  1. What I've done was export the picture, redo it (doing it all in the original palettes) and then return it. That is why it's totally wierd... When that didn't work, I kept a backup of the DLL file and saved the original picture and then imported it back into the altered DLL file. Even then it didn't work. It worked only when I restored the whole file. Rebellion DLL files act WEIRED!
  2. You're all correct about TGGMW. It is a true American product because of some crazy tradition where the two good guys must ride off into the sunset after having killed 30+ evil gunman in a fair fight on an open field with no cover... Eventually, the romantic and modern Hollywood stepped in and one of the good guys was replaced by a woman, there is a car instead of horses and Colt .45 is now replaced by an Uzi. When you draw the bottom line, everything's changed EXCEPT for the bad guys. In sheer contrast, there are many non-American (and even a few American) movies that portrait a life of some hero or historical personality form the earliest beginings to it's death. That is more of a balanced ending, because the hero eventually DIES (as opposed to riding off into the sunset). So, because of TGGMW: you can't just end a movie with two people riding off into the sunset and the commentator say: "...and so they lived happily ever after, until they divorced. She got most of his money, but died of an unknown kiddney infection. He, realizing the unimportance of his life, slided to despairation and gave himself to drinking. THE END."
  3. Dude21 has a point about secrecy, unfortunatly, his facts do not apply in this case: PALPATINE ALLOWED THE REBELS TO LEARN THE LOCATION OF THE SHIELD GENERATOR. Endor was a trap. A trap that was supposed to destroy the Rebellion once and for all. And the fact remains that GL made the most important ambush in history of the Galactic Empire set by a token force of badly aiming stormtroopers. By the way, I've seen just one AT-AT on the ground (it even wasn't in combat) - one ISD carries 20, which means there were AT LEAST 500 AT-ATs in the system during the battle. The Imperials just didn't use them. Not too mention over 30 000 Stormtroopers on the DS and the fleet. It may be just me, but I don't think Han Solo, his 30 comrades and a bunch of hairy two-feet beasts slaughtered 20 000 stormtroopers down there... The forces WERE IN THE SYSTEM. Lucas just didn't want to use them because the ending had to be a happy one...
  4. Now, that's not entirely fair. I'm perfectly sure that several hundred Rebel X-wing fighters are perfectly capable of blasting the shit out of ~24'000 Imperial Star Destroyers, even if it would take them 6000+ years. Aside my sarcastic remarks, I think the Rebels could have destroyed the massive fleet following the collapse of the Empire's command structure at Endor. Still, I doubt it would have been as easy or simple as the post-ROTJ books state. On Coruscant in just FIVE YEARS?! Yeah. Sure. Why don't we test this in Rebellion? Allow your opponent to build 24 thousand ISDs and THEN TRY to take Coruscant away from him...
  5. I am glad to see the vote is proceeding well. I am particulary pleased that the votes are equally split between answers. It is interesting to note that most people consider the cause to be WEAKNESS of the Empire, rather then STRENGTH of the Rebels.
  6. Ouch! With 80+ new pictures and 40+ sounds, all characters and ships converted, all 3d models done, etc, etc: THAT'S GONNA HURT!
  7. Take in your voting ballots and tell us what YOU think!
  8. OK. I'm getting really PISSED OFF! I practicly moded the entire game and tested it X times and everything went OK. Once I started to play around the DLL files, the game started crashing constantly after any battle ends. I've read that using same Special forces and fighters on BOTH sides can do this, but I've tried removing that and it still doesn't work. The thing that irritates me is that it doesn't seem to matter what ENTERS the battle, as the game crashes regarthless. Because of it, I can't really pinpoint what is causing the damn crashes. If anyone has any idea how to prevent this (or as to what might cause it), speak up and share your wisdom!
  9. My master! I now realize I belong to the BEAK Imperium! Your words have spoken directly to my heart and I now see my true loyalty. Let us join our BEAK forces together... and we can smite the BEAK forces that rule this world - yes, I'm talking about Trekkies; for there are no greater BEAK-ers then them... Hmm, what does that say about us?! We're not really ANYTHING like them, are we??????!!!!!
  10. OK, I guess not... As for GL, he may be a fan of his own movies, but not to the extent that is needed to sort out details. I think it should be his duty, as the creator of this world, to sort out all details before publishing his material. That way, millions of fans won't have to break their nerves discussing minor details in forums like this...
  11. What the (BLIP) is a BEAK Imperium?! Elvis speaks truth in regards of shielding, but because the Death Star manual from West End Games mentions one hour, I've taken it as a focus point. We could argue about this for ages as there are arguments for both sides, but in the end it all comes down to LucasFilms sloppiness in designing the films and not really underlining them with any real technical data or info. Sad, really.
  12. Death Star II was 160 km in size. But I think it doesn't matter how large the target ship is, because: 1 DS shot can destroy a planet of cca 12756 km (Earth) while rechargeing for 1 day. Since the number is for our planet, I guess the blast can take away a planet twice that size to be sure. Now, if we divide that avg. number by 24 (number of hours a day), you would get a figure that would say that a DS can, once every hour, destroy a starship of up to 531,5 km (that's twice it's own size). That would essentially mean that the superlaser would be enough recharged to fire at a classical capital (cca 2 km) starship PRACTICLY LESS THEN EVERY MINUTE! However, that's not realistic! I think the recharge rate has nothing to do with target size, but power requirments. Think this, a simple blaster bolt requires a certain amount of energy, regarthless of wheater that same blast destroys a starship or simply damages it. In addition, I think a ONE HOUR rate is realistic, as the bloody station has to COOL DOWN from fireing. The entire station is basicly build around the superlaser and the amount of heating and radiation that thing produces would be big enough to MELT DOWN the bloody thing after four one-minute firings. (the thing costs billions and it MELTS DOWN?) That would be a bit realistic ending to the battle - the Rebels providing the Imps so many targets to shoot at that the station overheates and melts into Endors orbit...
  13. I don't know much about urban legends, but as far as bad endings are concerned, their is a WORLD of difference between the ending being NOT GOOD and being BAD. Let me clarify. If the movie/game/etc. is action, war or something that involves shooting and danger, there are usually GOOD GUYS and BAD GUYS. If the bad guys win, it's obviously a bad ending. If an ending is NOT GOOD, it's a third option - the ending isn't happy, but there are no bad guys in the movie to make it THEIR victory. For example, I would put "Das Boot" in this category. If you've seen it, you'd know what I mean. Another example would be "Godfather 3", which ends really sad, but all the bad guys are already dead by then, so who the hell wins?! Try putting that in a category! So, in conclussion, what I'm trying to state is the plain and very obvious fact that there are two kinds of un-happy endings. Personally, apart from the example I've noted in an earlier post, I've never seen a Bad-Guy-Victory type ending; but I've seen a few examples of the Un-happy type ending. But, in concession to SOCL (what's that short for anyway), I agree that Star Wars is just that type of a movie where ultimatly the good guys have to win. That is why I'm really looking forward to Ep. 3. It's supposed to be really DARK...
  14. Yes, I agree - you can't go against the "Good guy" rule. I once remember watching a Hungarian movie which ended rather puzzling. It was a western and their was this Sheriff and a mercenary fighting a bad-guy outlaw. I was shocked ( to say the least) to see that the movie ended with the bad-guy winning. In the final scene, the mercenary was killed in a bar fight and the outlaw escaped the sheriff and dumped him into a frozen lake where he drowned (or frozen, whatever) and the ending credits rolled up. I was completly . So, in summary, the Good guys always win (unless the movie is Hungarian). As for Lando in the original script, the Millenium Falcon was supposed to blow up while exiting the Death Star - hence Han Solo's: "Bad feeling... like I'm not going to see her again...". Well, it's a bit , to know your rooting for the guys that will evenutally LOSE... Oh, well: what the heck: GO PALPY! GO SAURON! WE LOVE YOU!!!!
  15. I forgot to add that the 1-hour recharge is for ships; blasting entire planets take more energy - the recharge is done once in a day. Guess that is why the first DS didn't blast Yavin planet and then the moon, but instead bothered to go AROUND the planet to fire.
  16. It was a bit of deduction on my part. All technical manuals state that the Death Star superlaser charges up and fires every one hour. The movie shows two ships being blasted by the DS (there could have been more, but that's open for speculation). That would mean two hours. Take into account that the Death Star didn't fire as soon as the battle begun (add cca 15 minutes) and it was destroyed before the entire battle was over (another 15). All in all, that would put two and a half hours at the least.
  17. Personally, I think they suck! Maybe I'm just a sore loser (an Imp, of course), but I think it this way: the Empire had a collossal fleet which had MONTHS to prepare for the ambush and gathered a great fleet (cca 24 ISDs against Rebel 4-6 Mon Cals). The Empire had a legion (I think it would be 10'000 troops+) of their most elite ground units to protect one small, heavily foritified installation - yet they were beaten by two dozen rebels and a tribe of furry two-feet rags. What happened on the Death Star is entirely unrealistic, but I'll agree that Vader COULD have thrown old Palpy down the tube (that doesn't mean I ACKNOWLEDGE it). What do you think?
  18. I think Lucas sees "Balance" as peace - it's true that one side wins over other... if there is a battle... If there is peace, their can be no winners. However, Lucas probbably wasn't refering to the post-RotJ events as the novels and comics show anything BUT peace in the future. So, at the end - when you draw the line - balance is just what it is: BALANCE.
  19. Ha! His ability to moderate is insignificant next to the power of the force. Gee, I hope good, old Palpy will finally get to wack someone in Ep. 3. I think, it would be a shame to see the Emperor being the only Jedi-capable guy in the entire galaxy who hasn't killed anyone (well, it WOULD at least be very ironic, as he ordered extermination of millions... ) Note: I think I'm losing my konkers. I'm using far too many twisted icons in my posts; guess I have no other emotion... LOL!
  20. Tóuche! Again, the explanation reveals to be far simplier then the complicated problem had it seem. But, seriously, the number of good-vs-evil Jedi seems much more even then in the times of the Old Republic... which kind-of reminds me of destructive construction - destroy to build... that sort of thing. If this is true, then we might be looking at a Jedi massacre in Episode III... Something I wouldn't mind at all...
  21. Nice point. However, I think that Lucas didn't quite see it that way. Sadly, our little civilization has no respect for pure evil and, unforunately, our puny minds are not yet ready to fully embrace the greatness of Palpatine and his teachings... And no, I'm not sick; I really think so. I belive Episode III will completly unvail the subject, as it will unvail a lot of other things...
  22. Reading through the forums, I've got a distinct impression that many people think that the whole Prequel trilogy "Balance to the Force" thing is wrong, as it was Luke who brings balance to the force. I think this is not true, as "little Ani" did indeed bring balance to the force by sending the Emperor for a flight in RotJ. The thing as I see it is that the force was "off-balance" by the appearance of Palpatine and his rise to power, one which Ani will end up supporting. However, Vader eventually turned against his master, therby putting the "force on-track" (or off-track, if you - like me - think that the dark side is the right side to be on ). What do you think?
  23. Personally, I think LucasFilms was very carless about Return of the Jedi. They didn't really think a lot about fleet sizes - mearly threw in a couple of models to make it seem like a fleet; and there you go. You do know there are rumors of a boot appearing in the Rebel fleet (never found it, through). As for RotJ is concerned, the Imperial ranking blop proves everything (every Imp had the same rank in the movie - that of captain; which means a LOT of captains). As for Interdictors, they were intoduced by Timothy Zahn (some 10 years after RotJ came out). However, Admiral Piett mentions "keeping them from escaping", so I presume the mere presance of the fleet was enough to block escape to hyperspace. As for fleet size, it gives completly the wrong impression. The Empire has 25'000 ISDs. It is silly, at the least, to seem like the Emperor thought just 24 will be enough to squash the Rebellion. The size makes it seem like the Empire doesn't have that much of a fleet - and that's wrong. As for the Rebellion's troop transports... well, we all know the Rebels don't have much of industrial capacity to have a big fleet... so they use what they have...
  24. Yes, I see your point. Actually, I've already tried puting in something instead of old, annoying 3PO. Unfortunatly, for some reason, the change corrupted the game and I had a BIG, green-blue box where the droid used to be. I think it has to have the same palette, size and the whole works to work. Btw, some time later, I tried doing another thing in the strategical view. I've tried to take out the Nebulon-B frigate and replace it with a different shape. The game did the VERY SAME THING! The graphics was corrupted and everything. The thing is that I've tried exporting the old pic and then edited in before returning it. It shouldn't have acted that way. Well, guess I have to keep trying. I, too, was just kidding about the ST comments. Happily, I have no bad experiances with emoticons...
