  1. Sir Robin bravely ran away from that problem...
  2. For those of you who know me, I'm a veteran player who's played Rebellion in one way or another within a few months of the game's release. I guess that gives you an idea as to my age, hehehe. I'm married and have a little one, love to sing harmony in a barbershop quartet, and when it comes to SWR, I'm willing to play (and stream) solo and multiplayer as a way to showcase the game and various strategies.
  3. Maybe other IPs as ideas for Rebellion modding (Wing Commander and Star Trek are more obvious ones, though I wonder if something like Star Fox/ Mario Bros/ Final Fantasy would work as well)
  4. Just a thought: Has anyone tried emailing or calling Customer Service about this? I remember having my computer wreck a Wing Commander: Kilrathi Saga CD. I emailed Customer Service, and the representative asked me to return the damaged cd. I expected only the damaged CD (Disc 1, which includes Wing I, II, and the installation info for III), but I recieved a new copy of all five discs. I admit this may be a bit late in the going to expect fresh copies of Rebellion from Customer Service, but it never hurts to ask.
  5. Rivalries...part of the heart of sports, hahahahaha!! Baseball: Yankees - Red Sox Yankees - Mets Mets - Braves Mets - Phillies Mets - Expos (I haven't heard much about this one since the Expos became the Nationals) White Sox - Cubs White Sox - Tigers US Football: Giants - Cowboys Giants - Eagles Giants - Bears Giants - 49ers Giants - Packers Jets - Patriots Jets - Colts Patriots - Colts Ice Hockey: Rangers - Devils Rangers - Islanders Basketball: Bulls - Pistons Spurs - Suns Knicks - Bulls Knicks - Celtics Lakers - Celtics College Sports: Ohio State - Michigan Alabama - Arkansas Notre Dame - Michigan West Virginia - Pittsburgh Oklahoma - Texas Kansas - Kansas State Oklahoma - Oklahoma State Purdue - Indiana Michigan - Michigan State Louisville - Kentucky Army - Navy USC - UCLA USC - California UCLA - California Florida - Georgia LSU - Auburn North Carolina - Duke Miami - Boston College Miami - Florida State Miami - Florida Florida - Florida State Iowa - Iowa State Ok, that's all I can think of for now. Feel free to mention other rivalries
  6. Allow me to amend that...Like a candidate at a job interview, the candidate is making selling political service. Again, money helps, but the more effective sale of ability would still win, even if the field involves perfect balance competing over a vacancy.
  7. My big two are Baseball and football. Got really into baseball in the late '90s, and into football through watching Penn State while at college. Basketball and hockey are sports for me to watch once in awile, and no, Rob, I'm not lying about basketball just so I can scream "FIRE ISIAH!!!" at the television.
  8. Well, it's almost 1:30 AM on the East Coast of the United States, and I thought a new thread on sports (might lead to a forum on sports, hint hint) would be in order. This first thread goes out to my home team, the NY Giants, for their victory over the New England Patriots earlier tonight in Superbowl XLII, and to the Patriots fans, your team played an excellent game; take nothing away from what you've done this season. Out of all the Superbowl games, this can be considered one of the great contests. Both teams were playing at the top of their game, and both teams played with heart uncharacteristically above and beyond the high bar they set throughout the season.
  9. Ok...this is going to task my memory from how long ago it's been since I last played some of these games, but: The head creature from Super C Andross - Star Fox now, I never played either version of the original Punch-Out!!, but, of course, Mike Tyson They never mention the head character, but Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure Moving on to Computer games: ok, I give up on this head boss - Alien Syndrome (I know the C64 has a version, I played the Amiga 500 one) Devlin - Cyberia (finding out you have a mini-nuke implanted in your head...yeah, it'd give you a slight wish to take this guy out) Prince Thrakhath - Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger (WC II: Vengeance of the Kilrathi was good, but the Angel Death scene and the lost cutscene explaining Hobbes' role made this version legendary)
  10. Corran Horn? Haven't seen you in forever...how's it going?
  11. I think it would be interesting if we hosted our own WoW for XVT...that would be fun...I'd be able to see if I can fly the old ships again: |-o-| (--o-o--) {-o-} _\|/_ o-0-o >-o-< 8-0-8 <:= or, then again, you guys will just detonate me from the sky.
  12. Though my ideals tend to be more conservative, I like the ideas expressed with how New York State sets their firearm laws. I would be able to get a firearm without too much trouble, but I'll first get my Sportsman's license, so I may actually transport one when I decide to purchase one. Full Carry permits are far more restrictive. (I know the local laws vary, but I'll stick to the strictist laws, which will pass muster throughout the state) As a hunter, my gun must be trigger or action locked, and it must be unloaded and locked in a hard gun case. This goes whether you are using pistols, rifles, or shotguns. If I remember correctly, the ammunition must also be separate from the gun. Go through the background checks and the waiting period, and that only allows you to load and use the gun in the woods. For a Full Carry permit, the margin for blemishes on your record is a lot smaller, plus you'll need to have a very good reason for needing a gun on you. Of course, business owners involving large amounts of cash, jewelry, or anywhere else where large amounts of wealth can be highly concentrated have a shot at this, as well as retired Police Officers, as most of them will be able to retain their Full Carry permits from their time on the force. Now, guys, I'm a bit tired, just tell me if what little I remember about the law is correct, or if I'm off base. Now, as far as self-defense goes, as long as the break-in doesn't leave the perp in your room, you'll have a chance to load a gun, grab a bat,or anything other deadly weapon nearby if retreat is impossible.
  13. Here's the situation...in a normal game, Luke starts off with less Espionage, but more Combat in relation to Palpatine. If you're fortunate enough to not get captured early on, use it to become a Jedi Master before leaving for Dagobah...good thing is that Luke becomes a wrecking machine in Espionage/ Combat missions. However, the best idea is to use Luke according to what you see in the Core Sectors closest to Yavin. If most Imperial systems are there, sab them to death with Han, Chewie, Wedge, and anyone else you can spare, thile using Leia and Dodonna for Diplomacy. If you have no Imperial presence, use Luke for Diplomacy and later Recruitment. Now, I understand that this is an unedited game, but it's a good discipline to learn, especially when you use RebEd to make a stronger Imperial (Or Rebel if you like Empire) computer opponent. By the way, for those who remember me, I'm glad to be back...I've had a real bad year...loss of relatives, and a friendship or two that have had a major falling out, and I'm trying to fix those while doing college work, two jobs, and all my hobbies, so I had to put Rebellion on the back burner.
  14. The teacher's point may have been to see how many students would blindly follow the lesson, regardless of the accuracy. Disciplinary action, if it was actually enforced, would lead to the teacher's dismissal. Now, as far as blindly following the teacger goes, here are some reasons students would do this: Students live in a culture of Disciplinarianism (not sure if the word exists, but I think the implication is immediately apparent) and are therefore afraid to contradict the higher authority of the teacher. The students are being introduced to the facts in question The students are apathetic. There are probably more reasons, but they escape me at this time.
  15. Death by a form of Murphy's Law...nice
  16. Did you go here?
  17. I'm trying to remember...who did you usually play on the Zone?
  18. maybe...it's an old song about life as a coal miner, but this can be applied to many heavy industries from over a century ago. employees were paid little, and the currency, could only be redeemed by using the money to pay for housing, food, and supplies, all sources of which were controlled by the company. Since the prices were high enough to drive people into debt, the company allowed repayment through more work, which pretty much meant the endless cycle of being forced to work there for life. Remember...almost all of us who play know about some form of government or corporate support in old age...none of that existed then.
  19. ok...gotcha
  20. You load 16 Tons, and what do ya get? Another day older and 'a deeper in debt St. Peter, don't ya call me, cause I can't go I owe my soul to the Company Store
  21. all I can say...just don't call us late for dinner
  22. ...don't forget to welcome the new generation of guys on this board, for some of them are fellow old-timers (such as I, playing this game since the second half of '98 )
  23. Rob, you really sound like me...One alternative I'm contemplating: When I get my Bachelor's in Accounting, I am also getting another associates in Criminal Justice and joining the NYPD...I'll gain my experience thorough processing the tax returns of all the guys in my precinct. Once there, I can start a small practice after my time on duty, which will likely be downstairs in my home in Freeport. I doubt my parents would object to my having an accounting practice in the house...after all, I might be able to use the practice to pay the bills for the house and then some.
  24. Embrace of Pain: This Texas Hold-em hand. Ex. All players call the raise. Flop: Qs 10s Js 1 Has 3 Queens, 4 has 3 Jacks, 3 Has Nut Flush (Best Flush), 4 has King high Straight Flush (and the only way he could lose is by folding, as he has the best hand) 2 Checks, as does 3. 4 bets $1,000,000, which is called by all players. Turn: Jh. 3 now has a Full House (Jacks full of Queens), 4 has 4 Jacks. 3 and 2 don't change. 2, 3, and 4 check. 1 bets $750,000. 2 calls. 3 Raises all-in and is immediately raised all-in by 4. 1 calls, as does 2. 2 Happpens to be the chip leader, while 4 is 2nd in chips.
