TIE fighters make up the bulk of all the Imperial starfighter corps. The small craft has no life support mechanism, shield generators, or hyperdrive making them cheap to produce in large numbers. Armaments are restricted to two laser cannons mounted below the pilot's control pod. -

The TIE defender marks a departure from the normal line of Imperial fighter design. It is one of the few production fighters to be equipped with both a shield generator and hyperdrive system. The Defender mounts considerable firepower in the form of automatic laser cannons which allow it to engage multiple enemies at once. Efficient maneuvering thrusters are housed in the three odd shaped solar panels which give the Defender maneuverability almost on the level of the TIE Interceptor and the Alliance's A-wing. In all, the Defender is a dangerous adversary to all Alliance fighters. -

The Droid TIE is a fully automated drone that incorporates split wing solar panels and mounts two laser cannons. A large engine system has also been added making the Droid TIE faster and more manueverable than the New Republic A-wing. However, it still lacks shield generator & hyperdrive systems found on most New Republic starfighters. -
