I believe it is the Dusty Spiral Galaxy (NASA picture) tweaked by Tex (excellent work ). You can get the original at http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/galaxy_collection/pr1999025a/. If I remember correctly, all (or most of) NASA pictures are in the public domain.

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Moribundus replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
I'm sorry if it looked that way. Nobody wants you to fail. I was simply trying to point you in the direction I consider the best, that was all. Happy coding -
Hi I decided to try a bit more complex resource system for Terra (more like in Anacreon), but I'm not sure how it will turn out. In Rebellion you have to keep track only of three values, which is something even a trained chimpansee (or primitive fuzzy logic ) is capable of. Btw. how many Rebellion2 projects are there? Three? Anyone else?

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Moribundus replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
OpenGL is actually easier to pick up than DirectX, since you don't have to bother with buffer objects if you don't want to (you can basically work in immediate mode, which was removed from DX a long time ago) I beg a pardon, but are you saying that you want to write your own software renderer? One of the principles of software engineering is "to reuse", which basically means that you shouldn't do anything outside of your project's scope and instead try to find a way to benefit from already written code. Writing a software renderer is surely fun, but it doesn't 'keep it simple'. Also how do you want to make a good AI, if your CPU will be spending most of it's time rendering graphics? This is the main reason for the neverending demand for hardware graphics (and soon physics ) accelerators. But if you really want to do this, check out MesaGL, a software implementation of the OpenGL library, so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel more than necessary. M$ guarantees neither forward, nor backward compatibility. It also doesn't try to achieve cross platform compatibility (sorry, but XBox <-> PC is a joke, not cross platform). But as Nordwind said, M$ does not force you to use it's products, there are other viable options. -
There's this guide on wiki, check it out. http://www.swrebellion.com/wiki/Rebellion:Windows_Vista

Rebellion 2008: Remake of a new Source Engine.
Moribundus replied to Slocket's topic in Rebellion Editing
I really recommend going open source and using SDL/OpenGL for 2D/3D graphics and OpenAL/SDL for sound/input. Opening source is not necessary, but has certain advantages, like being able to embed other OS libraries and change them according to your needs (although many libraries are released under MIT-like licence, LUA for example). Also making the game portable will make lots of Linux and Mac users happy I can also recommend LUA especially if you want to embed/extend it. It's very small, so making minor changes is very easy (eg. Python is the exact opposite). And if you're comfortable with Makefiles and gcc compiler (or for example Eclipse IDE), you can ditch all the visual nonsense and use MingW (gcc ported to Windows). Also if you would want to help me with Terra (basically an engine for Rebellion2 disguised as stand alone game), you're welcome It's fully scriptable 3D engine, which uses all the above mentioned stuff (surprise, surprise). I should have a working demo ready in a month or two, otherwise I won't pass one course , so that should motivate me enough I guess. If there's anything else I can help you with, just ask. Good luck. Edit: For the planet artwork you can use NASA's textures of Earth (blue marble: next generation) and recolor it in photoshop/gimp or otherwise tweak it (clone stamp perhaps?). -
Yes. One B5 fan here

Most of indie or open source games are also available for Mac. What kind of games do you have in mind?

Wow, looks nice. I can't help you with texturing, but you don't have to worry about length (one particular dimension) of the model yet, just make sure it's proportions are correct. You can scale the model easily when it's finished.

In U.S. 2008 Election topic, when I click on the "view results" link, a new page loads and displays following warnings at the top (but otherwise sees to be ok) [phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /viewtopic.php on line 161: Undefined index: forum_id [phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /viewtopic.php on line 165: Undefined index: forum_id Happy bug hunting!

Well the CGI looks nice, but I´ve already seen much better animations. Even ingame graphics look much better nowadays. When I compare the pics and the (old) official trailer with this fan-project I have to say that there´s not that much difference. Just think of that GL employs at least a whole studio to create the animation series, while a small bunch of people can create something nearly similar in there sparetime. But the sound makes the music, so I´ll wait untill I see it and hope that the stories will be exciting ... and warsy enough. WOW! Really impressive. You're right. And according to the wookiepedia (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ahsoka_Tano), the other one is Anakin I'd never recognize him, he looks...weird.

The little red one (Shaak Ti) looks really cute It reminds me of Antz somehow (perhaps it's the color). This cartoonish style is quite nice, I like it much better than the anime one (the previous cartoon, unless I missed something).

Well, I personally haven't read any of the SW novels, since it's quite hard to get them in our country (well almost all of the extra stuff, except for games), so I basically don't have anything to say on the more elaborate SW topics Just to clarify my vote.

Why don't you exile him to make sure he has as little influence as possible? That's what ancient greeks did after all If that makes you feel better, our first president (of our 'current' republic) was in the office for three consecutive terms (max is two). The point was that after his first term, he resigned, the country was broken up and he was elected again as a president of a brand new country. And he's still a national hero (uh).

Hmm, it seems there are some part of the swrebellion.com web that still link to the old forums. One such is the recent forum topics section on the main page. I'll add other obsolete links if I stumble upon them. Edit: The 'Login/User info' section on the title page also seems to link to the old forums.

This sounds quite undemocratic to me. Family member of a former president is a citizen as anyone else and thus should treated as such. By disallowing him candidacy, you're basically limiting his rights and treating him differently based on his family background (which is one of the few things in life he couldn't choose). Although I agree that having two dynasties for such a long time at least stinks, 'blaming' the candidates seems like a wrong fix (and for the wrong problem).

I know, who's going to win, Mike Huckabee. He's got Chuck Norris backing him up http://hinca.net/blog/2008/01/and-new-us-president-is.html He isn't serious, is he?

I think you're taking a wrong approach, Rob. Nationalism isn't studied in order to find the right and only theory, but in order to better understand human society, it's dynamic nature and evolution. So the modernist theory simply cannot fit the ancient Rome and the primordialist theory cannot fit your nation. Btw. I aways tend to think of term nation as of the invention of the western world, probably due to histrical and political context (eg. creation of nation-states after the French Revolution). It seems kinda weird to me to define african or asian "nations" based on western philosophy and western criteria. Hehe, effects of globalization might be a nice topic for a discussion in a class like yours

Haha, no, that was mainly work of the miraculous Babel fish Atlough I learned german at grammar school, I forgot almost everything, so without a dictionary I can't put together a single correct sentence Yeah, snow is rare here too, and even if we have some few days a year, it's not enough to make a simple snowman, not to mention a buffalo or elephant. Perhaps they had some training tours to the Alps. However it must be very depressing to watch all those sculptures melt away after the competition

About post counts. I believe it's not the most popular feature nowadays (it used to encourage spammers ]:->). Many bulletin board systems do not even have that feature anymore, but since phpBB was the one of the first who came with this I guess it will be still there somewhere waiting to be turned on by Evaders I would probably try to check out Eagle's post directly in the database to see what characters did he actually use. It's possible he didn't type ASCII (american) apostrophe, but a german one and if the posts in the database weren't specially treated during the upgrade (eg. converted from one encoding to another), funky characters might appear. One would expect the forum migration software to do that automatically though. And fonts seems to be really fixed now It reverted to browser defaults before I believe and that was a bit more readable for me (on my computer verdana is too tiny and slim and seems to get anti-aliased away on a dark backgroun). But it still seems to be somehow better than before

I know about Go and I don't play it, although similar game called "Jews" (I didn't invent the name) was very popular on high school. We were told in AI class, that while champions of Othello (Reversi) refuse to play with a computer, because it is too good, champions of Go refuse to play with computer simply because it's too dumb

The catch is in that "everybody will like it" part. You have to be really good in order to receive anything. I checked the original article at badische-zeitung.de and it seems that the competition was a bit tricky. They had to create a sculpture from an ice cube in a given time. They proved that they can do that with great skill and unlike the others dared to create something more, something with a symbolic meaning (and imho quite good looking too). The point is that creating something abstract doesn't mean one is not able to create something photorealistic. Look at Pablo Picasso for example do you think he couldn't draw a simple portrait?

So I suppose Banksy is an artist, too, yay If everyone painted/sculpted elephants/horses/etc. it would get boring pretty fast. Besides cute animal heads and human figurines limit the artist in what he can express with his art. Btw. bridge isn't just that thing connecting opposite sides of a river, but it's also a symbol of connection between two (possibly different) people and cultures. This might be what this guy had in mind.

Please this time elect someone sane, who doesn't try to create another cold war (or any other war). USA is going to build military base in our country, Russia has already cancelled it's disarming treaties and threatens to aim it's missiles at us. So I'm slowly considering packing my things and getting the hell out of here. I don't know much about you presidental candidates for this elections, but I sincerely hope your pick will be better than the last one.
