Re: What do you think of the balance: MULTIPLAYER?
Delphi-PG replied to Jameswgm's topic in EAW General Discussion
Thanks! So far so good, but with a little more work on connectivity and gameplay it could be a great MP experience. We're working on it. Expect to see more patches soon. =) -
Basically replay was temporarily disabled so that we could tweak and enhance it for ease of use. There were also some bugs associated with it that needed addressed. So, we do greatly apologize for the inconvenience but I promise you it will be working and functional in the next patch. =) I know we are going to get panned, but we would rather fix it and implement it right than give you something that may or may not work.

They put out 2 patches in two days. i really think they are going to continue in fixing the MP issues that have arisen. You bet we'll keeping working on fixing the issues. Networking is a bit tricky, and may take some time for a solid solution.

Ever play a Blizzard RTS online? All the time! If you are implying, that we need to a battle.net like service I could not agree more. The question is, how do we build that type of infrastructure without cash? We'll get there, in the mean time we have to do the best with what we have. We'll find a solution guys, I promise.
-
Of course more patches are planned. 1.02 was to fix the disconnect issue from the server, not connecting issues. Connecting issues are going to take more time. We'll nail them though. Honestly, in my 10 years of RTS games, this is actually very normal for a game with high online traffic.

Well, the short answer is the next patch. ETA, in the immediate future.

All done, be back later. =)

I'll be online for the next hour on the U.S. server. 8:30 - 9:30 A.m. http://pff.swrebellion.com/http://www.swrebellion.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=9.0

Patches are good, but patches that are out before the game say something bad.. So we are not allowed to fix things after the game has gone gold? You're saying it would be better to wait than be proactive? Sorry, not going to happen with this team. ;D Plan on seeing more patches.
-
Why would it have to be an addon? Content can be added in the free patches. =)
-
there is no 44 planet 2player campgien that drivers me nuts Not yet anyway. =)
-
Yes, we have indeed been busy and I do greatly apologize. The patch was one of the reasons, but there is another that I can't go into detail just yet. ;D We'll do our best to pop in on occasion, all I ask is you guys don't get too mad at me. It's a bit hard being both a game designer and community dood.

Good game! Yes the patch has been in QA for two weeks. We found issues and wanted to address them. Lets just say we want to make sure EAW is fun. I expect more issues to arise, so expect to see more patches. =)

Re: Seven questions answered from Delphi
Delphi-PG replied to Junker's topic in EAW General Discussion
but still, you cant have emps and rebs on the same team Correct, that's because the game was not designed like a traditional RTS. Remember this was a "MODE" we put into EAW. The game was not built around it. -
I hope EAW has LAN Support, is it supported Delphi? Of course!

That my friend is the Planet Illum Bingo!

Their system makes it pretty impossible to pin the blame on one player due to every player sharing the same base. From our early tests, players are rather enjoying this new feature. ;D -

Players can team up to take on AI opponents. I would not have let something fans so love be left out of the game. Heck, the design crew (myself included) just did a comp stomp today to test some AI balance tweaks. =) -
4X the damage? is there a point for that? I thought that retreating was supposed to reduce losses It does, but requires the player to use more tactics and strategies when engaging the enemy. If your units get away, they get away safely. =)
-
All very good suggestions, thanks! ;D Interesting to see the idea about base customization. You guys are aware there are penalties in place for retreat? When initiated, the player on the retreat will take 4x damage, also ships can't be moved during this process. There a lot more too it, but I thought this would help. Instant repair? I know many of you hard core have issues, but if you have a company of 40 plus people who developed the game and love the idea vs repair overtime and 100's of focus testers from the hardcore to casual that voted IR; it's a bit hard to argue. Honestly, there are about 10 other things I'd like to see in the game before we go back and visit this as a game idea. Who's to say we won't? I just want my 10 other things first.

The match making system is very easy to use. I think you'll like it. Players will be able to quick match for tournament play or go into a custom game lobby and setup their own unique games. Wish I could post a screen shot. =(

Hi Guys, Another Designer (Darth Torpid) answered some questions over at the Lucas forums. I wanted to make sure they were posted here as well. Sorry I haven't been posting much. I'm pulled into post-launch planning for EAW which involves patches, balance work, and game enhancements. I'll be back in full gear soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (1)Are there firing range indications both for ground and space units? We cannot see any in the demo, which, in many cases ends up brining your forces to close to the enemy and get annihilated (not to mention those torpedo launchers that un-deploy automatically from their defense points). Generally the firing ranges of the units are not indicated. Some of the special abilities that have an area of effect will show that area when the ability is activated. You can also see if something is in range by watching the mouse cursor when you attempt to target something. (2) I have a clarification question is the regular edition CD and the collectors’ edition DVD? I'm curious to know if the collectors’ edition is DVD I haven't decided which one to get yet. Here's the SKU list as I have it: US English (1 DVD, extra bonus disk) US English (2 CD) UK/SP/IT (1 DVD) English VO (Spanish/Italian HUD and Tutorial VO) with Spanish/Italian on-screen text UK English (2 CD) German (1 DVD) – full localization French (1 DVD) – full localization Polish (1 DVD) – full localization Russian (1 DVD) – full localization Japanese (1 DVD) – text localization only Canadian French (1 DVD) - full localization Asia/Pacific UK English (2 CD) Brazil UK English (2 CD) Mexico US English (2 CD) Note that this is subject to change but should be relatively trustworthy. (3)What effects happen when major characters are taken out: Leia, Luke, Emperor, Vader, etc. With some exceptions, heroes have a re-spawn timer that activates when they are defeated in combat (whether in space, land, or taken out by a bounty hunter). Heroes can also trigger their re-spawn timers when certain galactic-mode special abilities are used (for example, Boba Fett de-spawns when you use him to eliminate a Rebel hero). The hero re-spawn timer is long enough to be a pretty meaningful penalty for losing them, but not long enough to prevent you from enjoying the use of the heroes. Because of this, it is strategically beneficial to, for example, use Boba Fett to eliminate a Rebel hero, or use a raid to eliminate an Imperial hero before a major battle to deprive the other side of their use. The exceptions are the “leader” heroes – Mon Mothma and the Emperor. If the “kill enemy leader” win condition is turned on, defeating those heroes will end the game. (4)Can both "move," "attack-move," and "attack" commands be queued as waypoints, rather than just "move" commands? It'd be nice to tell a bomber squad to take out the hardpoints on a ship in a particular order or tell a group of units to sweep for enemies along a given route, instead of having to wait and issue each command individually after the last is completed. Currently there is no order queuing in the game other than movement waypoints, but we will certainly put it down as something to consider for the future. (5)How do you selectively split your fleet for an initial invasion fleet and a follow-up second fleet? There’s no way to queue up fleets for an attack, but you can use the normal way the game engine works to achieve the same effect. I am assuming you already know how to arrange ships within fleets by zooming into planets and dragging ships around. All galactic progress stops while a tactical battle is taking place; so using this fact you can send one fleet to your target, wait a few seconds, and then send the next one to the same target. Be sure your pause is long enough; if you don’t wait long enough between fleet dragging the game will automatically combine the fleets at the target destination. So, when the first fleet arrives, you have your battle, and the second fleet is paused on the route to the target. Even if you lose the first battle or retreat, the second fleet is unaffected and will arrive as soon as the first tactical battle ends. Generally you will want to split space and land forces anyway unless you are absolutely sure of the enemy space defenses, since ground unit transports are easy and obvious targets. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take care guys!

Thanks for all the help guys! Your votes really mean a great deal to us, and it shows that you guys really care and the demo made a positive impact on a lot of people. I'm normally not a big fan of press sponsored polls, I do like the community ones though, I just wanted to make sure EAW got a fair shake since I knew the boys EA would be pulling out the guns. Thanks again for your help and only two more weeks until the game comes out! wOOt!
