep his own story straight. Not to mention all of the horribly obviously "Hollywood" extras and changes thrown into Ep I-III just to make more "money".
-
This is from the reference that Makwu linked to: The domes are Sensors... end of story. Whether or not Petroglyph gets this right, however, is another story entirely. I have reason to suspect that given their misguided interpretation of the situation on Hoth and the shield generator placement that they will show the domes to be shield generators like in most of the Star Wars flight simulator games: X-Wing, Rebel Strike, Rogue Squadron, etc.

Death Star + Naboo = Problem Solved.
-
You mean who from Petroglyph or who people? And if the latter, how someone get in? I understood IRC chats to be open with moderators.
-
What the heck does this mean? Do they realize how big the death star is? This answers nothing. Does he mean you can take a group of x-wings and right click on the Death Star to initiate an attack? And the only one Death Star thing irritates me. If it is so expensive, why not let us build 2? And if we lose it, can we replace it or not? Don't like any of the answers in this interview at all. They are either a dissapointment, don't provide enough information to be of any use, or are completely not answered at all! Confidence in this game is faltering.

The only EU books I had ever read were the Thrawn Trilogy. And that was a long time ago... far far... bah... I won't do it .

Star destroyer landing on planets...

Come on now, it will be incredibly cheesy for the balance to be handled in that way when you can clearly see the accurate targetting performed in space.
